The best anti-porn evidence I've seen.

(Please watch with caution, some scenes are upsetting)

Just read the thread. remember seeing the documentary at the time. Shocking and disgraceful that these things are allowed to be made.

I think the core of the disassociation and treating women as objects is to do with power and its converse weakness. Sexual experience is a biological urge but emotional attachment is regarded as a weakness since it leads to loss of control and power. It means being under the control of emtions rather than controlling emotions. The same urge to power and treating of others as objects is seen when gangs stamp on the heads of others or when Hutus and Tutsis butcher innocent men, women and children or when the soldiers in Sierra Leone chop the arms off babies. The objectification of others allows the person doing it to mistreat them without any human emotion or empathy.
The urge to power is really due to an underlying weakness that is compensated for by exerting power.

Criminals, thugs, con men, pornographers etc. objectify others in order to mistreat them and gain power and money by exploiting them.

But if we don't ever worry about "why" how can we ever stop it? If we don't try to understand, does this not just let the situation carry on?

claig · 07/04/2011 21:53

Yes, agree, they are evil. But what turns them evil. All of the Hutus and Tutsis do carried out atrocities weren't eveil before it started. Somehow they were swept up in it. People can be turned evil by messages that society pushes out as well. That is why it is important that porn like this doesn't grow in popularity.

Psychopathy:

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6198704.stm

I read up a lot about this a couple of years ago after my own experience with one.

This book, written by a neurobiologist, is interesting:

Not that I am making excuses for these people at all, I hasten to add. I wish that we could ship them all off to a desert island somewhere.

I don't agree with these pyschologists who say this about pathology

"This failure to recognise and emotionally respond to facial and other signals of distress may underlie psychopaths' failure to block behaviour that causes distress in others and their lack of emotional empathy, the scientists suggest."

When Ronnie Kray held a red hot poker to the eyes of another criminal and threatened to blind him, he understood teh fear of the other person, he enjoyed that person's fear, he was sadistic and cruel. It made him feel powerful that the other person was weak and fearful.

claig · 07/04/2011 22:03

Max Hardcore is the same, he enjoys the power and degrading the women, he gets pleasure out of it. That is why he does it. He wants to feel powerful and make his victioms defenceless.

K999 · 07/04/2011 22:03

I am in no way an expert or even educated in this field but I always find it fascinating that when programmes on TV try to explore this issue (ie what makes a man commit heinous crimes/evil) they somehow attribute this to their childhood.....usually a controlling/possessive mother?

claig · 07/04/2011 22:07

I think rapists are the same. Rape is largely about power and degrading and humiliating a defenceless victim.

AyeRobot · 07/04/2011 22:09

K999, have you really just singled out mothers as the cause for male psychopaths, on a thread about violent porn, on the feminism board?Shock

K999 · 07/04/2011 22:12

I think that most people accept that rape is more about power/control/anger than about sex....but what makes a man want to rape another person? Control and anger can be displayed in other ways. Ie the Krays....what is it about some that rape seems to be the outlet for this behaviour?

K999 · 07/04/2011 22:17

Lol. Have not singled out mothers. As I have mentioned I am no expert. Only commenting on the (very little) that I know. However, I know men who expect their wives/partners to do everything for them simply because their mothers treated them like babies most of their lives. My friend still gets up at 7am to make her son (22) his breakfast, iron his shirt for work, make his packed lunch, drive him to work, call him twice a day to make sure he is ok, make his dinner when he comes home and vets his girlfriends!

And ironically I get that feminism is about stopping this cycle???

claig · 07/04/2011 22:19

I think rapists are cowards. They pick on weaker defenceless women. They don't do what Ronnie Kray did because they would then be in danger from the other criminal. That recent rapist who raped old people in their homes was a coward. They are evil and weak themselves and they get sadistic pleasure from controlling others, exerting power over them and witnessing their fear.

Some people don't have a reason for behaving the way they do. Call it psychopathy, call it evil. Either way, it's extremely dangerous. Porn gives these men an excuse to abuse women. I wish men would stop buying it. A bit like the Daily Sport...

K999 · 07/04/2011 22:24

Dittany - but why do these people want to exert control over another person? And in no way am I saying that his mother made him do it. Its just a view that I have based on what I have read/seen. I just would like to dig deeper about the psyche of these individuals.

PeterAndreForPM · 07/04/2011 22:26

K999, why don't you pm Andre1960 ?

I am sure he could help you with your dilemma

I heard the other day that the Daily Sport has filed for bankruptcy.

Ok. I shall leave the thread now. I am just trying to explore the issue further. I have said I am not blaming mothers, merely making an observation. As I have said, I lurk round these threads and occasionally post because I am interested. It is my mistake because I didnt realise you had to be a feminist to comment. The few comments I have made usually get ridiculed, or I am made to to feel dense or abhorrent. Anyway accept my apologies. I shall go and comment on a thread about make up, shoes or parenting. I know my place and will leave a thread where I feel over powered. Than you all for letting me contribute (even with a limited knowledge base).

JessinAvalon · 07/04/2011 22:36

@Claig...that's what I meant....no more Daily Sport. These men would stop making porn if they couldn't make money out of it.
