So the man who often sits opposite me on the train seems to be reading Classic Novels in alphabetical order. Who wants to guess what he's going to read next?

So I have only noticed this recently... I have seen him read

Frankenstein
Great Gatsby
Heart of Darkness
The Importance of Being Earnest
Jane Eyre
Kim

so what do you think will be for L? M?

Love in a cold climate? (Is that classic enough?)

Little Women?

Lolita
Madame Bovary

FrannyandZooey · 27/03/2008 20:27

I am stuck for L
Madame Bovary or Middlemarch for M

foxinsocks · 27/03/2008 20:27

oh very good. You are far better at this than me. I couldn't come up with any Ms.

artichokes · 27/03/2008 20:28

x posts
need a more original L

Lord of the Flies?

ahundredtimes · 27/03/2008 20:28

I am interested in him reading The Importance of Being Earnest. That's quite random isn't it?

Did he enjoy Jane Eyre?

How old is he?

I think he'll read The Leopard and The Moonstone next.

Thomcat · 27/03/2008 20:28

Little Women.

Love the fact that a) he might be doing this and what a great idea, think i might do it too and b) love that you have noticed and a load of women on a website are discussing him and his reading material

LittleBella · 27/03/2008 20:29

Or Mr Norris changes trains

Then followed by Northanger Abbey

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 20:29

wordsworth's Lyrical Ballads

bit o portry

foxinsocks · 27/03/2008 20:30

He's similarish age to me. Would say late 30s. He is really enjoying Kim. Smiles a lot while reading it and gets it out AS SOON as he sits down and closes it at the last minute so he can dash out the door at Vauxhall. It's quite endearing.

little women
Mansfield Park

ahundredtimes · 27/03/2008 20:31

Did he hate Frankenstein? I bet he was disappointed.

GColdtimer · 27/03/2008 20:31

Mill on the Floss?

Could only think of Little women or Lady Chatterley's lover.

foxinsocks · 27/03/2008 20:31

oh good call Little Women. Hmmm I wonder. I'm not sure he'll want to read Lolita but wonder if he will think Little Women too female for him hmm.

he didn't like Frankenstein at all. Lots of looking up from the book and round the carriage and fidgeting and crossing of legs. I think he struggled to finish it tbh. Looked relieved to have moved on from it.

controlfreakyagain · 27/03/2008 20:33

Lohengrin
little dorrit
little house on the prairie

mill on the floss
mrs oliphant
maurice
man or superman
(of) mice and men

MrsJohnCusack · 27/03/2008 20:33

oh yes Lady Chatterley's Lover

I really like the sound of him for some reason!

ahundredtimes · 27/03/2008 20:33

I think he'll read The Leopard, and really regret that one too.

LittleBella · 27/03/2008 20:35

Fancy not liking Frankenstein and liking Kim, I'm beginning to disapprove of him...

foxinsocks · 27/03/2008 20:35

I haven't heard of The Leopard. I will have to watch for signs of disappointment. He always starts every book looking so eager too and forces himself to finish them. I'd give up I think. I admire his staying power.

Marvellous. (Don't believe you though.)
However.

Lady C's Lover is a v good one - would he dare, though? He hasn't been exactly outré so far.
Lolita? - similar problem
Lady Windermere's Fan - he's done Wilde
got it! - Le Grand Meaulnes

M - Moby Dick. Or Metamorphosis

foxinsocks · 27/03/2008 20:37

He is! Honestly! Why on earth would I fabricate something like this ffs! I was v excited when I figured out what he was doing.

I hate commuting with such a bloody passion, I'm absolutely delighted to have found something that takes my attention away from a horrid journey!
