So the man who often sits opposite me on the train seems to be reading Classic Novels in alphabetical order. Who wants to guess what he's going to read next?

aefondkiss · 27/03/2008 21:41

I think it will be Lolita if it is going to be a classic... Love in the time of Cholera seems to recent to be a classic yet?

I like this thread, glad your commute has some points of interest fox in socks!

He would make a good character in a book Mr Alphabetical.

then moby dick....?

Swedes · 27/03/2008 22:08

Take all your L books on the train on Monday. When he reveals the book you get the same from your stash. Start reading and then look over. He'll think it's meant to be. He'll make eyes at you. You'll raise an eyebrow in literary recognition. He'll stand up to come towards you. You'll realise he's 5' 1" .....

Whata brilliant idea. Love in a cold climate, Mansfield Park. What was his A,B,C,D and E? Can you remember?

Doobydoo · 28/03/2008 20:55

Please tell us what he reads next.I NEED to know

aefondkiss · 28/03/2008 21:50

and tell him I will post the P title to him...

[The] Private Memoirs and Confessions of A Justified Sinner by James Hogg

if anyone likes a classic then they should read this, it will wipe the floor with all other classics imho, it was published in 1824.

bozza · 28/03/2008 22:07

I love this. How far through Kim is he? I decided to set myself a challenge. Do you remember that BBC top 100 books series a few years back? Where it was full of Harry Potters etc? Well I decided I would read all of them. I have read quite a few (including War and Peace, phew) so I have just ticked those off. I am currently on Tess of the D'Urbervilles. The last Thomas Hardy I read was for GCSE and was the Mayor of Casterbridge only 21 years ago!

What about the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for a bit of easy going?

Bumperlicious · 30/03/2008 09:33

Ok, I told DH about this last night and he is very excited and has written a list to do it himself!

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 30/03/2008 09:48

I dare you to ask him & then report back to us.

aefondkiss · 30/03/2008 22:45

I think we should all write a list - the only thing is I don't commute being sahm, so it isn't quite the same!

Tinkerisdead · 31/03/2008 13:50

ohh bozza, wuick hijack - i too am working my way through the top 100! some have been really hard to get into though, im reading them just to tick them off. currently reading a prayer for owen meany..

TwoFirTreesToday · 31/03/2008 15:13

Lorna Doone and Middlemarch

SixSpotBurnet · 31/03/2008 15:18

foxinsocks, you should start at Z, although I can only think of Thus Spake Zarathustra off the top of my head, and work backwards through the alphabet

EffiePerine · 31/03/2008 15:20

Zuleika Dobson

SixSpotBurnet · 31/03/2008 15:20

Oh yes much better idea!

EffiePerine · 31/03/2008 15:21
SixSpotBurnet · 31/03/2008 15:30

I can only think of The Young Visiters and I don't know if that counts as a classic.

For U you have to read Ulysses .

EffiePerine · 31/03/2008 15:32

have never read that, but it's supposed to be good - would you recommend it?

EffiePerine · 31/03/2008 15:33

(young visiters that is, I have read Ulysees - well, some of it )
