How do we raise our sons to treat girls and women respectfully...?

...no matter what they look like, what they're wearing, etc?

This thread is inspired by AnyFucker's thread about how her teen DD wants to dress, but it's about inculcating our sons with an inbuilt respect for women and belief that they are their equals.

Haven't we had an enormous thread about motor insurance recently? As fascinating as the subject is, do we have to do it all again? Grin

Mind you I wonder how all these young men are going to feel when they get older and realise the flip side is they;ve fucked their pensions Grin

Sorry, Sardine, I was really just trying to say life is too short to get het up over stupid remarks about women drivers etc. when the truth of the matter is that women are clearly better, or at least, safer drivers than men, which fact is borne out by the insurance companies' policies.

I just find that a lot of the threads in the feminism forum end up tilting at windmills. Hmm

I don't understand the remark about fucking their pensions?

SardineQueen · 20/05/2011 19:19

Grin I can link if you like it went on and on and on and on and on!!!

The pensions are fucked because the vast majority of people have money purchase schemes now where they pay into a pot and buy an annuity when they retire. At the moment the same amount of money will buy a higher annual pension for a man than for a woman because on average men die sooner. Because of this ruling annuity rates will have to be equalised which will mean that for men they get less for their money. Similarly with Income Protection policies where female rates are higher, men's premiums will go up.

Ah! I see. Thanks for the clarification. Smile

I like this discussion. You know what came to mind as I read all these notes on portrayal of women in music videos and the women's competition to outdo each other to the point of disgust sometimes, that young people are emulating these styles to be "glamorous". Interestingly, these images are never seen by religious Jews or Muslim. Most of these homes do not even have a television and we call them backward. Check that out.

I use the doll to teach him to care for a child. It worked. And I agree with writer who talks about our own behaviour as parents. I am learning a lot from these discussions. Thank you.
