Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

So what would our slogan be?

We would quite like a slogan to go on the banner for marches, and I thought it would be nice to discuss it more widely than just the feminist crafters.

Suggestions so far:

The hand that rocks the cradle can [also] change the world

Agitate, educate, organise (this was an NUM local branch slogan; we might be able to come up with a variation.)

The way I heard it was "The hand that rocks the cradle can cradle a rock". But perhaps that's a bit violent as a concept.

But it would be nice to bring in motherhood or children somehow.

"We march for our children's world"?

I've got a bone to pick with SGB - thanks to her I made myself sound like some kind of old hand at BDSM in a chat with relative stranger last night. OOPS. It's very hard to unlearn terminology learnt on MN it seems Blush :o

FlamingoBingo · 10/03/2011 19:36

I love 'The Revolution Begins At Home'!

I think BOF's slogan is fab but, some of us aren't mums, and it woudl be nice to not deny that diversity by choosing a slogan that doesn't say stuff about being mums.

We could always have a slogan and a strapline...

Right up until you want her to do something.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 10/03/2011 20:27

yes, and her teachers might not be very pleased if they heard about it.

I like that slogan - is it ok to nick slogans?

And I wouldn't mind my daughters living by it either - yes, it's annoying when they question what you askt hem to do, but I'd far rather they did that than blindly did what I say because I'm the boss...although I do get flamed on MN for having that parenting approach Blush

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 10/03/2011 21:02

surely the point of slogans is that they should spread?

Mumsnet Feminists - we are what we think and what we do about what we think. Smile

Maybe this would counter the 'dull Mummies' stereotype.

BarryShitpeas · 10/03/2011 22:02

I like "the revolution begins at home".

"spitting through our beards since 2010" funny.

Something about kitchens of resistance?

BitOfFun · 10/03/2011 22:09

Not sure about the kitchens- I try to avoid mine Grin

Rohanda · 10/03/2011 22:12

Chant: "Come and 'ave a go if you think you're pink enough"

BarryShitpeas · 10/03/2011 22:13

Yeah, there is that.

It was supposed to be in the vein of revolution beginning at home, and all that.

majorydoors · 10/03/2011 22:18

Post it anyway

Namechange if you not sure

Mumsnet: just fishin

Leave the twat

Fanjos and Norks rule

BitOfFun · 10/03/2011 22:28

Barry- I liked the other one Smile

Grumpla · 10/03/2011 22:44

The more I drink think about it the more tented I am to have 'Resist, Do Not Comply' tattooed on my bum what an ace slogan.

Grumpla · 10/03/2011 22:44

TEMPTED bloody iPhone...

Unrulysun · 11/03/2011 05:05

I like 'the revolution begins at home' but I worry that it reinforces women=home?

I love Words and Deeds.

How about 'Mumsnet Feminists: Don't Make Us Come Over There'? :)

Unrulysun · 11/03/2011 05:27

I particularly like Words and Deeds because it's the Internet - so it's just words on a page innit but then there are actions which stem from that.

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 11/03/2011 05:42

Oh, lord, I'd forgotten "pillowed laphounds from hell".

Good times. Good times.

I like the hand that rocks the cradle, and also The Revolution Begins At Home, but I feel like there's something to be said about the way Mumsnet allows women to come together in (almost) all-female space and talk honestly, because that feels very feminist. Like a new-fangled consciousness raising group.

Ooh! Ooh! "Mumsnet Feminists: Consciousness-Raising 2.0"?

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, But There'll Probably Be An AIBU Thread About It
