... Google suggests 'craigslist' as it's top suggestion. Based purely on my typing the letter c.

How many skanky men people must be using that site for this to be the case?

And in which case, how many seemingly respectable, loving husbands and fathers are using this site?

I am perturbed.

I thought you could also find jobs on that site, like gumtree?

Craigslist is for all sorts of things like gumtree. So "skanky men" will be using it as will "skanky women"

When I enter 'c' into Google, the first thing that comes up is Curry's - which reflects my own search history I would guess. So must be someone using your computer who has been looking for Craigslist.

Unless my laptop just realises that at my age I am going to be more interested in white goods than 50 shades of gray ...

You seem to have gotten the wrong end of the stick about what it is for. I take it you've never clicked when Google has suggested it for you?

Craigslist is just gumtree really! It advertises all types of jobs.

I must be mistaken. I have never looked at it, having been informed on MN that it was a directory of prostitutes, compiled by a man, with ratings etc.

Craigslist is just a listings site. There is some dodgy stuff on there, but there's also a lot that's not.

I get craiglist if I use google.com, currys if I use google.co.uk

Oooh interesting. The Wikipedia entry does actually back up OP's idea that Craigslist was accused of facilitating prostitutibe in its adult section but that that section was taken down.

But mainly it is for other, less controversial, types of classifieds.

It's only on my iPhone and iPad I get craigslist - on the pc I also get currys comet and cineworld.

I get crambe cordifolia, candles, catastrophization, and Caligula Camus.

I think that is a (fairly weird) personal search profile, rather than what the world in general is looking for.

I'm the only one to use my iPad and it comes up with craigslist first too and I've never searched for it so, contrary to TeamGBIWI's comment, it's not that someone has been using it on your PC just that it's an often searched term.
