Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

So what would our slogan be?

We would quite like a slogan to go on the banner for marches, and I thought it would be nice to discuss it more widely than just the feminist crafters.

Suggestions so far:

The hand that rocks the cradle can [also] change the world

Agitate, educate, organise (this was an NUM local branch slogan; we might be able to come up with a variation.)

I didn't vote for Consciousness Raising 2.0 because there wasn't room for a third choice, but if it doesn't win perhaps we can have badges of it.

I can imagine it being a good conversation-piece with other feminists when you are trying to explain the point of Mumsnet.

Yes, chants and buttons are good uses of the other suggestions!

FlamingoBingo · 11/03/2011 20:42

Just voted and then just saw Claig's one! That's fab too! Can I have a third vote?

FlamingoBingo · 11/03/2011 20:43

I mean 'Liberty, Equality, Maternity!'

FlamingoBingo · 11/03/2011 20:45

My friend's just looking through a Maya Angelou poetry book and found the poem 'Still I Rise' - how about 'Still We Rise' for a slogan?

FlamingoBingo · 11/03/2011 20:46

I love the idea that we're (feminists) are still going strong, and will not stop making a fuss until we have achieved equality.

Grumpla · 11/03/2011 20:55

why don't you not add any more in but if people want they can always put the other ones in the 'other' box at the bottom.

THAT'S THE NEW RULE, PEOPLE!!!

I'm going to go and get my sewing machine set up now, for a completely unrelated project, but if we are doing it in patchwork then put me down for a square.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 11/03/2011 20:56

and it will be even more apposite when we're all on Gransnet Wink

But if people add new ones, they'll only get the vote of the person who added them!

Do we need to stop that survey and do another one after the weekend to give a chance for other suggestions to be made? This thread hasn't been running that long.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 11/03/2011 21:40

if you like, not many people have voted yet have they?

These are fab! What are you slogan-ing for? Just in general or for a specific event?

suwoo · 11/03/2011 21:57

I feel a bit of a gatecrasher and a feminist newbie, but I have voted.

we're sloganning for the banner which is primarily for future Reclaim the Nights and MWRs and any other opportunity that presents itself, but hopefully we will find other uses for the slogan itself, if it is brilliant, as it no doubt will be.

Suwoo - the more people that vote the better Smile

oh yes, excellent point about meeting up. It will help us assemble and keep together at future marches, and also at events like conferences maybe.

Recently i've been reading about patriarchy and kyriarchy, who in this country are the patriarchs?

Wouldn't you have to know this to get rid of them one prick at a time?

We've had 20 votes so far.

Raising The Revolution is a clear winner at the moment...

Personally I think Liberty, Equality, Maternity is also brilliant, I think that would make an excellent pinbadge (perhaps with 'Mumsnet Feminists' in small letters underneath / round side badge?)

If you write that in as your 'Other' I will count em up, there are two votes there for it already.

Here's the voting form again for those too lazy to scroll back through previous posts :)

FlamingoBingo · 12/03/2011 15:55

Can you add in 'Still We Rise' Grumpla? I already voted so can't do it myself or, indeed, vote for it, and everyone ignored it anywaybwhen I suggested it last night Grin but I'd like to see it there all the same!
