Why the fucking fuck is that rapist Ched Evans being released anyway?

I thought that in order to get parole, the minimum you had to do was admit that you are actually guilty of the crime for which you've been imprisoned?

But Evans the rapist hasn't admitted that he's a rapist. He keeps saying he's innocent.

So why is he being released?

Is this normal now?

Do all prisoners automatically get early release for good behaviour even if they keep saying they didn't actually do the crime, therefore proving that the one thing that used to be a necessity for early release - remorse - is definitely missing?

EE - yes, the point I was making (not very well, it appears) is that if it is known that you wouldn't pass a check that would allow you to work with young people, you shouldn't be working in a role known to influence young people.

I'm not talking about how the law is now, or how it's likely to be in the future - I was just using a simple example of some checks people go through that he would fail. And yet people feel it's ok that he gets this particular job back.

Mengog · 15/08/2014 20:41

Footballers should be role models on the pitch. I idolised Gazza when growing up. I didn't really think or care about his off pitch behaviour - I'm pretty sure most kids felt the same.

I think footballers generally are awful role models. Drug users, dealers, Drink drivers, alcoholics, violent offenders, racists, sex offenders etc If kids are looking for role models for life, don't look at football.

SevenZarkSeven · 15/08/2014 20:44

They do though. What you want and how it is are not the same thing.

Mengog · 15/08/2014 21:02

Yeah they do, but on the pitch. I wanted to play football like Gazza. I didn't want to be an alcoholic woman beater.

If someone wants to follow Ched Evans example and go to prison for rape, I think they may have big problems anyway.

Don't be ridiculous mengog.

They want the fame and the money and the lifestyle.
The lifestyle includes cash and booze and partying and women and being able to get away with loads of stuff.
You are fooling yourself if you think that boys and young men aspire purely to the actual playing football part of it.

Mengog · 15/08/2014 21:38

Well I did as a boy. I don't think 7-12 year olds are thinking about booze, women and getting away with stuff. I played because I loved the game.

As you get older then yeah, money, fame, travel and women will factor more. However, millions upon millions of men and women all over the world play football every weekend for free.

The elite are a tiny, tiny percentage. The average salary of a league 2 player is around 35,000 a year, hardly riches.

HenriettaTurkey · 15/08/2014 21:56

Exactly, bullets.

SevenZarkSeven · 15/08/2014 21:59

Why the random sudden focus on boys aged 7-12?

These men are role models / aspirational types / heroes for men and boys of all ages surely.

I also think you are a bit deluded if you think boys at the upper end of that range don't notice the lifestyle.

CaptChaos · 15/08/2014 23:03

It's all about normalising these men's behaviour, isn't it really?

He's a convicted rapist, but can kick a ball about, so we'll just ignore that. This one beat his wife up in a drunken rage, but look, he cried about it, so we'll ignore that.

It makes this kind of behaviour ok really.

7Days · 15/08/2014 23:41

It's also about showing that being convicted of rape doesn't ruin your life at all, really.
Bad Lad got his wrists slapped - and then his back.

CaptChaos · 15/08/2014 23:45

True, should be an interesting one next time the what about the menz thing kicks off with regard to anonymity for the accused in rape cases.

mausmaus · 15/08/2014 23:46

age 7-12 is the age when boys 'really' get into football. esp if they are serious about becoming professional players. after that it's too late, really.

7Days · 15/08/2014 23:54

It is being painted as a 'hysterical' overreaction - rape! prison! Just for having the crack on a night out. Talk about minimization

sashh · 16/08/2014 02:31

Hup

Stop just repeating the Evan's web site.

Evans was in a taxi going to one location when he got a text saying 'I've got a bird' - at that point he got the taxi to change direction. At that point he decided he was going to have sex with the 'bird', his brother and friend were going to film it. He made that choice, him. Not her.

Even before that they booked a hotel room. Why was the room booked? They claimed one was going to sleep there but I don't know about you but when I stay in a hotel I usually have at least a tooth brush with me, notmally a change of clothing, they didn't.

AskBasil · 16/08/2014 13:10

I have a special contempt reserved for men who tell women who object to unrepentant rapists being accepted as role models, that they're an hysterical baying mob of Daily Mail readers.

Because women have no right to point out the damage men do to us, when they employ rapists and domestic violence abusers in jobs which involve those rapists and abusers being role models and heroes to the next generation of men. We should STFU, let the men watch the game and get them a sandwich when they pretend it doesn't matter that violence against women is tacitly supported by the governing authorities of the most popular sport in the country, just as racism was until they realised it was in danger of losing them sponsorship money

Hup · 16/08/2014 15:56

Sash. I am not. If you had read the thread you would see that I went through the same thing as the girl in question after a spiked drink, and was also raped, have said that I think both men should have been found guilty and that I really hope he doesn't get the appeal he has petitioned for. I have stated why I think the court will go for the appeal and what 'facts' they will use to do so, using his website and many others.

Panwearsamagicjersey · 16/08/2014 16:26

I'm not sure where this speculation that CE has a case to argue, because he has referred to the CCRC. It may not surprise anyone to know that the largest single group of offenders (by offence) are sex offenders who deny outright they did anything wrong. The actual success rate of these cases are utterly minimal, and usually ones where the trial was pursued outside of the glare of publicity.
I think the last numbers I saw anyway were 15,000 referrals, with about 100 successful appeals at the Court of Appeal.
Also, IF I were running an 'independent investigations' co. I wouldn't be turning down potentially lucrative gain by reviewing the evidence and telling an accused there is no grounds. But then I'm just an old cynic.

Panwearsamagicjersey · 16/08/2014 16:30

or rather, telling the convicted there are no grounds.

Mengog · 16/08/2014 21:40

Unfortunately Basil the last two people who were found guilty of on pitch racism are; the current player of the year and now 3rd most expensive player of all time and the captain of one of the best clubs in the country.

Racism, sexism, rape and probably murder can and will all be forgiven in football, as long as the money roles in.

CaptChaos · 16/08/2014 21:45

So why accept the status quo?

Do we just sit here chatting about what a bunch of common criminals they are, or do we do something about it?

Mengog · 16/08/2014 23:38

The status quo will be accepted until the paying public and/or sponsors demand change.

Unfortunately, much like all football fans I will defend my teams players for major indiscretions and castigate opposing team players for minor ones.

Liverpool fans booed the player abused by Suarez and Chelsea fans booed Anton Ferdinand and his brother.

Football won't change because no one really wants it too.

CaptChaos · 16/08/2014 23:41

Then, with the greatest respect, you're just as bad as the SUtd fans that want their rapist back.

Dervel · 17/08/2014 02:38

Well Mengog I wouldn't consider you a football fan in the truest sense of the word. Sure you support your team, but it doesn't sound as if your primary love is around the game itself. Far more in love with the celebrity, the personalities, the clannish nature and the drama of it all than of the actual sport itself.

If you loved the game this player's behaviour would sicken you, you'd feel sick to your stomach you are some small way complicit in a culture that allows this sort of thing to stand.

I would define someone who really loves the game itself as someone who trains hard for a fraction of the pay and acclaim yet still gives their all to it. Kind of like any woman who plays at a high level for example.

PetulaGordino · 17/08/2014 03:03

"Football won't change because no one really wants it to"

No, football won't change because no one with any actual influence really wants it to
