Why are feminists so threatened by the MRA movement?

When I was at university, the Gender Equality society (of which I was a member) chose to rename itself the Feminist society, arguing that the only way equality could be achieved was by focusing on women's issues. This led some other students to set up an MRA group, which was met with some resistance from the feminists. On this very board I see commenters angrily referring to MRAs as if they are all members of an evil homogeneous group.

Isn't it possible that men and women both suffer oppression from society in different ways? That the levels of this oppression are not necessarily equal, but are still important if we are to achieve equality? I often see feminists agreeing with certain 'male issues' (e.g. media stereotypes, elevated male suicide rate), but suggesting that feminism has other priorities, and if they want to do something about these issues then they should make their own groups. Why do they get criticized when they do exactly that? Better still, wouldn't feminism be better off if it didn't alienate so many men (and women, focused on a wider range of issues, and stopped pitting the sexes against one another?

Petula, I think the republicans were actually considering rebranding without the GOP bit during the last presidential election as so few people really know what it means anymore...but then suddenly it was being used constantly and seems to be fashionable to say again? Maybe because it was being discussed? Hmm

IN republican lexicon "civil liberty" means almost exclusively the right to own the biggest fucking gun available to man.

In fact the only group GOP seem to think rights should exist for are wealthy, white middle-aged men from the South.

You left out "Christian".

My step mother is a dyed in the wool Republican. It's quite interesting to listen to her sometimes. She is British but married my American father, she draws a UK pension and has used the NHS (flying over to the uk for the privilege). And yet, the mere idea of social healthcare is anathema to her. That women might be able to access free healthcare when pregnant (her children were all born in the UK) is awful for her, along with access to birth control and abortion (despite her using both in the UK on the NHS).

It's the hypocrisy I hate in a lot of Good ol' boys Republicanism. They want guns, but not to have to pay for it when those guns kill people. They want gas guzzling cars, with cheap gas, with no consequences.

I wonder if this type of bloke regularly hold long monologues in their own heads and imagine silent women smiling at them admiringly, stunned by their amazing wit and knowledge.

So then they try to act it out but it doesn't work very well online, since women can actually think and type messages too.

And I give you MRA feminists
