Slight derail here, but re:his girlfriend and her Dad, seriously how fucked up is that.

Even if he honestly believes that Chet isn't a rapist, which he is, why would you support a man who thinks its fine/normal to regularly cheat on your daughter??

Who asks a friend 'if I can have a go?'

I mean. . . .Really?

I get wanting to support your family/children and their choices. I've been there with a friend in an abusive relationship, you can't force them to leave till they're ready, you can't challenge too hard for fear of scaring them away and isolating them more.

So if he said I respect my daughter enough to allow her to make her own (seriously fucked up) decisions, fine.

To bloody fund the website. . . .

Gob smacked isn't the word, seriously seriously fucked up

Though goes a little way to understanding her attitudes

PuffinsAreFicticious · 17/10/2014 13:44

Women's Aid's statement on the issue

Today, I am so sad for his victim. I hope she is ok and well supported by people who love her.

Panthingies · 17/10/2014 13:48

CE indicates he is 'getting back to normal life'.....

His website also indicates he has 'served a prison sentence' - no, you are still serving it, except you are being allowed to do it in the community, under conditions which if you break you are eligible to be returned to prison.

cadno · 17/10/2014 13:58

He probably mean that he's no longer in custody.

Panthingies · 17/10/2014 14:01

highly likely but mistaken re his serving a sentence.

ResponsibleAdult · 17/10/2014 14:26

An utter disgrace. CE, SUFC, the girlfriend (where is her self respect), her father (was he not able to uncover the details of the trial)?

Utter utter disgrace. The lack of contrition is staggering, not even a sideways move to another job, but back on the pitch with the role model status and adulation. Just wrong. They should all be ashamed, but who has been hounded, who is misplaced from home, the victim. Words fail me.

Panthingies · 17/10/2014 14:28

It's not happened yet, and SUFC have made no decision. CE has been released today, and will be on licence for another 2 and a half years.

ResponsibleAdult · 17/10/2014 15:47

I think my difficulty with SUFC is they haven't issued a statement ruling it out. "We the management at SUFC confirm that we are not considering resigning CE."

No need to explain/justify even if I think they should if they want to maintain PR neutral. This is in the public domain, decisions are being scrutinised.

The GF and GF father, did they not have the same information as the rest of the general public/ did they attend the trial? I am struggling to comprehend their actions. CE was found guilty of rape and convicted for it by a judge and jury. He is currently on a suspended sentence, he hasn't completed his term.

ResponsibleAdult · 17/10/2014 15:48

Sorry, I mean on licence

Panthingies · 17/10/2014 18:18

IF I was on the management board, or an owner, I'd see the sense in following something like 'due diligence' and showing the working out of decisions. There will be a part of their fan base who can't see past his goal-scoring record, and will be mightily miffed if there were a blanket statement. I'd wish to offer CE some wriggle room re his attitude, he refuses that, and then I'd be comfortable in declaring that all avenues were exhausted. Something like that at least.
There will be a condition on his licence that states "do nothing that undermines the purpose of supervision", and that's the one that will be possibly wrangled over at a later date. SUFC will not wish to be associated, at all, with a potential recalled prisoner. He isn't someone who makes 'good decisions' after all.

TessOfTheFurbyvilles · 17/10/2014 19:35

CE will be making a "personal and profound" video statement next week.

I suspect it's too much of a stretch to think he may admit his guilt.

Panthingies · 17/10/2014 20:37

if he does it will be about saving his career, as without that he goes from hero to zero later in life.

This was discussed on R4 Any Questions tonight. I switched on halfway through but as far as I could tell only one of the panelists took the "He's served his time" line. And the audience seemed overwhelmingly to support those who didn't. But then, R4 listeners and football fans don't overwhelmingly overlap on the Venn diagram of life.

sashh · 18/10/2014 10:21

The GF and GF father, did they not have the same information as the rest of the general public/ did they attend the trial?

Yes, but they are not the most intelligent. The gf tweeted that 'this wasn't about rape it was about consent' shortly after the trial.

PuffinsAreFicticious · 18/10/2014 11:33

It seems to be official now. A 2 year contract, worth £500,000 and all he has to do is apologise for a rape he still maintains he didn't commit. There are days when I wish I wasn't a feminist, where I didn't see and didn't care about the levels of utter hatred for women and girls in a national institution. Today is one of those days.

FreudiansSlipper · 18/10/2014 11:43

I feel the same puffins

I just posted on another thread I am lost for words

I feel at the moment what is the point Sad

ShesEverSoFamous · 18/10/2014 12:14

Just confirmed on Sky News by the club that reports of Ched Evans being offered another contract with Sheffield Utd are false and damaging.

ShesEverSoFamous · 18/10/2014 12:15

I'm at work on my phone so can't post a link, if you flick over to Sky news you'll see it scrolling along the bottom.

Panthingies · 18/10/2014 12:17

if I were the cynical type...I'd suspect that someone in the club 'leaked' the story so they could gauge what the reaction may be.

ShesEverSoFamous · 18/10/2014 12:20

I suspect the same Pathingies, surely the club would have rubbished the reports long ago to save any arguments if they never planned to sign him.

arsenaltilidie · 18/10/2014 18:59

The argument he should be allowed to earn a living is utter nonsense. Being a pro footballer and receiving millions is NOT a normal job.

There is no way should a convicted rapist be allowed to play professionally again.
If he wants to play then its up to him to clear his name first before bringing the sport into disrepute.

Even though Sheffield are in need of a striker; I doubt Sheffield will take him on. He is not that much of a great footballer to compensate losing millions in sponsorship revenue.

YonicScrewdriver · 18/10/2014 20:58

Well said, arsenal.

Amethyst24 · 18/10/2014 21:11

Apparently he is seeking to have his conviction quashed, and the application has been fast-tracked. WHY? www.theguardian.com/society/2014/oct/18/legal-watchdog-fast-tracks-ched-evans-rape-inquiry
