The woman who wrote that article is a feminist. No doubt about that.

She has a blog, in which she poses as the voice of a gender/generation to insist that young women are "quite happy settling for a mediocre job" rather than competing with men; equates wanting to have children with happiness, and working with lack of fulfilment; and describes her #2 "life milestone all women in their twenties should aim for" as "buying yourself a really expensive pair of shoes". She writes copious lists of fashion trends, but none of feminist theorists.

Nevertheless, a man has stated with enormous self-belief that her feminism is beyond doubt, so I shall bow to his superior everything by concurring.

I think that if Mazupa can believe that this person represents feminism, it will conveniently allow him to believe that all feminists are that ridiculous.

That's what the Mazupas of this world have to do - pretend that any old shit they object to is written by a feminist, 'cos that way they reinforce the hackneyed old idea promulgated by other Mazupas that feminists are man-haters.

They hate feminists, ergo feminists must hate men.

Logic fail.

CaptChaos · 06/05/2014 21:39

I think actually Grimble the mazupams of this world hate women, not just feminists.

Enzima Thank you for that, just the information I was looking for. I shall keep my eye out for her further work and see how the feminist blogging pans out.

It is astonishing really. Sometimes people just see what they want to see.

Continuing the sexism by River Island ......vimeo.com/86498425

Just to be clear (as I don't think my earlier post was), I don't want to tar and feather the journalist, nor to demand her excommunication from the sisterhood. The piece she wrote for Metro was shite and completely unpardonable. She's taken a lot of flak for it on social media, and deservedly so, but some of it has been abusive and misogynistic (a woman who writes frankly about sex is a slut, obviously). So now she's digging in. I hope she'll be able to distinguish the valid criticism from the invalid, but I fear she'll just block it all out, because we're drip-fed the idea that feminists and misogynists are parallel versions of the same stifling, authoritarian enemy.

GentleMenJTheReasonableMRA · 07/05/2014 10:15

To be honest the article is not about true feminism more something that young(ish) girls would titter at over a glass of Chardonnay. An insult to the intelligence of just about everyone.

www.derailingfordummies.com/

Anyhow, back on topic... it's a disgusting item and I'm disappointed that RI have ever stocked it.

scallopsrgreat · 07/05/2014 10:46

Not sure why the writer is getting that much flak. She effectively just wrote the list out. The list was compiled by other women's answers. The only thing she didn't do was emphasise how awful & criminal some of the items were.

I don't think she ever intended to provide any analysis. Maybe she should have (although tbh the list speaks for itself).

Or is it the premise that the MRAs are getting in a lather about. That women dare to question what men do to them in bed?

GentleMenJTheReasonableMRA · 07/05/2014 10:51

Women sometimes nag

Men sometimes nag

Women can be lazy

Men can be lazy

Less a disgusting item, more a slice of life.

I'm sure theres a Womens version out there, but hey ho were all adults aren't we :)

Frankly there are more important things for one to concern ones self with.

HTH.

scallopsrgreat · 07/05/2014 10:56

Really. You have more important things to think about then women who are raped by their boyfriends and don't even recognise it as such? You have more to worry about than men who are raping their girlfriends?

Good for you.

No Scallop I was referring to the River Island product. The Metro article is vile.

Well I'm still happy for you that you can dismiss DV so easily GentlemenJ. You are fortunate.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 07/05/2014 11:25

River Island now added to my black list for life. Appalling. I will be talking this over with DDs too.

MarieNE · 07/05/2014 12:05

Last time I shop with them

TessOfTheFurbyvilles · 07/05/2014 12:08

Why did I read some of the comments on Twitter about the River Island gag thing, because mixed in with those outraged by the products, are of course the inevitable anti-feminist tweets, anti-women tweets, and we can't forget the "it's just a bit of banter" tweets.

I saw one which said something like, "has feminist cost some women their sense of humor?" And the tweet was by a woman.

Heaven bloody help us.

TessOfTheFurbyvilles · 07/05/2014 12:09

that should say "has feminism* cost some women their sense of humor."

turtleback · 07/05/2014 12:28

Is it feminist to show a woman pushing a man away with a shoe? In an article about how she would prefer not to be anally raped? I belvie the photo is meant to be illustrating her pushing him away because she doesn't want to be assaulted (or sexually annoyed as it's phrased in the article).

Also what film is that pic from? hopefully not from his last misogynistic pile of shit.

Anyway I thought MN was going to start getting rid of goady fuckers who think women being offended by anal rape are sexist

Me too, Buffy, albeit the Metro is a newspaper only in the sense that you get all the news you pay for.
