What should your vagina look like?

Lalaminilala · 31/10/2024 22:05

I don’t know who on earth I can ask
this to but I’m worried my vagina isn’t normal.

So if I look with a mirror , I have the labia bit and then inside is pink fleshy bit with ridges in it. It’s not a black hole. It’s like a pink squishy thing covering the whole area with ridges in. It’s not popping out or outside the labia lip bit. It’s inside- is this what it’s meant to look like? I never looked before and have since had 2 children.

Please help I feel weird . I will attach a picture I found on the internet. So sorry for this weird question.

A mixture of poor eye sight and lack of flexibility means never seen it.

And I get irritated with the misuse of the word vagina.

Omg! That was very detailed.

Bigcitykitty · 31/10/2024 22:45

I think this is common after babies, probably a slight prolapse but don’t be shy to get it checked out if you feel it’s significant.

She means the vagina though. The opening of the canal.

She's not wrong.

nottaotter · 31/10/2024 22:49

Sounds normal to me, have you had a recent smear? You could mention your concerns at your next one.

@soupfiend she is talking about the vagina though.

Why? I am referring to my vagina - I am correct

Thanks - I think it might be a slight prolapse after I’ve googled it. It’s just very ‘there’ 😂 it’s hard to describe. As long as it doesn’t fall out any more I’m good but I think having 2 long labours and heavy babies may be why . It just seems low down and not happy 😅 I appreciate this is a very odd conversation on a Thursday night .

You probably don’t OP. I’m sure it’s normal. And if not, you’d soon be told when giving birth or having a smear!

rugae?

"pink fleshy bit with ridges in it." The ridges would be the vaginal rugae.

Yes! Thank you - this is what it is. And it’s say low - as soon as I open my lip area it’s right there ! I can now google using this word and it’s helping me get what I’m after - thank you ☺️

It's our vaginal opening. The entrance is closed. Glad I found that! Lol

If your fanny looks this pinky perfect .... you've got to be under 30 and likely childless

Onehappymam · 31/10/2024 23:02

I know exactly what you mean.

If you bare down it’s more visible. Mine’s always been like this, even pre-kids. Completely normal. If it wasn’t it would be picked up on a smear.

ChaosHol1 · 31/10/2024 23:02

Get doing your kegel exercises and see if it has improved in a couple of months or you could visit the nurse at your surgery just for a check up if you are concerned.

ShinyPebble32 · 31/10/2024 23:04

Go for a smear test! Then you can ask the person carrying out the test if there’s anything that looks unusual. It’s hard to say from your description/pic - they all look like that inside, but that’s generally not visible unless you’re opened up with a speculum.

I think I know what you're on about, and I think mine is the same.

No idea if it's meant to look like that or not. I've got an absolutely terrible looking vagina so I do my best not to look at it anymore!!

I bet you haven't. I think mine looks gross these days, but my DH can't get enough of it - so can't be that bad.

(The limited amount of) porn I've seen has definitely affected my confidence with the whole area. Bleached bumholes included....or not!

I try not to think about it since the episiotomy I had with DC1, especially since my GP kindly described it as barbaric at my 6 week post birth check-up.

Miyagi99 · 31/10/2024 23:12

Sounds like nothing to worry about but I would go to a GP or maybe a nurse ;one that does smears) just to check it out and for reassurance.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 31/10/2024 23:20

Look at the vulva gallery on Instagram

ChickpeaPie · 31/10/2024 23:22

Sounds very much like the rugae of the vaginal wall you are seeing, I'd assume you have a slight prolapse.
Btw, vagina is the internal genitalia so you don't have vaginal lips... I hope 😅

Hmm, it is possible to be pinky perfect and be over 30.It does depend on how many children you’ve had though.

They can be referred to as that - ‘The vaginal lips, also known as the labia, are the external female genitalia and are made up of the labia minora and labia majora’

Hey 😊it’s likely this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaginal_rugae#:~:text=Vaginal%20rugae%20are%20structures%20of,and%20prolapse%20of%20pelvic%20structures.
I was same as you…had a look one day for some reason and saw the fleshy bit etc…could not find anything on google etc and was so upset by it I paid to see a private gynae and within 2 min he said it’s this! All normal 😊

girljulian · 31/10/2024 23:36

I'm sure it's normal!

My vulva is very "neat" but I'm aware that a lot of other women's are very different and it's all lovely. I am bisexual and have seen lots of vulvas and mine is I think unusually contained.
