Some men really hate women being single don't they?

inspired by a couple of other threads including the separatism one. Have you ever noticed that if a man you don't like or know or fancy is trying to persuade you to date him or spend time with him or even just talk to him, the only really effective way to make him fuck off is to tell him that you are another man's property. Just saying No, leave me alone, no thanks, actually I am having a conversation with my female friend and am not interested in talking to you, never seems to work until you throw in My Boyfriend or My Husband.

Well exactly Abs! If you ignore comments (or body language/other signals for that matter) that you aren't welcome, you are rude and have a sense of entitlement, lack of respect etc!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalking

A whole host of psychological problems linked to this. I think mild sociopathy can be seen all over the place though....

SGM - I've been going out to pubs and clubs for over 20 years - I have never had a man not take a hint and go away - most men have too much pride to flog a dead horse and will wander off to find a women who is interested. If he's drunk that's a different matter and cannot be used as an example of normal male social behaviour.
The women moaning that men give them unwanted attention, will be the same women moaning that they've become 'invisible' when they're old.

No I'm not saying anyone is lying - I'm giving you my experiences.

filthyfunkproject · 04/08/2011 10:09

yes, SGM - alcohol is probably the problem tbh.

The lynx adverts are appalling - I don't know how they get away with it tbh.

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 04/08/2011 10:22

I can understand you not seeing this as an issue if you have never experienced it, but that doesn't mean to say other people haven't and it isn't an issue for them. Diminishing their experiences and their feelings in this matter by saying comments such as "The women moaning that men give them unwanted attention, will be the same women moaning that they've become 'invisible' when they're old" is rude and derogatory. Again I just wonder why you, Wamster and jenny feel the need to do that, filthy?

filthyfunkproject · 04/08/2011 10:31

What's the point in trying to explain?- it will only get reported.

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 04/08/2011 10:35

Well if the explanation will get reported, then it must be personal or sexist or racist i.e. breaking MN guidelines. Which is interesting...

Wamster · 04/08/2011 10:37

I don't know why filthyfunkproject has been reported -not on what I can see written here anyway, but as some people here seemingly take offence at every little action their fellow human beings carry out, it is no surprise.

Wamster · 04/08/2011 10:40

It would appear that some men are rude. Not necessarily abusive or anything, just rude. Just as some women are. I bet some of the posters here have done things and others have thought, 'that is rude of them'.

I think this thread should go in the etiquette section not feminism.

BoneyBackJefferson · 04/08/2011 10:41

two articles I found interesting

stop hitting on me

and (probably already linked)

Schrödinger?s Rapist

ChristinedePizan · 04/08/2011 10:43

What a shock - all women's experiences are not the same.

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 04/08/2011 10:47

I haven't reported filthy. I was genuinely interested in why you were all so hell bent on dismissing people's feelings and experiences. But it is apparent that none of you are engaging with the conversation we were having, just making accusations about feminists in general and what you think we feel/think. Which is fine. There is the rest of MN and the rest of the internet to do that, if you wish.

VictorGollancz · 04/08/2011 10:48

Wamster, have you seen sites such as Hollaback, or the London Anti-Street Harassment Campaign? The Guardian reported on it, and I can't find the article right now but the comments section ran to almost 500 posts, mostly from women describing comments, stares, whistles, assault, following...

It's really off for you to characterise women as taking offence as 'every little thing' when for thousands of women intrusive male behaviour makes navigating public space a pain in the arse at best, and significantly traumatic at worst.

If you don't find it intrusive, or you haven't experienced it, then I am genuinely pleased for you. But please have the respect for others who don't share your views.
