Hello and welcome! Pull up a chair!

This thread started when we all decided to imagine what the perfect local for feminists would be like. So far, it has taps with plenty of good real ale, and some decent non-alcoholic alternatives too. There are comfy chairs and there's a feminist film night, as well as lots of nice feminist-friendly books on the shelves and space to curl up and read. The open-mic nights are attracting feminist singers and comedians, and we're just sorting out the feminist creche.

Old thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/1875250-The-Feminist-Pub-is-Open-Chat-Rant-or-pull-up-a-chair-here. But don't feel you need to read or catch up - just jump in.

I'm having a nice cup of earl grey but there is wine mulling as requested.

What can I get anyone?

This wasn't on line - it was at a party. Hopefully I won't met her again.

SinisterSal · 30/10/2013 21:45

Fluffy Feminism sounds quite nice actually

It would give us all a break from that strident manhating, which can be quite tiring

I'm fairly misanthropic quite often. I hate on an equal basis.

BerstieSpotts · 30/10/2013 21:51

I'm even friends with men.

APartridgeAmongThePigeons · 30/10/2013 21:53

fluffy feminism

I'm a sahm who loves glitter and cupcakes and bunting and shit

SconeRhymesWithGone · 30/10/2013 21:57

Just checking in from across the pond. I'm just going to sit back and listen for a while; I am too tired to talk. I'd like a large white wine and my favorite British treat--a bacon butty. (Is there food in this pub?)

Plus3 · 30/10/2013 22:03

I have I just started a whole new strand of feminism? Wink

Maybe the Mary Poppins song should be our anthem....

SconeRhymesWithGone · 30/10/2013 22:04

Nothing wrong with cupcakes. . .

Maybe it has an image of a vulva delicately stencilled on its top?

Bunnylion · 30/10/2013 22:11

Thanks for all the love. Good old mumsnet making me feel all warm and fuzzy Smile . I went into labour during a thread on here but 45 hours later he popped out and both lungs collapsed so we staying in ICU for a while. I'm doing well now and moving past it. DH and I have really talked it over. I've asked for my notes so will go thought them when they arrive.

There are some very difficult thing us feminists put ourselves through in the name of our cause. I now present to you all a new male human for us to mold into a caring, sensitive, woman loving man

LRDtheFeministDragon · 30/10/2013 22:12

There is indeed a bacon butty, scone. Hope you're tired in a good way. Smile

plus - oh yes, fairy cakes much nicer. It's the thick icing I can't do with cupcakes, too sweet for me.

Anyway. I have a nice positive experience from today. Ages ago, I had a pretty bad experience of institutional misogyny. And there was someone who was quietly instrumental in making me feel better and more confident. She wouldn't remember it, she was just very kind. I was remembering it today as she did a presentation of her research, which was brilliant, and she still took the time to tell me why it'd all been so exciting for her to work on. When I left she was talking to another new student and giving her all her attention.

It really made me think how nice woman-woman mentoring and networking can be. Smile

I wear dresses sometimes, sometimes heels, and on occasion makeup.

It did occur to me today how many meetings I attend where I am the only woman.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 30/10/2013 22:12

Am I the only one who calls cupcakes, buns? I have this disagreement discussion with DH every so often. For half my life cupcakes were just buns. Cupcakes is a word that sounds so American to me.

PenguinsDontEatPancakes · 30/10/2013 22:15

DH's family call basically all small cakes buns. Does that help?

PacificDogwood · 30/10/2013 22:18

Good grief, the pub has been busy today Grin!!

Too tired now, but read everybody's post with great interest.

This is the only cupcake recipe that deserves the name Grin

MooncupGoddess · 30/10/2013 22:19

LRD Grin I should have guessed that someone else would have already had the idea...

Your fellow researcher sounds lovely!

scallopsrmissingAnyFucker · 30/10/2013 22:20

Oh me too Yoni. I work in IT and I am often the only woman in a room full of men .

I was watching that new series on BBC1 last night with David Tennant and just noticed how many men there were in it. Bit parts too, in the background milling around. And how it didn't look odd. I then tried to imagine the proportions of each reversed and it would just have looked odd and unrealistic. We do get conditioned to expect to see a great deal of men everywhere especially in media.
