Can we think of some questions to start us off too?

At the moment (p40) I'm interested in why Lucy tells us so little about herself and in that awful relationship between the child and the boy :(

Don't blame me for technology. I've turned into my mum. I can barely work this Internet m'thingumy.

Fil has a new kindle. He is now reading all the classics because they are free. :)

I haven't kept up with the original thread - is the next book decided yet so I can get started on that one?

I just looked on the other thread and lots of people me included haven't finished it.

Do we think we should postpone? I think it's more likely to be a success if we're all through it. What do we think? And if we vote to postpone then just by a week or so or postpone til next month? Doesn't stop us being here tomorrow to chat about where we are so far and express our irritation with the French bits

This is a bizarre way to get the information, but I tried a web search on one of the French sentences. It sent me to Google Books, where it showed an appendix from some old edition of the book, with all the French translated. But I can't figure out how to get to the start of that appendix except by going forward or back from the entry point. Which is OK, since the appendix is only a few pages long, but it's annoying. It was this (I tried Preview and it worked, but who knows):

books.google.com/books?id=42taAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA456&lpg=PA456&dq=%22mon+pere,+je+suis+protestante%22&source=bl&ots=ZdT8H4ZESi&sig=g6N3VLja11agRodxQvu0U0AJK_s&hl=en&ei=xZN2Tcz9E4Hf0gGo0OjfBg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CBYQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=%22mon%20pere%2C%20je%20suis%20protestante%22&f=false

Oh, and another week would be helpful.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 08/03/2011 20:57

Yes, I agree with another week - I have a note from my mum saying I've got a really busy week and a job interview first thing Thursday morning. Smile

I have read before many many years ago but need to reacquaint. I am loving what I am re-reading. It's quite perverse especially the Polly / Graham relationship and Madame Beck.

TeiTetua is it as annoying as saying 'oh I don't speak the language' at the beginning of the book and then writing half of the sodding thing in French?

Next week it is then. Let's see if Lucy can bring herself to like any of the other young females before then. :)
