Yes unashamedly a thread about a thread.

It is like entering the bloody twilight zone over there. Sad

Jeez there are MNers basically caring more about OP's husbands right to sex rather than believing OP and helping her.

Totally understand if this gets deleted for being a thread about a thread - but if it gets more of the feminist viewpoints onto that thread then great.

sleepypjs - don't go please!

Not all threads here are as infuriating!

You always go through the ringer on thread which get maxed out - i.e. go the full 1000.

OP posts:
tabouleh · 27/08/2010 23:52

Grace this thread called "Why don't they teach feminism in schools?".

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 28/08/2010 00:04

yeah please don't go, sleepy. Are you new on here? you have some great things to say. But if you feeel it's all a bit much then I understand.

you're not isolated though, loads of us on here feel the same, and not everyone has a good RL network.

sparky ISNT said "Rape needs to be demystified"

demystified = taking the myths away

so trying to remove all those false things and stories and ideas which are said about rape by people who have not experienced it

Click here for a list of rape myths.

sparky159 · 28/08/2010 00:32

sparky159 · 28/08/2010 00:47

we have all been sold out[and i believe this even tho im third gendered]
please stay.

chocolatestar · 28/08/2010 00:51

Sleepypjs I hope you are ok.

Wouldn't it be amazing if women were free to talk about their experiences of sexual violence without shame. It would make such a difference. Someone mentioned drama role play in a school. If anyone knows more about this please let me know as I would love to develop some work on this.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 28/08/2010 00:57

Sorry to hear about your daughter going through it too sparky :(:(:( It has to stop. Am going to start an action thread now, probably a ridiculous time of night to do it but I want ideas about how to solve problems rather than just observing them.

Tabouleh - we had almost all of those today. Shame we didn't know in advance or we could have played bingo.

action thread - very badly written as I am knackered - here

Sparky :( how is your daughter now?

arses · 28/08/2010 01:37

I had to stop reading hours ago, I kept clicking on 'last 15 mins' and seeing comments like: 'when a man puts his penis in a woman's vagina without her consent it is rape' again and again with no change on behalf of those making the other comments I just can't and won't engage with.

I don't understand why anyone would write what's been written here.

Sparky, you don't need long words. Or books. You are dead right, we all cry and bleed the same. You have it in one. I am so sorry for what's happening to you and your family.

I can't believe this thread. It has brought me lower than I ever thought a stupid online forum could.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 28/08/2010 01:55

Are you alright, arses? :(

Oh sparky, if you're living somewhere really scary is moving really not an option?

It's scary sometimes how the system almost invites us to be vigilantes and take the law into our own hands. I can't imagine how you feel seeing your daughter going through what you went through :( Did she report it to the police? Do you actually know who did it?

TBH I don't know what third gendered is but it sounds like you're living as a woman, is that right?

IfGraceAsks · 28/08/2010 05:13

I don't know what third gendered means in the UK. I lived in Brazil, where they have another word: travesti. It's not a particularly nice word when you think about it, but it's an accepted part of life there - which is an improvement on here! They get a lot of hassle tbh, but not like they would here. Any place you go, there's usually a few travestis around. They're very big in showbiz - including news presenters.

In the northern areas, where people are smaller, kids used to follow me around, arguing about whether I was a travesti! I'm only 5ft 8in, but clearly too big to be a woman in their opinion Grin

Sorry, that's a diversion. I was just thinking about what a nightmare life would be for a Brazilian travesti over here, Sparky, and wondering how the hell you manage. You sound angry. I'm not surprised.

And yours Prolesworth.

LadyBiscuit · 28/08/2010 08:56

I am glad to see this thread has reached some kind of consensus but very sad to read sleepypjs' posts and sparky - you poor love. My heart goes out to you, don't have the words x

I also would like to send support and strength to Anchor and hope that you are able to move to a better place.

I would really like to talk about the boundaries thing and what we were taught about sex by our parents so I'm going to start a new thread. Please come and share your thoughts/experiences

Me too Proles :(
Sorry x posted somehow

SassySusan · 28/08/2010 09:25

That's a good idea LB - I would be quite interested in that... even if I am only brave enough to lurk...

dittany Fri 27-Aug-10 22:57:38
But I'm not interested in academic discussion Sassy, I'm interested in feminist discussion.

Don't really want to start another bun-fight, but it does sort of feel like you're not interested in discussion at all! Rather than immediately expressing your outrage and disgust when somebody posts something you don't agree with, you could engage with the content and explain in a calm and measured way why you consider it to be so wrong - just an idea.

Elephants-
no-moving isnt a option-actually whats the point anyway-you cant run away from youreself
and theres problems anywhere ever anyone lives.its society thats got to change.
yep-it does make you feel like being a vigalante-lucky enough though-i do realise that two wrongs dont make a right.

yep-the police was involved-bloody useless.

grace-i used to be very angry-im not no more just really frustrated and very sad.

Prolesworth-im sorry to hear this x

its no good just trying to teach our children right from wrong-eg-respecting each other-if the rest aint.
we need to get to the root-but i dont know how we can do this.
