Thanks Xxed. I see what you mean now and I agree. Especially with what you say about white men being in the position to be able to change this yet effectively, they are not being forced to own the problem.

Having read that Slate article as well it seems the marketing agency already has form for racial inequality.

I think it's fucking stupid and a nasty narrow minded parody not worth publicising.

Even if I think the original video makes a lot of fuss about not a lot. (But I don't think every bloke who says hi, is intruding into my personal space and ruining my life. I'm the mad woman who talks to strangers)

YonicScrewdriver · 31/10/2014 07:50

Elephants, the blokes aren't just saying "hi" in the video.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 31/10/2014 10:39

No mostly the subtitles said Damn, which made no sense whatsoever.
Perhaps it does if your American.

But my hearings shit and my heads in the clouds so I would have register 90 % of what she recorded and would have assumed the other 10% was aimed at some one else.

It usually is, I've done a lot of unnecessary smiling at blokes only to realise they are looking at someone else.

YonicScrewdriver · 31/10/2014 11:35

Hi Elephants, in the context of the looks she got as well, I took Damn as shorthand for "damn, she's hot"

SevenZarkSeven · 31/10/2014 12:33

Haven't had a chance to watch the video but the race thing is weird as I'm sure if I did watch it I would recognise the behavior from my own life and that is done by MEN. I am sure that the vast majority of Other women would too.

I would imagine that the people who are even noticing race above the fact that it is all men, are people who have not been subjected to this behavior.

Same as women watching this won't say Oh look American men are awful, because they know it's same old (to a greater or lesser extent) all over the world. They will recognise this as standard male behavior that they have been subjected to.

SevenZarkSeven · 31/10/2014 12:37

I mean clearly they shouldn't have edited it why would you even do that.
But anyone who thinks this isn't behaviour carried out by all sorts of men all overthe place is either going around with their eyes shut, or is a man.

Scarletohello · 04/11/2014 19:11

This is a good article today about all the horrid victim blaming that has gone on since the video was shown.

Yes thank you for posting it.

I broke the golden rule and read below the line for a bit and was extremely pleasantly surprised! The mods do seem to have gone to town on it though so presumably the comments that would have boosted my blood pressure were even worse than normal...!
