So many evil men...can't stand it

SplitHeadGirl · 01/11/2013 20:21

First of all, I know fully well that men will get upset at what I think and am about to say, so I would like to clarify that I am talking about EVIL men, not the good, wonderful dads and granddads and husbands and nice single blokes out there....the ones who I KNOW (my brain, not my gut, tells me so) are in a majority, but who seem to be few (is it their deafening silence?)

But any fool can see that the sheer amount of men, who are prepared to do unspeakable things to women and girls (and boys as well as other men, not to mention the vulnerable and the elderly...wow, the list goes on) is just overwhelming. I read today about Anene Booysen, and I was absolutely heartbroken, but yet not shocked. For men to be so diabolical to women is not shocking anymore, and that is men's greatest tragedy.

I have two little daughters, and a little son, and I fear for them at the hands of men. Not women...just men.

I feel like I am thinking out loud with this post, so no worries if no one feels they can respond. I just wish I didn't feel so helpless at the tsunami of male violence.

Yes, The national offender management service last year re-classified the def. of 'serious harm' to include repeated assaults which were not in themselves life threatening individually. That adjustment was for repeat DV on women. And yes the serious assaults on men by women do include often a use of a weapon ( due to sheer physical sizes involved) and v often after repeat bullying, as a defence.

SigmundFraude · 07/11/2013 14:15

Are there any non- biased stats around? As that is a women's campaigning group, so I'm a little wary of taking those stats at face value really.

Pan · 07/11/2013 14:17

You'll see the sources at the top of the page - the Ministry of Justice and the Prison Reform Trust.

BasilBabyEater · 07/11/2013 14:39

Oh everyone knows the Ministry of Justice are a bunch of man-hating rabid separatist feminists.

That Chris Grayling, don't get me started on 'im

SF, after yesterday's debacle, I'm suspecting some kind of sanction on me, a suspension perhaps? So I'm going to anticipate that, tryto minimise it, and not engage with you at all. So I'm not being rude to you. It's prob. the least HQ would expect.

Soooo, when the stats have settled, what is the way forward? There are a fair few people arguing with themselves about whether or not male violence is a problem. I don't think anyone is denying that it is. But stats won't fix the problem.

How do we change thousands of years of socialisation that tells men that violence has an indiscriminate use? Given some of the things that have been said on here, I am beginning to wonder why so many men don't use it. What is the difference between the two groups?

SigmundFraude · 07/11/2013 15:01

'So I'm not being rude to you.'

Shame you didn't extend me the same courtesy yesterday really. But yes, add me to the list of people you can't engage with by all means.

I'd think the way fwd is a mixture of things Biggedy. There was a fantastic video from the Australian Armed Forces this year, who made plain the lack of welcome any abusers would meet in the Aussie army. Such leadership in all walks of life would be fantastic, as well as male role models speaking out, in lieu of the poor role models many boys grow up with. Heavier sentencing for violence, more effective community sentence interventions, having 'gender studies' (yes that means males as well as females, doesn't it) on the curriculum, and overall just being that better part of ourselves and recognise that evolution hasn't stopped.

Biggedybiggedybongsoitis · 07/11/2013 15:20

Sounds positive, apart from the heavier sentencing bit. Prison as it is currently set up will surely only make things worse. It doesn't fix people's problems - it just gets them off the streets for a bit, though you would probably know more about that than me. How do we change that?

Pan · 07/11/2013 15:33

Here's the Aussie Army Chief...

Yes I should have said better sentencing where interventions can take place whilst in custody.

Women and children are the innocent victims of man-made wars. Men have pretty much destroyed this planet.

^This is the kind of misinformed rubbish and misandry that does feminism no good at all.

Two points in response, not that I'm sure it's worthy of a response.

Firstly, the men who didn't go to war in WW1 & 2, either for conciousness reasons or ill health. How were they treated by the women as they went about their business? Well? With respect? I think not. British women are by and large supportive of the wars we have waged. Look at the footage from the Faulklands, waving the ships off, the celebrations when we won, for a war waged by a woman prime minister. That's the inconvenient truth.

You say men have pretty much destroyed this planet. But as I stated before, the peoples of N.Africa, who were plunged into WW2, wouldn't say it was men, they would just say that white Europeans cause wars and ruin the planet. Many of today's conflicts have their roots in European colonialism. And African woman living in a war zone today may not blame men, she may blame Europeans. SplitHeadGirl, she may blame you!

Your "it's all the fault of men" stance is simplistic beyond belief.

SigmundFraude · 07/11/2013 18:03

'Firstly, the men who didn't go to war in WW1 & 2, either for conciousness reasons or ill health. How were they treated by the women as they went about their business? Well? With respect? I think not.'

They weren't treated respectfully by any stretch of the imagination. These men should have handed those feathers straight back..

Biggedybiggedybongsoitis · 07/11/2013 18:20

It's about time someone mentioned the patriarchy, and how these women were brainwashed by it. So I will.

These women were brainwashed by the patriarchy into presenting the white feathers.

runs away

SigmundFraude · 07/11/2013 18:33

No, noooooo.

Bunnylion · 07/11/2013 18:44

'British women are by and large supportive of the wars we have waged. Look at the footage from the Faulklands, waving the ships off'

Proof, ladies and gentlemen, war is not the doing of men in governmental power but the female masses and their flag waving puppetry of violence and genocide. It just like how the Jews runs America (they don't btw...)

SigmundFraude · 07/11/2013 18:46

'war is not the doing of men in governmental power'

The government comprises of men and women. MP's are voted for by men and women.

LurcioLovesFrankie · 07/11/2013 18:49

Sigmunde - I'd say that was a civvy/serving soldier distinction, not a gender divide. Most of the serving soldiers I've known have said they have the greatest respect and sympathy for pacifists. But it wasn't just women who were white feather girls - the middle aged man too old to be called up who is a tub-thumping militarist is also a very frequent occurrence in literature of the period.

SigmundFraude · 07/11/2013 18:52

Oh OK Lurcio, i'll look that up - thanks.

Bunnylion · 07/11/2013 18:54

SF when are you going to link your blog?

SigmundFraude · 07/11/2013 18:55

I'm not Smile

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 07/11/2013 18:55

Bloody hell sig - scraping the barrel there! The white feather movement was started by Admiral Fitzgerald to shame men into joining up.
