I know this has been talked about alot but just wanted some advice. As a victim of rape the idea of submissive sex makes me feel very uncomfortable but all my friends are reading this. So do you think it is a book I should read too. Is t really about women's empowerment? Have nc btw. Thank you x

Just posting to say I agree very much with AnyFucker.

AF, we are still here, we're just kinda weary.

Book sounds like a pile of misogynistic triggering shite. Which is often what makes a book very popular, and if it is written in poncy language, become a classic. Go figure.

AnyFucker · 29/06/2012 16:57

Thanks, BC. I am over my little tantrum now Smile

I am so surprised at all the negativity. I read it . I loved it. She did not submit at all. she negotiated through the whole book. I have only read the 1st book. It was not badly written, it was fine, not brilliantly written either. What is it with english people that as soon as something gets to be so popular you all have to diss it and be so superior?
Build something up and knock it down. And why do people comment on a book if they HAVEN'T READ IT? How is that helpful??

clarerachel · 04/07/2012 11:57

I can't comment on the feeling of rape victims. I have no idea how this could affect them.

runningforthebusinheels · 04/07/2012 13:07

'english people' ??

I wonder why anyone would comment on this thread - where the OP asks specifically about the effect of the book on rape victims - when they say they have no idea how it could affect rape victims.

clarerachel · 06/07/2012 06:44

You're right, forgive me, this is my first time. I put my comments about general things about fifty shades in the wrong place. this is a thread specifically about a rape victim.

grimbletart · 06/07/2012 12:03

No OP - it's not about female empowerment. It's about a woman who is laughing all the way to the bank over her success in conning a gullible public into buying a badly written book.

grimbletart · 06/07/2012 12:05

I doubt the author gives a flying fig about its possible effect on women who have been raped. She just wants fame and fortune. Sadly.

Oh I love you lot. I havent had the net for a while to sound off but I have been dismayed at the number of my female friends who are chortling over this book and are interested in "trying it" these are women whom I though of as strong females untill now.
