Nah, I can probably do better, so I'm really just going for the experience and interview practice. Just a shame I have to drive 2 hours each way for it!!!

PumpkinGordino · 21/10/2014 18:46

thanks to terrariamum's post on the hair thread, i stumbled across this which is relevant to the chat earlier about women in art:

the-toast.net/2014/10/20/women-trying-sleep-unsuccessfully-western-art-history/

UptoapointLordCopper · 21/10/2014 19:11

That's so funny pumpkin. "Staring counts as touching, don’t touch someone who is sleeping, go look at something awake". Grin And all the "Why would you even do that". Makes me laugh. I say that quite a lot these days.

Excellent Pumpkin Grin

TerrariaMum · 21/10/2014 21:01

Mallory has a whole series of those. Women ignoring men, women in spectacular hats, etc. I think you can just search the site.

rosabud · 21/10/2014 21:21

Popped into to express anger at the Pistorius thing. 5 years and all the focus on how it will affect his career. A woman has lost her life but a man's career is the important thing that is lost here.

I know this is different but I was in a lesson today where 12 year olds had to decide who in Macbeth was responsible for Duncan's murder - Macbeth, Lady Macbeth or the witches. Everyone blamed Lady Macbeth. When I went round to each child and pointed out that Macbeth is the one who sticks the knife in and he is an adult, a leader of men, a violent soldier, they just replied that his wife was evil for persuading him to do it and being horrible to him. I know that's light hearted and 12 year olds - but, honestly, I thought to myself - why does everyone always have sympathy for the violent man?

PuffinsAreFicticious · 21/10/2014 21:30

I think the most shocking thing about the Reeva Steenkamp case on here is the number of women who don't want to see her murder as DV or even akin to it. Granted, one of the people who's saying it is someone who's opinion isn't worth the effort she takes typing it, but there are people agreeing with her stupidity.

How much more domestically violent can you get than killing your girlfriend?

Sabrinnnnnnnna · 21/10/2014 21:33

It's a question I've been asking myself all week, Rosa.

Pistorius - all the talk seems to be when he can next compete, and will he be to old.

Ched Evans - of course he was "non-violent" Hmm Hmm but while he's talking about his next contract, how innocent he is and being photographed smiling and shopping - while his victim is in hiding and has been outed yet again. And it's all the feminists fault.

John Grisham - let's stick up for my 'rich white old men" friends about online child abuse- because he wasn't looking at 10 yr old boys.

Women and girls really are disposable in society.

Sabrinnnnnnnna · 21/10/2014 21:36

There is never any shortage of women willing to stick up for violent men - you know, the ones who have actually committed the crimes. But when anyone tries to speak out for the victims (who are often no longer around to give their version) - we're dismissed as feminists and man haters. It's unreal.

Is NoMary who I think she is?

Speaking of the rapist/murderer sports personalities. What do you think the situation will be for female journalists or even women who work for the clubs if they say they don't feel comfortable dealing with them? Or especially being alone with them?

PuffinsAreFicticious · 21/10/2014 22:09

Yes, I think she is. Posting style and need to be seen as handmaiden of the year are giveaways.

Sabrinnnnnnnna · 21/10/2014 22:11

Charlie Webster (not quite sure who she is - but involved with Sheffield Utd and Sky Sports) has spoken out against him being re-signed- and is....wait for it..... being abused for her stance. What a surprise.

PumpkinGordino · 21/10/2014 22:15

if the same, completely ignoring works a treat - increasingly attention-seeking posts as they are driven mad until gives up

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 21/10/2014 22:18

I never work out name changes

This Ched Evans thing is really getting me down now. Normally sensible people not seeing it...

FuckOffFerret · 21/10/2014 22:21

That's interesting Sabrinna, found a link on it www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/oct/18/charlie-webster-quit-sheffield-united-ched-evans-return

She's come out publicly about her own rape and said she will quit her position for the club if he comes back.

Ched Evans sister called her a hypocrite for trying to get a photo with Mike Tyson which I can actually agree with. Wonder if she knows about Mike Tyson's past though?

PuffinsAreFicticious · 21/10/2014 22:25

Agreed Pumpkin.

The whole Rapist Ched Evans thing is beyond shit. Really am surprised at who among my friends hasn't got it at all.

Sabrinnnnnnnna · 21/10/2014 22:33

She's actually very young - I wouldn't be surprised if she wasn't all that aware of Mike Tyson.

It's funny (well, more pithy really) that the Rapist Ched Evans's apologists are picking up on Mike Tyson's case and saying nobody objects to him. Well, I have a different recollection- I remember people protesting Mike Tyson coming to England, and so on, as he was a convicted rapist.

YonicScrewdriver · 21/10/2014 22:35

Weren't speaking events with the rapist Mike Tyson cancelled owing to protests?

OP posts:
Sabrinnnnnnnna · 21/10/2014 22:37

I believe they were, yonic, they were certainly protested. Perhaps anyone with more than 16 followers on twitter like me Wink could tweet that to the twitter twats!

UptoapointLordCopper · 22/10/2014 12:10

Random frivolous thoughts: would it be barking mad to bring your own super-duper le creuset non-stick frying pan to go on a self-catering holiday just so you can have no-stress scrambled eggs for breakfasts? And would it be doubly barking mad to bring your own kitchen knife so that chopping carrots, if you should want to, would take only seconds instead of half a day with cut fingers? So tempting ...

OK OK. So I haven't written my paper yet. Are you judging me?

Grin

It's nearly done though.

Sabrinnnnnnnna · 22/10/2014 12:24

Not barking to take something on hols that have the words stress-free attached to them! Are they really good? Do they come clean in the dishwasher after said scrambled eggs?? I need to know!
