Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

why do women collude in their own oppression?

Following the notorious Sebastian Horley thread, I feel utter despair at the way women defend their oppressors. Black people would never attend the funeral of someone who advocated cutting up black people with chainsaws, enslaving and raping them, so why do women? I'm not a fool, I know that society protects misogynists in a way it does not protect racists, but even so, why do women support women-haters in a way that Jews or black people (for example) do not? And how can we change this?

I seem to have got cut off. Gremlins

I think feminism is necessary because a lot of men will not give up advantage without being pressed.

I do not of course mean pressed with a hot iron. (Joke)
I heard germaine Greer say she did not think what she was advocating long ago has come to pass.

She told the then PM, Tony Blair, that he should "pay housewives." Tony smiled. He would, wouldn,t he?

Lenin, I think that is one of the best places to start,
I started a thread about it somewhere, but it got a lot of opposition because people were pointing out that it would ghetto women into the home again. That is one problem to be considered but I still think that mothers (or fathers) should receive a living wage for raising their own children.
CHildren are NOT a lifestyle choice; that's just something the capitalists say to avoid shelling out money to parents.

not really leningrad..you wanted the children, so in theory you should look after them for free? otherwise having kids is a career move ,..well thats happening anyway isnt it really..with young girls popping kids out for the child benefit etc..also paying minders in turn massages the jobless figures.

FallingWithStyle · 14/08/2010 15:49

Quite Dittany.
I'd say that a fair amount of restraint is present on this thread.
And in return are 'jokes' and 'lols' at the expense of one of us. It's quite an ugly site.

Its slightreturn who keeps referring to radical feminists. I think its pertinent to understand his definition of what one is.

"militant minded women who tend to bitch about a patriachal society, endlessly whining about inequality etc etc etc....is that enough..?"

FallingWithStyle · 14/08/2010 16:06

...and actually I think that relates back to the original question.
Women often collude in their own oppression because they are railroaded into thinking that feminism about something other than equality. That its something extreme and unreasonable.

Men experienced with prostitutes can not deny the connection between what they do and trafficked women.

AS a buyer of sex, you are the ultimate perpetrator. Now if that does not quite sit right, well you try say that you caring towards the victim and other complete bullshit.

Men who go to prostitutes do not want an equal, sharing relationship.

They do not want to be nice.

They do not want to ask.

They like the power involved in buying a human being who can be made to do almost anything.

I am not surprised that SR can not ever imagine an equal world.

PosieParker · 14/08/2010 16:34

What is a radical feminist? Is that like a radical race equality ambassador? Or someone radically against discrimination of people with disabilities.

And why is being a feminist, radical or otherwise, going to do anything within an equal relationship?

Hearing one of the contributors on this thread uses prostitutes it reminds me of one such idiot I met in a bar in China. He seriously believed that the prostitute he'd used in Thailand thoroughly enjoyed her job and especially him as she gave him an afternoon for free and obviously enjoyed the sex. It didn't occur to him that if she had lay there emotionless and hadn't offered him a freebie he would not have used her for a further two days. How arrogant.

slightreturn · 14/08/2010 16:47

dittany ..if i do as you put it single you out..it is because you come across as self opinionated, agressive, jaded man hating woman.
And all your posts have that slant,..i dont care what your opinion is of me in the slightest..ok.
Its strange isnt it how if a conversation on here gets a little less agressive and confrontational.. ..in you come and wind it up again with your radical man hating garbage.
Save it for your rad fem coffee Mornings ...

FallingWithStyle · 14/08/2010 16:55

How strange that you don't think it appropriate to discuss these things in a topic called Feminism/women's rights.
And I would reiterate the very valid point made earlier by another poster that it is quite uncomfortable to have a man here judging the quality or worth of contributions within this topic.

nasdaq · 14/08/2010 16:56

Hang on SR have you forgotten your posts you were actively encouraging Dittany to come on.

You come across as a prostitution endorsing self opinionated women hater.

stop going on the defensive..i judge nobody, in truth i'm just expressing my point of view thats all. I know i am a man, does that negate my right to have a point of view here?
my points have been judged here by women so if you can dish it ..then learn to take it as well..only fair after all..isnt it?

you really are laughable!
as i said , think what you like of me, i could care. I have right to express my opinion as you do yours, i do not hate women at all never have, never will.
Your own words show exactly how you think dittany, every time you open your mouth, all that emerges is hateful claptrap. everything you say is edged with it, my only guess is that you are so lost inside it you no longer see.
Women with your atittude and general agressiveness will achieve nothing for the cause you supposedly support.
Indeed there are women on here who do not agree with your stance at all, but you are entitled to your opinion and of course have the right to express it where you choose.
