Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

So what would our slogan be?

We would quite like a slogan to go on the banner for marches, and I thought it would be nice to discuss it more widely than just the feminist crafters.

Suggestions so far:

The hand that rocks the cradle can [also] change the world

Agitate, educate, organise (this was an NUM local branch slogan; we might be able to come up with a variation.)

Words and deeds.

Definately.

BarryShitpeas · 11/03/2011 09:45

What does the 2.0 stand for in the consciousness-raising one?

Love so many of these ideas.

To explain a little - "The Revolution Begins At Home" was because the banner is going to be so crafty/buntingy. Was thinking about those radical cross-stitch patterns etc. And playing into/subverting the "mummykins" image that mumsnet sometimes has. So kind of Cath Kidston meets Andrew Dworkin. Totally get that this might not work though.

Consciousness Raising 2.0 is good but risks alienating all those who don't know what 2.0 means (i.e. all non-geeks, and I say that as someone who does know what it means :o).

An argument, Engelbert? I think everyone's too excited about the beautiful banner to argue. :)

Funny thread.

"Awaken the Breast"

"Liberty, Equality, Sisterhood"

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 11/03/2011 10:41

I'm not a geek! Um, but I do spend a lot of time online, which is where I got it.

Barry, when the internet stopped being about people just putting information out there and started being more interactive; so blogs with comment threads, forums, etc., such that the internet wasn't just passive entertainment anymore, people started calling it Web 2.0.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 11/03/2011 10:43

I didn't know that was what Web 2.0 meant! But for me 2.0 means an updated version of anything, which works.

I love Raising the Revolution - nice and snappy, and clever

The 2.0 thing is quite clever too but is it a bit wishy-washy?

steamedtreaclesponge · 11/03/2011 10:46

Mind you, my ideal slogan would be something like 'We Bathe in the Blood of the Patriarchy' which might be a bit full-on...

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 11/03/2011 10:51

'we keep our houses nice and clean by scrubbing them with the blood of the patriarchy'.

tones it down a bit, you see.

CaptainNancy · 11/03/2011 10:53

Surely it has to be "Mums, Nyet!"?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/03/2011 10:59

hahaha treacle & ssm :o

I know, I was toying with "Dear Patriarchy, we've got your children and we're turning them against you"

steamedtreaclesponge · 11/03/2011 11:42

Ooh, I like that one, it's sneaky!

How about:

We're eccentric
Not phallologocentric

LadyBiscuit · 11/03/2011 12:34

I really like Raising the Revolution

Lenin - loving that!

I also like Consciousness-raising 2.0 although I interpreted like SSM and didn't get the Web 2.0 reference (clearly not geeky enough!)

CaptainNancy · 11/03/2011 13:03

V good Lenin!
