Hello and welcome! Pull up a chair!

This thread started when we all decided to imagine what the perfect local for feminists would be like. So far, it has taps with plenty of good real ale, and some decent non-alcoholic alternatives too. There are comfy chairs and there's a feminist film night, as well as lots of nice feminist-friendly books on the shelves and space to curl up and read. The open-mic nights are attracting feminist singers and comedians, and we're just sorting out the feminist creche.

Old thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/1875250-The-Feminist-Pub-is-Open-Chat-Rant-or-pull-up-a-chair-here. But don't feel you need to read or catch up - just jump in.

I'm having a nice cup of earl grey but there is wine mulling as requested.

What can I get anyone?

LRD that's lovely - I actually think kindness is everything

YoniMatopoeia · 30/10/2013 22:22

At the feminism in London event on Saturday there was a stall selling vulva bags (they had a felt vulva on the side, sometimes a slogan, sometimes not).

I took a picture. Will see of I can put it on my profile later.

PenguinsDontEatPancakes · 30/10/2013 22:22

Stop teasing me.

glad to help scallops.

scallopsrmissingAnyFucker · 30/10/2013 22:22

Yes Kim DH says buns are bread products weird man

PenguinsDontEatPancakes · 30/10/2013 22:24

Buns are not bread. oooh, except chelsea buns et al are bread dough based.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 30/10/2013 22:25

moon - oh, god, she's not my 'fellow', she's a professor and everything. But yes, she is lovely. And plus I agree - I think it goes back to what you were saying about traditionally 'feminine' qualities needing to be valued. Kindness is important, for men and women, and shouldn't be done down just because it can be twisted by misogynists as a 'feminine' quality.

yoni (apt name right now Grin), that's brilliant.

Yes I'll give him Chelsea buns.

Thanks,LRD. Yes, tired in a good way. I finished my part of a big project at work today. Smile Great thread, btw. I kept up with the one that just finished, but didn't post. Thanks for starting these.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 30/10/2013 22:27

Yep, buns are bread products. Sorry.

I grew up in the Midlands, does that help?

Someone once told me that apparently names for breads/cakes are the most identifying words for telling you what geographical area someone grew up in.

Oh, thanks scones. I can't really take credit, the Chat threads were started long before my time and it was Kim who started imagining a feminist pub. But still, thanks!

Well done on getting the project finished. Smile Hope you enjoy some relaxing time now.

How many of you go on www.Etsy.com seriously type vagina in to the search function. It's amazing

Buns are a bread product, and fairy cakes are inferior tiny cupcakes that you find at church fetes. Nothing as fancy as like I make Wink

APartridgeAmongThePigeons · 30/10/2013 22:29

buns that have cinnamon on them are whole different and lovely thing

PenguinsDontEatPancakes · 30/10/2013 22:29

All my family are Brummie. None of them say buns for bread.Confused is this going to be like those threads about 'toilet'?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 30/10/2013 22:30

I'm kind a terrified of etsy now. And I had to google penis, dildo, and leather scrotum bags this week, all in the course of duty you understand.

OP posts:
PacificDogwood · 30/10/2013 22:30

Well, Penguins point was worth repeating Grin

'Buns' is forever tainted in my mind by Buns of Steel

Sorry, I'll get me coat... I am clearly not capable of a remotely feminist contribution at this stage in the proceedings.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 30/10/2013 22:31

Oh of course, and there was a feminist pub quiz, too. Kim, thanks to you, too.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 30/10/2013 22:32

Ooh, yes. I enjoyed the pub quiz.

Sorry, I've started something now haven't I! I'm a northerner. We have odd names for bread products too. Never heard of baps til I moved to Nottingham for example. We called them teacakes (without fruit - teacakes with fruit were called fruited teacakes. There is logic in the madness).

Having now lit the blue touch paper on this daft conversation I am now off to bed. Night all. And the red wine was scrummy. Thanks!

We have something called teacakes in the US South. They are really big soft cookies. Highly recommended.

MissFenella · 30/10/2013 22:40

I have a quick question, probably been asked before so apologies for that.

What is wrong with usingthe word ladies/lady? I have mused this for a while and presume it is because it has a association with a certain 'type' of woman/female behaviour. Is that it or is their more to it?

Many thanks

MissFenella · 30/10/2013 22:41

sorry about the typos above - too pooped to proof read
