Right, thought I'd better start a new pub. I warn you, my knowledge of Roman numerals conks out shortly after this one, so either buffy will have to start the next thread, or we'll have to go Arabic.

Everyone is welcome in - if you want to chat, or just jump in with a question/link/gin, please do. Smile Especially if it's too small for a thread or you don't feel up to thread-starting.

The old thread has, at my count, about 9 posts to go, and it was here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/2126791-Feminist-Pub-VIII-not-as-prolific-as-the-Swaggerers-but-there-are-cushions-and-consciousness?

We were just chatting about feministy light reading, and will doubtless meander onto other topics shortly. Smile

Yup!

UptoapointLordCopper · 07/08/2014 15:03

It's really boring ...

CaptChaos · 07/08/2014 15:27

It is rather trying!

PetulaGordino · 07/08/2014 15:47

just quickly on easier books - i'm rereading terry pratchett "equal rites"

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 07/08/2014 16:08

The rape thread is doing my head in now. The more I enter into these discussions, the more I wonder whether people just actually want to believe that rape won't happen to them, or won't happen to their daughters, because they will follow the 'right' behaviours and so they will be ok.

I honestly don't understand why there is so much resistance to understanding the (not that) subtle difference between "don't get mega drunk, bad things might happen" and "Avoid rape by not drinking".

CaptChaos · 07/08/2014 16:30

I tend to find that there is a particular poster who, once she's joined the conversation bogs it down in such pathetically tiny points that's it's just not worth the effort of posting anymore. She's on the rape thread, is desperate to get my attention again, so I'm out. Rape apologists just piss me off.

DoctorTwo · 07/08/2014 17:44

Robert Webb writes about feminism from a male perspective. Obviously it's not a precise analysis of the subject, but it appears he gets why it's still needed.

A quick question: am I the only male regular in the pub?

CaptChaos · 07/08/2014 17:46

I think Derval pops in for a sweet sherry every so often, Doctor.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 07/08/2014 17:52

Ooh, I didn't know you were a bloke, Dr. I'm quite proud of myself for not assuming Dr=male.

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 07/08/2014 18:01

I knew you were a man Dr. But only because you said something sex specific on a thread a while back. Can't remember what it was. I am honestly not sure, other than Dervel. We could all be men...

Actually, that isn't true. A lot of you have met each other IRL haven't you.

UptoapointLordCopper · 07/08/2014 18:14

I knew DoctorTwo is a man because he said so some time ago when he said something about something. (Pretty specific, eh? Grin)

Is Penguin a man? Grin Association with male penguins etc etc.

I could be a man, being Lord Copper and all that. Wink

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 07/08/2014 18:15

I think my posting history shows a real commitment to covering my male identity if so, what with all the moaning about late pregnancy, etc, etc. Grin

Yes, I had sorta got penguins figured out as a man. Though, don't daddy Emperor penguins do the childcare, including hatching out the eggs?

OP posts:
PetulaGordino · 07/08/2014 18:17

yes it's the male penguin that hatches the egg isn't it?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 07/08/2014 18:18

Mmm. I think petula and I have seen through your little conspiracy here ...

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 07/08/2014 18:21

Yeah, Penguin is a ma-an! Penguin is a ma-an!

Grin
UptoapointLordCopper · 07/08/2014 18:22

Right. I shall stop being silly and make small people saw various stringed instruments in order to torture the neighbours' eardrums.

ABlandAndDeadlyCourtesy · 07/08/2014 18:23

Sisters, we're gonna need a whole VAT of marmalade!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 07/08/2014 18:26
Grin

Enjoy, lordC.

marmalade?! Confused

OP posts:
ABlandAndDeadlyCourtesy · 07/08/2014 18:33

If we eat boy babies with marmalade, I'm pretty sure we should eat male pub dwellers with the Orange Jam too...

PetulaGordino · 07/08/2014 18:36

i don't like marmalade Sad

like babies though (individually)

ABlandAndDeadlyCourtesy · 07/08/2014 18:44

But it's for the sisterhood Petula!

What if I bake it into a chocolate orange cake?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 07/08/2014 18:46

Mmm, baked marmalade. And chocolate orange cake. Can we have more men on the threads please?

I think I've missed the point, haven't I?

blandy consider it my sacrifice in the name of bringing down the patriarchy

i had an argument with the mother of my french exchange partner when i was younger. she said it wasn't possible for a british person not to like marmalade

UptoapointLordCopper · 07/08/2014 19:00

I have a recipe for marmalade flapjack.
