why do women collude in their own oppression?

Following the notorious Sebastian Horley thread, I feel utter despair at the way women defend their oppressors. Black people would never attend the funeral of someone who advocated cutting up black people with chainsaws, enslaving and raping them, so why do women? I'm not a fool, I know that society protects misogynists in a way it does not protect racists, but even so, why do women support women-haters in a way that Jews or black people (for example) do not? And how can we change this?

i didn't abuse her at all..she asked me for the money i gave it to her. she was a very nice woman..we talked as well believe it or not. But i guess you don't want to hear that do you, you would prefer the meatrack story.

my conscience doesn't prick me at all...because it doesn't need to. Should you view also apply to girls who sell kisses at charity fetes? Should i think oh god i did an intimate thing with her and money changed hands..the shame.
I am stating my opinion unapologeticaly too dittany..because i think there are things that need to be said too...ring any bells?

lifeinlimbo · 14/08/2010 17:30

We really see his true colours in his 16:47 post. How unpleasant. No wonder he resorts to prostitutes. This must be the reason he is interested in this thread - because he uses oppressed women himself. He does not contribute anything of value to the debate - please leave slightreturn.

Dittany your posts are insightful, interesting and strong! In every situation, it takes strength and power to fight for what is right. Some women are not yet in a position to that, so it is up to those who are.

lifeinlimbo..I don't resort to prostitutes now. I have used prostitutes, but many years ago now, and before you all scream 'it makes no difference how long ago it was!'..yeah ok!
I go back to my original posting on the other site, not all women in the sex business are forced into it, hopefully i wont have to repeat that yet again.
And dittany, you have mounted many personal attacks not only on me here but also on other topics on this site, on women who don't agree with your gung ho attitute or display a tad more tolerance than you.
And before you bludgeoned your way in i was actually engaged in a very interesting conversation with others on here.

Do you take your screen name from Dittany Of Crete..'miracle cure' plant?..not working right now is it.
I am able to read members posts on the other topics on this site dittany it's not rocket science you know.
I have no desire to make you feel unwelcome at all dittany but if you chose to post, then with that comes replies.

Sgt. Doug Lang, when head of the Vancouver police department's vice unit. "In talking to the women, I have never, never spoken to a prostitute who's said to me 'I enjoy what I do, so leave me alone.' "

What utter rubbish from SR.

SR, you can not justify that you abused a woman, by saying it was her choice. Utter rot.

Can we report his posts as a sexual abuser, he has admitted that he used prostitutes?

Is that enough to get you banned from mumsnet?

slightreturn · 14/08/2010 18:07

you believe what you like dittany, it's your right, ok.
I'm sure loads of happily married women have had moments where their partner has wanted sex and they haven't really wanted to, but have.
Thank god all those women don't start crying 'abuser'!..where would we be.
So maybe we should just agree to differ..yes?

nasdaq · 14/08/2010 18:11

Well done Dittany.

I agree with Dittany.

FallingWithStyle · 14/08/2010 18:17

Definitely with you Dittany.

slightreturn · 14/08/2010 18:21

I think you need to grow up a little...
So this is the score..
I am not allowed to express my opinion, is that correct? You are but i'm not..how bullyish is that!
nasdaq, if you think you can report me for having used a prostitute many years ago, you will also not only have to report the entire british army , air force and navy but also an enormous amount of civillian men and women too.
I joined mumsnet to comment on the Sebastian Horsley thread, i had just googled Sebastian Horsley and one of the pages was this one.
Scumbag now am i...how well you carry yourself verbally dittany.
No i am not interested in you at all, your views yes..but that's as far as it goes thank you!

lifeinlimbo · 14/08/2010 18:32

I agree with Dittany!

Yes anger is one good political tool. Raising awareness is very strong too, and can lead to anger when people realise the unfairness.
Ensuring equality is good (supporting equality and fighting inequality), and supporting other women is a very strong tool in allowing them not to collude in oppression.

ColdComfortFarm · 14/08/2010 18:34

Dittany some psychologists believe that most women who want relationships with convinced and imprisoned killers have a background of being abused, and may seek a relationship where they feel in control, where they can decide the contact etc and be safe. I suspect there is also the lure of fame. It is a bizarre phenomenon. Perhaps such men seem hyper-male in their violence, and we live in a society where women are taught to revere maleness, so for some it would seem natural to revere hyper-maleness even more?

I have also noticed that Dittany is being singled out for attack here - seen it before on other threads too -and I find it very distasteful.

Just read the thread and it was very interesting to start with. Shame about what's happening (now again).

in answer to the thread:

the same society that teaches men to devalue women, teaches women to devalue women.

i dislike the term 'uncle tom' because the Uncle Tom book was an anti slavery book.

also because it is a means of attack on moderates.
