Was Bristol Palin raped?

darleneoconnor · 20/06/2011 11:16

according to this bristol palin was so drunk when she conceived her son that she doesn't remember having sex.

Sounds like rape to me.

Then she was basically 'forced' to marry her rapist? WTF! Sometimes America sounds more like the middle east!

Quite a few forums are discussing this, with some

disgusting rape myths on this forum

Did anyone mention that no-one thinks 'girls never, ever lie' yet? Oh yes, I think maybe they did. Several times. Over and over.

Macaroona · 25/06/2011 20:13

Lots of 15yos have sex. They're not all victims. That was the point of the anecdote Alice. Custardo posted about her age like it was the main issue.

reelingintheyears · 25/06/2011 20:14

Are you talking to me buzzsore?

I said i would never assume that women/girls were lying and that i would never assume that men/boys were lying either.

I think that only fools would think that any gender is incapable of lying.

buzzsore · 25/06/2011 20:15

Well, that's not how statistics work. [sigh]

buzzsore · 25/06/2011 20:17

No, not particularly, reeling.

Macaroona · 25/06/2011 20:20

I have to chip in about this 48% statistic! We don't know the question they answered, no-one can find the original research. 48% of self-selecting men on the Nuts website for all we know.

I'm married to a statistician, I am used to rants about meaningless stats in the media, but posters' blind acceptance if the figure is staggering.

Macaroona · 25/06/2011 20:20
  • of the figure

Custardo pointed out an age...not her own.

Macaroona · 25/06/2011 20:40

She pointed out Bristol's age, implying it was very important.

reelingintheyears · 25/06/2011 20:46

And what about Levi's age?

He was 16....she was 15...

Who knows how many days their birthdays were apart.

How about if it had been the other way around?

Macaroona · 25/06/2011 21:30

I agree reeling, it's not an issue. As I posted about ten or so posts ago, it would need to be a 3 year difference to be classified as statutory rape.

This thread is going in circles.

reelingintheyears · 25/06/2011 21:50

We all have DC,some have boys and some have girls and some have both.

None of us think we are bringing up rapists.

None of us (i hope) think we are married to/living with rapists/abusers.

The unpleasantness is unnecessary and unproductive.

And does women no good at all.

BP's book is for sale on Amazon now. If you log into Amazon and use the 'look inside' facility, reading the opening pages, you can see her full description of the event, which gives some more context for this discussion.

karmakameleon · 25/06/2011 22:06

I haven't had much time to post today but please can I make one thing very clear:

Not all men are rapists. In fact very few men are rapists. But some are and they are going round serially raping women. One in twenty women in the UK has been raped and most do not tell a single soul. The reason why they don't tell anyone is because they know they will not be believed. They don't deserve to be treated like this.

Thanks StyleandBooty.

Not much clearer... she doesn't remember what happened between sitting on the chair outside the tents and waking up in his tent alone. But later she calls it a 'foolish decision'.

One thing's for sure - she doesn't want to call it rape. Sad situation.

And what is wrong with saying that not all men are rapists?

Dittany...you still have not answered my question.

sunshineandbooks · 25/06/2011 22:57

Levi brought the alcohol even though Bristol didn't drink, and he kept putting a new drink in her hand according to the book. Bristol woke up having no idea what happened, and her friend had to tell her that she'd had sex with Levi.

If that's true (haven't read it first hand) then in my book it's rape, even if Bristol herself didn't see it as such. Knowing she didn't drink, he plied her with alcohol. Nice guy! Hmm

karmakameleon · 25/06/2011 22:59

Nothing is wrong with saying not all men are rapists. But neither dittany nor I said all men were in the first place so not seeing why it is our job to correct the man hating statements. That should befor the man haters to do.
