The old pub now has less than 10 posts to go, so I thought I'd start a new one. The old one can be found here

This is a place for feminist pom pom waving and talking about stuff which might not need a thread for itself.

Fill your boots.

Or using my fucking argument about class inequalities being central to the whole disaster.... cheeky not dogmatic person, so she is!

Although, I think even that might be Buffy's fault. Grin

the thing i find weird about all those sorts of accusations (well, not the only thing, obviously, but the one that stands out) is the assumption that no feminist can anythign other than middle class, white, well-off. not that being any of those things is a problem obviously, but that assumption by non-feminists in itself demonstrates their own classist and racist thinking

ABlandAndDeadlyCourtesy · 04/09/2014 18:43

Poor BuffyBot. All this AND the motorcycle/demon scene to contend with.

Got to go and get the kids in. They are not going to be happy that it's nearly 7. But I can blame that on buffy, can't I? Can I?

WishesAndStars · 04/09/2014 18:55

So, to recap, blackface is fine because it shows admiration and it is funny, sex and race discrimination at work is wishful thinking by women and non-white people who are too stupid or lazy to progress at work, feminists and non-racists (Buffy particularly) are responsible for Rotherham, and the only problem which exists in society is class inequality.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, the whoooooosh noise when points whizz over their heads. Must create quite the breeze. Grin

And now I must go and flagellate, having been very unfeminine in my postings.

I like melted brains. Though they do clog the straw.

Sabrinnnnnnnna · 04/09/2014 19:28

Have a Wine Buffy. You know systemic sexism and racism is all in your pretty little head, don't you?

And yes, I'm afraid you are responsible for my brain melting. And Rotherham. Sorry. Wink Wink

Dragonlette · 04/09/2014 19:35

I'm ever so glad I've been too busy/sensible to open that thread. It sounds awful and I'm very sorry they lost your reasonableness Buffy. It's all your fault of course, everything in the world Wink

Oh Buffy I am so sorry about that thread. I'm on 1st Sept at the moment so still far behind! I was interrupted smashing the patriarchy by making Apple & Pear Crumble for the menz. It is bloody lovely mind!

But that is some false equivalence going on there that feminists/non-racists being responsible for Rotherham. Why are some so obtuse When it comes to the concept of privilege and dynamics of power? It's because they don't want to give up their power/privilege isn't it?

Having said all that it was your fault I forgot the custard this morning and we are now having tinned. Tinned I tell you! Where's my custard privilege I ask?

scallopsrgreat · 04/09/2014 20:07

Oh and thing about charities getting back to their knitting has rendered me quite speechless. Just how can these buffoons get away with saying this shit in 2014?

Seff · 04/09/2014 20:45

Thanks all for the warm welcome Brew

I caught up with that thread whilst pretending to feeding the baby to sleep, it's mind boggling Confused

Wine for everyone to ease the guilt of being at fault for everything.

scallopsrgreat · 04/09/2014 20:52

Sorry Seff! Forgot to say helloooo and welcome. Let me buy you that wine Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/09/2014 21:24

I'm watching Castle In The Air. Invention of the radar ...

kickassangel · 04/09/2014 21:48

I'm going to blame Buffy for making me late to class. Must get off mn and go to college.

OutsSelf · 04/09/2014 22:15

Right, I've gone backward over the thread trying to work out where to go bolster the troops but I can't work it out. Could someone send me there?

I am in the middle of a surreal conference in which I'm discussing Judith Butler in the breaks with you lot. It's not like the conference isn't already taxing my brain.

A pint of gin please

DoctorTwo · 04/09/2014 22:15

Feminists aren't shouting loud enough about Rotherham Thanks scallops for reminding me:-

Stuff like this boils my piss. In the late 90s/early noughties I worked in a place that was staffed with predominantly Moslem men. They knew I had daughters and warned me they should avoid certain takeaways when they started puberty. After observing some of the places they mentioned I went to the police and almost got arrested for being a racist. Over 10 years later 15 men went to prison for raping and trafficking girls and the police claimed nobody had blown the whistle. Lying cunts. People had been reporting since 1995 and had all been labelled racist, unless it was an underage girl, in which case she was billed as attention seeking. Angry

The men I worked with regarded the abusers with contempt, saying their actions "went against Allah and Islam." I moved away, but a while back I visited them and they were of the opinion that over 100 men should also be in jail alongside these rapists. I believed them.

These men knew my position on religion, that I regarded it as misogynistic control freak bullshit, yet they still treated me as an equal. Every quote from the Quran was met with a quote from Hitch and we all laughed. I do miss them even though they were incorrigibly sexist.

scallopsrgreat · 04/09/2014 22:29

It's here Outself www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2172485-To-report-friend-to-FB-for-photo-of-her-blacked-up

It's gone quiet at the minute though. The main racist antagonist has gone for the night and apologised.

PetulaGordino · 04/09/2014 22:53

So I've had a productive hour and a half. I think I'll leave it there. Like a threat

Love it!

Have finished The Late Scholar. It was quite a jigsaw puzzle type of mystery but I enjoyed it. A lot less self conscious than The Attenbury Emeralds, I thought.
