Hello and welcome! Pull up a chair!

This thread started when we all decided to imagine what the perfect local for feminists would be like. So far, it has taps with plenty of good real ale, and some decent non-alcoholic alternatives too. There are comfy chairs and there's a feminist film night, as well as lots of nice feminist-friendly books on the shelves and space to curl up and read. The open-mic nights are attracting feminist singers and comedians, and we're just sorting out the feminist creche.

Old thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/1875250-The-Feminist-Pub-is-Open-Chat-Rant-or-pull-up-a-chair-here. But don't feel you need to read or catch up - just jump in.

I'm having a nice cup of earl grey but there is wine mulling as requested.

What can I get anyone?

I'd like to think so penguins but to be fair, it was from someone who is very proud of being a feminist

APartridgeAmongThePigeons · 30/10/2013 21:23

If I give DD the blue ones will she grow a willy?

Almost certainly, big muscly veiny one

Penguins... you got to let it go

Blush Oh the shame.

APartridgeAmongThePigeons · 30/10/2013 21:24

How is being an intelligent woman with a high pressure high stress job not a feminist? Hmm Confused

Is it because you aren't a doctor, because she is a fucking idiot if that's the case...

LRDtheFeministDragon · 30/10/2013 21:24

Grin It's ok penguins. You're nobly filling the role of the drunk in the corner muttering the same thing over and over. I'm certain it's pure acting on your part. Wink

plus, loads of people are very proud of being something, and also very ignorant of what it is/very bizarre in how they judge others. It's a fundamental example of human wankerishness.

Sit down and enjoy the wine.

PenguinsDontEatPancakes · 30/10/2013 21:26

I am not allowed to be drunk. I'm 3 months pregnant. I have no excuse except technology. Sad

Well, that's a nice reason not to be drunk. Sad

LRDtheFeministDragon · 30/10/2013 21:27

That was meant to be a Smile

LRDtheFeministDragon · 30/10/2013 21:27

I have not yet ascended to the inner depths of feminism where we mourn the act of pregnancy. Honest.

I think that was the point - I sold out by taking my orders from men.....I pointed out that most of my consultant team were women, and we work extremely well together, but apparently I was deluded.
Anyway. I am very proud of what I do, so thank you

I was a lawyer. Never had a female boss. Wonder if I sold out?

APartridgeAmongThePigeons · 30/10/2013 21:33

You could ask her why a feminist would give into the patriarchal conditioning to devalue traditionally female occupations by assuming they are less worthwhile than traditionally male ones. Followed by an enquiring head tilt.

what she said

LRDtheFeministDragon · 30/10/2013 21:34

So I have been told, buffy. Sad

Generally by rather bitter MRAs who have met an enormous number of fictional feminists who resemble no woman I've ever met.

OP posts:
APartridgeAmongThePigeons · 30/10/2013 21:34

Any of the first women to get gainful employment would have worked for men. They were all sell outs too.

And the first women to go to university and have male professors. Horrible sellouts.

APartridgeAmongThePigeons · 30/10/2013 21:35

I mourn pregnancy, it is shit.

I like the wee squishy ones at the end though Grin :)

Plus3 · 30/10/2013 21:40

buffy that's the area that actually really interests me - the valuing of female dominated roles, positive role modelling, knowing that everything is open and accessible to us as women, but acknowledging that some of the more nurturing roles as equally valid and important.

Is that too fluffy???
