Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers ( book group) , and next whatever book group decides

QueenGina · 10/04/2008 18:55

Just finished On Chesil Beach and am in reading limbo.
Watching this thread in hope of inspiration for what to read next.
BTW - loved Chesil Beach, but not as much as Atonement and yearning to read something as beautifully crafted as the these two novels.

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/04/2008 18:55

is the Paulo Coelho as crap as The Alchemist btw ?

QueenGina · 10/04/2008 18:56

What's Chinese-English Dictionary like? It's sitting on my shelf and I'm wondering if I should pick it up.

Wheelybug · 10/04/2008 18:57

MAS - Its very Paulo Coelho... make of that what you will . I can't remember the Alchemist too well although did read it twice and I preferred it the second time. I have also read another one. All for different book clubs !

captainmummy · 10/04/2008 19:01

I'm reading the ninth (I think) harry dresden book by jim butcher. Not high-brow but lots of vampires/fairies/monsters in it. And funny.

HonorMatopoeia · 10/04/2008 19:01

Now - Kate Mosse Labyrinth - not sure what i make of it yet,
Next - Some crappy Mills and Boon probably!

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/04/2008 19:02

ladymariner · 10/04/2008 19:08

I've just read The Pursuit of Happiness, it was fab!

MuffinMclay · 10/04/2008 19:13

Agent Zigzag- Ben Macintyre. Very good indeed but I only manage 3 pages a night before falling asleep so it is taking me ages to read it.

Next will be Iain Banks - Steep Approach to Garbadale

poodlepusher · 10/04/2008 19:16

Am reading 'Clouds of Witness' Dorothy L Sayers

Next - dunno

sillyhead · 10/04/2008 22:40

MAS, I just finished Notes From an Exhibition, Patrick Gale and really enjoyed it, would highly recommend it. His writing just carries you along and every single family member in that story is interesting.
Now reading One Good Turn by Kate Atkinson.
Next - ?as i have about 30 unread novels lying around. Maybe Restless William Boyd. Anyone read it?

PABLOP · 10/04/2008 22:41

The Bronze Horsman now and The Book Thief next

Lilymaid · 10/04/2008 22:47

Just read Labyrinth by Kate Mosse - so awful that it is fascinating to go through it to check out the inaccuracies, corny writing etc. Have also recently read Mr Pip (which was a good read) and have Chesil Beach on the pile of to be reads.

brimfull · 10/04/2008 23:18

wheelybug- mister pip is quiet good I'm enjoying it.
