What should your vagina look like?

I don’t know who on earth I can ask
this to but I’m worried my vagina isn’t normal.

So if I look with a mirror , I have the labia bit and then inside is pink fleshy bit with ridges in it. It’s not a black hole. It’s like a pink squishy thing covering the whole area with ridges in. It’s not popping out or outside the labia lip bit. It’s inside- is this what it’s meant to look like? I never looked before and have since had 2 children.

Please help I feel weird . I will attach a picture I found on the internet. So sorry for this weird question.

The correct terminology is vaginal entrance, not the vagina which is internal.

It's very possibly hymen tissue.

There are lips at the entrance to the vagina (unless yours is different?) so vaginal lips is accurate. And a widely used description.

Really? After two children? And likely a good deal of sex?

Is this what you mean? If so, you might have a prolapse.

Yeah you open your legs and use a mirror?! Im not using a camera inside it 😂

You're looking at your vulva. The externally-visible part is called vulva. Your vagina is where tampons and dildos go.

But she’s talking about the hole though, the vaginal opening.

Veryoldandtired · 31/10/2024 23:55

I’m sorry I haven’t read the whole thread. But from what you describe it could be either normal or slight prolapse. Prolapse can be very mild and may not disturb you but you will need to work on those Kegels!!

I too think possible pelvic floor prolapse. It could be your uterus you are seeing your bladder or recital wall. As best I can describe it is a “pink bubble” in the opening. Exactly where you would insert a tampon. Caused by age childbirth constipation . All so commonly experienced by women. It’s not a medical emergency but I recommend seeing a gynecologist preferably one with pelvic floor disorder specialty. Google pessary…a common treatment. You may also benefit from pelvic floor physical therapy. Good on you for looking and asking. I got right on the phone and called my cousin and said …I think my uterus is trying to fall out of my vagina!

That's the vaginal introitus, not the vagina proper.

I am grateful to the posters who named the rugae.

Look at the vulva gallery on Instagram

The vulva isn’t the vagina.

I was assuming she thinks her actual vaginal is popping out of the vaginal introitus though, a la vaginal prolapse.

BobbyBiscuits · 01/11/2024 00:04

I've not looked in detail but I've never seen a black hole in my vaginal opening, the skin is pink and somewhat ridged/not smooth, seems very similar to that picture I guess.
It's only if something feels or looks different all of a sudden or over time you should see a doctor. But you should go for a smear ideally anyway. Labia are all different sizes, and the interior of the vaginal canal isn't really visible unless you're a doctor/nurse or sexual partner. So as long as it works then I wouldn't worry.
If you feel lumps/pain or have irregular bleeding then do obviously see a medic.

When you say cunt, which part of the cunt are you actually referring to?

I have a rectocele, a type of prolapse and it is as you describe.
Went to a physio after my DD was born and she said many people have them, but don't cause them issues so they don't require pessaries or surgery. She did teach me some 'splinting' I could do to make going to the loo easier though.
If it's not causing you any issues, you probably don't even need to go to the GP, apart from for reassurance that it's nothing else.
For those saying anything weird would be picked up a smear, I asked the nurse about whether rectoceles make smears more difficult and she had no idea what I was talking about. Some nurses are woefully out of date.

Lammveg · 01/11/2024 00:20

It's normal - the vagina is 'closed' normally. After a vaginal birth, your labia minora can sit slightly further apart so it looks more obvious. I know this because I had the exact same thoughts after I gave birth and went to see the GP about it lol.

There could be a prolapse there but you'd need a proper examination for that to be decided.

Teanbiscuits33 · 01/11/2024 00:24

I wouldn’t personally know because I’ve never looked that closely at mine (Why are you looking that closely?) but I’ve been told mine has ridges and that they feel good! I think it’s normal and they are supposed to be there for pleasure enhancement, perhaps?

Lucy25 · 01/11/2024 00:44

@SomeSuperhero 😂

EconomyClassRockstar · 01/11/2024 00:45

After 4 kids, I'm presuming mine looks like someone has been massacred in there, but it feels fine to me so I'm all good.

SnowFrogJelly · 01/11/2024 01:01

They're all different

Pink and squishy with ridges is what it looks like, not a black hole. .. that’s normal.
