Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

In light of MNHQ's recent statement that the feminism section is in fact not a feminism section but a section 'about' feminism, perhaps we need to be warning people about this up front?

I'm of the opinion that it needs to made clear that whilst the title may be 'feminism/women's rights', this section is quite different to other boards that deal with feminism/women's rights.

It isn't fair to mislead - lots of posters expect the section to be a place where feminist views can be freely explored without fear of posters' mental health being questioned, and a zone where misogyny is unwelcome. In reality, pretty much anything goes here and whilst it is, of course, MNHQ's prerogative to run their site as they see fit, some sort of disclaimer about the section seems only fair in order to forewarn posters (especially posters looking for support or exploration of sensitive issues).

Perhaps it would be an idea for there to be a header at the top of the section stating MNHQ's position?

All suggestions welcomed Smile.

LRD - SORRY!

Wasn't laughing hollowly at you. Was laughing hollowly at me, wasting my time by reporting offensive gobshiteness and thinking that there was any point to it!

Not you.

Yes, Stewie, absolutely.

MNHQ, Are you listening to ANY of this?

Beachcomber · 26/09/2011 19:52

Also agreeing with BOF.

SGM - I had no idea (stupid thing to say, why would I? But I mean, that's amazing and shocking).

Well said.

And BOF too.

scottishmummy · 26/09/2011 19:58

leBof,many posters have been told to go away, shut it,stop posting or what to post. some of you can dish it out but certainly squeal with indignation if anyone uses same retorts

as i have repeatedly said, its an open space, people should be able,to post without an inappropriate cacophony if troll, derail, mra etc it had become so overused it has became a predictable throw away quip

i dont believe in stifling an oppositional view just because
i do advocate mnhq delete were deemed offensive, malicious

the mouldies trotted off and made their own member forum.if some feel their ideological needs aren't met that option is available

swallowedAfly · 26/09/2011 20:00

go ahead and post here all you like sm - it's looking like you won't have any feminists to disturb you.

do you think chicken keepers would mind us bunking in with them for a while?

LeBOF · 26/09/2011 20:01

They seem a nice bunch. A few cocks, mind.

scottishmummy · 26/09/2011 20:03

saf, youve had the mnhq position loud and clear.its an open topic.all welcome

ThePosieParker · 26/09/2011 20:04

SM...you're right it is a public space, but I do wonder why you keep posting here?

swallowedAfly · 26/09/2011 20:04
Grin

right. whose going to invade the henhouse? though what's the betting we're not allowed to talk to each other in peace wherever we post it. that's the reality - that there are some who are determined to derail and won't rest until feminists are not allowed to talk to each other in peace anywhere on this site.

which is frankly a bit deranged.

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 26/09/2011 20:05

Well said SGM and LeBOF.

I am sure that that there are many like me who don't post as regularly as others and who have not joined in this thread but appreciate everything that the regulars have been trying to do to keep this section focussed on Feminism and not MRAs.

swallowedAfly · 26/09/2011 20:05

we could have a refugee thread for feminists who don't want to share a country with misogynists and deranged derailers.

scottishmummy · 26/09/2011 20:06

i post because i want to
same as you i imagine.not so unfathomable

ThePosieParker · 26/09/2011 20:06

My proposal is a Phoebe and Monica style freeze out of any deraillers/trolls/MRAs etc.

swallowedAfly · 26/09/2011 20:08

i suppose there is off the beaten track but i dare say some people would be determined to follow to keep on with their haranguing.

scottishmummy · 26/09/2011 20:09

mnhq position is clear on this topic
any purposeful collective orchestrated action against any individual is bullying and i imagine mnhq would take a dim view

SM you were just so right all along!

You read the situation better than any of us!

I hope you will start threads now and not just join in on them. Surely this is encouraging.
