WTH fell out of my vagina? (gross photo)

Seriously baffled.

Period due to start around Monday. Had some moderate cramps for about twenty minutes, took some ibuprofen. Problem solved.

About two hours later felt a weird sensation and this monstrosity slipped out. No pain.

Measures about 1.5" across and 3/4" wide and high. It looked mucousy to me but DH decide to cut into it (ew) and it's fleshy. It's not possible it is embryonic tissue.

Is it a decidual cast? It doesn't quite look like the ones on Google and there wasn't really any blood.

It doesn't seem large enough to me? It's only 1.5" long.

I'm so confused!

Mine was about the same size! Definitely a DC

Wrong thread. I've ask MN to move you over

I was in my 20s, living in a new city on my own and a long way from home. New job, stressed, didn't know anyone and it was in the days before the internet and googling and talk about vaginas and uteruses. One day a lumpy bloody thing landed in my knickers — mine was more red and bloody than yours, OP, with two long wing things. I was horrified but didn't know what to do so wrapped it in loo paper, put it in a jar in the fridge and went to the doctors the next day carrying it in a paper bag and convinced I was going to die. He poked it, laughed and said it was nothing to worry about and perfectly natural. But he didn't give it a name and it wasn't until about 10 years ago here on MN that I first encountered decimal casts.

Rtmhwales · 01/07/2023 19:55

That's my thought process, too. On Google they appear to be red, bloody and the size of your palm.

This is smaller albeit large enough to be startling falling out of your body. Only a little bit of blood and none when it passed.

The mystery continues.

Mine was greyish with hardly any blood. It fell out in the shower!

I used to get these when my hormones weren't quite right. Thickening womb lining, no period, then it would all fall off at once. If you are having IVF I'd suggest that is what has caused it.

My last IVF appointment was in December, which resulted in a rare monochorionic monoamniotic twin pregnancy which was lost late second trimester unfortunately. So I don't think it's the IVF hormones as I haven't had any in 7 months.

I don't know what the black ring is but on a practical note , put something that you can measure for scale (ruler if you have one handy or a £1 coin ) in the picture .Then when you show them they can gauge it

It's DH's wedding band Grin

I've thrown it away but it measured 1.5" across and 3/4" wide and 3/4" thick.

Hello.
That must be quite scary!
Could it be a lost tampax that's been up there for yonks, didn't cause you any harm and worked it's way out?
If you've had babies with all the horrid stiching type situation it might be that.
Ask to see the nurse at your local doctors and take said strange thing.
If you don't feel pain I can't believe it's that dangerous.
Good luck

It's not a tampon as I haven't used any for over a year. Ditto stitches as none needed due to the very small infant size.

Still at a loss. Probably a weird decidual cast based on other posters' answers.

Hi OP. I had a very large polyp called a fibroepitheral polyp down there I needed removing, some can come off the cervix they aren't as common as normal polyps and different looking it could be one of those, I also agree fibroids can come out too and you can grow them on your cervix too cervical fibroids not common but it does happen big hugs xxxx

Mummadeze · 01/07/2023 21:16

I had this happen and it looked the same and it turned out to be a tampon that had somehow been inside me for two weeks and had morphed into that. It gave me such a shock. I

BankBanque · 01/07/2023 21:17

If fleshy then yeah, decidual cast. If not, then a tampon? Or fibroid, but I'd expect that to be more bloody.

Rtmhwales · 01/07/2023 20:13

It can't be a miscarriage or embryonic tissue.

I suffer from recurrent miscarriages so that would naturally be my first thought. Sorry you've also suffered through that.

Unfortunately I had my twins stillborn in April so was monitored extensively for the month after that and had no retained tissue. Last month I have a horrific postpartum period with massive clots. All pregnancy tests have been negative throughout too and I have a weekly HCG blood test.

I shed something like this after having my first baby, I'm wondering if this could have been something retained from your twins stillbirth? The hospital also told me there was no retained tissue, yet out it popped. They can and do miss things.

katepilar · 01/07/2023 21:24

I also had to google decidual cast as I have never heard it before or seen one before.
But I know that pieces of uterus lining are fleshy, if they are big enough and fresh enough (old pieces are more of a dust or paste like in texture)

AmenAmin · 01/07/2023 21:27

All I know is an identical looking thing happened to me once 🤷‍♀️

JayAlfredPrufrock · 01/07/2023 21:30

Well colour me stupid.

I avoided opening this thread as I’m squeamish but gave in and now I’ve googled and I’ve learnt something.

Every day’s a school day.

Beseen22 · 01/07/2023 21:34

My friends sister had a miscarriage at around 12w. She had negative tests and US after the tissue had passed and got her period back. About 6 months after all this she passed something similar and then the next month she got pregnant again. So maybe some retained tissue but not sufficient to trigger a pregnancy test or stop periods but enough to stop her getting pregnant.

Tinysoxx · 01/07/2023 21:35

Sorry about your losses.

Since this is an honest, yet graphic thread (and everyone seems sensible) I will tell you my weird story in case it helps. I suddenly got hot and cold sweats, nausea and contractions and the urge to push and something came out. Size of a big plum and fleshy. It was browny purple and firm like a kidney. We were told to put it in salty water in the fridge and bring it in the next day for inspection. It felt a bit surreal trying to find a suitable container and shaking the salt pot over it. They ummed and ahhed and said it was ‘products of conception’ after a previous miscarriage and I should be ‘clear’ now. And I passed nothing else. After 3 periods I was pregnant again so no lasting problems. I thought you may want to know that and hope you have a successful pregnancy very soon.

I thought your photo looks a bit like a tampon/ surgical wadding you’ve forgotten so it was good you examined it to check and it doesn’t smell. Is it worth keeping it to show your doctors?

I'm sorry for your loss

The changes in your body following this event may have caused a similar effect.

toads912 · 01/07/2023 21:42

ive had a decidual cast before and it was not that texture at all! It more like a small piece of uncooked bacon in texture and shape if I had to describe it, and there was certainly more blood. Hopefully your doctor will be able to shed light on it, and you’re feeling ok❤️

So sorry to hear this especially as you see that far along, hopefully it means next time all will go well.

Thank you for educating us, I’m in my fifties and never knew that. I believe I may have had one but just took no notice. I did go for a smear test a couple of years ago and discover I’d left a tampax in. I was amazed it hadn’t gone rotten. Mortifying of course. After the Covid vaccine I got some bleeding despite being thru the menopause. Because nobody in the media were allowed to write anything negative I only found out later I wasn’t the only one. It made me worry about younger women’s fertility.

Twinsmummy1812 · 01/07/2023 21:50

Well I had never heard of DCs and kind of wish I hadn’t googled them, although equally fascinated!

Your DH is a legend though. Mine would have been horrified and run a mile (but I am way more gross than him)

Ohdofuckofdear · 01/07/2023 21:53

I'm so sorry about your twins OP.

I lost some retained products in the April(this was years ago)and I'd given birth in the previous September and I'd had to have a massive operation after a natural birth because nearly the whole of the placenta was retained so sadly you can still have retained products quite a while after, it's quite rare thankfully but I do know one other person,a friend that had the same thing happen as me.

GraysPapaya · 01/07/2023 21:58

I’m sorry to hear about your twins Op.

I don’t know if this will help, I’m not medically trained. But my missed miscarriage looked like this, it reminded me of a gyoza you get in Yo sushi (sorry to describe it like this, I was devastated at the time).

You've had lots of great advice, and it’s great to see women talking openly about these issues, this thread has really helped me to be honest! I’ve learnt a lot.
