Embarrassed how excited I am. So in love with the flawed Nelson too. But maybe my favourite part is the landscape.

Absolutely can’t wait for it either. Love North Norfolk and I love hearing about the towns I’ve been too in the book. Am gutted that this is going to be the last one for quite a while.

DisforDarkChocolate · 27/01/2023 18:54

I'm not buying another one until I'm sure she isn't going to shag Nelson anymore, get some respect!

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 27/01/2023 19:00

She definitely will shag Nelson. That woman can count her shags for the last 11 years on two hands. That is sliiiiim pickings. At least Nelson is a definite score.

Motorcyclemptiness · 27/01/2023 20:36

ooh - thanks for the reminder!

Helenloveslee4eva · 27/01/2023 20:37

Yeeehaaa !

museumum · 27/01/2023 20:41

Awesome!
I love them but they’re soooo easy to read they just don’t last long enough.

Why is it going to be the last one?

BookishZen · 28/01/2023 08:13

@Clawdy I read this interview with Elly Griffiths and she says that this will be the last one for now so I don’t know when she’ll come back to it but it seems like not for a little while unfortunately.

Ah, right, thanks. Looks as if the next book may bring the story to a conclusion, then. Interesting!

Cheguevarahamster · 28/01/2023 10:56

Cant wait!

hoochyhag · 28/01/2023 17:15

Ooo! Didn't know about this 😯 The last remains? Great stuff.

FuzzyPuffling · 29/01/2023 15:50

DH ordered it for my birthday. Since this is the last one, he's going to be stuck for birthday presents from now on!

(I'm enjoying "Bleeding Heart Yard" though. I hope Elly continues with Harbinder. )

hiredandsqueak · 29/01/2023 16:05

Have pre ordered also looking forward to the next Stuart Macbride out February 16th

Ooh, don't know Stuart McBride. Will go and research now. Anything is better than tidying!

If you haven't tried the Brighton mysteries, do. Let yourself slip into the unlikely world and it works. Characters, plots, setting again fabulous... Not flawless but so much better than most predictable fare

Here's an existing thread about Elly and Ruth:
www.mumsnet.com/talk/what_were_reading/4259266-Elly-Griffiths-Ruth-Galloway-novels-possible-spoilers

As I say on the other thread, my copy of The Last Remains arrived today. I don't usually get new books so quickly, but had a voucher to spend and couldn't resist ordering it. I'm just about to finish Noel Fitzpatrick's latest, Beyond Supervet - very good, interesting, thought-provoking and moving - and then I'll start it.

I feel quite reluctant to start it, it being the last one.

scarecrow22 · 03/02/2023 10:29

It's tomorowwwww! Can't decide whether to binge read (maybe my DC could go into care for a day?), or eek out.....

Have you read Five Decembers by James Kestrel? His first I think. Sort of crossover to quality general fiction as murder-light. Addictive, fascinating, flawed by v likeable characters. Massively recommend.

Next Terry Hayes due March (if it's not delayed again).

For gen crime writers Michael Connelly my favourite.

I have just finished Tbe Last Remains
No spoilers from me, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I picture Nicola Walker in my head when I read Dr Ruth & would love there to be an adaptation of any of the stories.

Annasgirl · 04/02/2023 15:22

How did I now know this? I came into this section to discuss my latest read, then I saw this thread and I’ve just downloaded the book. I’m going to wait until I finish my current book but I might still get to enjoy it this weekend- we have a bank holiday here on Monday so it couldn’t have arrived at a better time.

virginqueen · 04/02/2023 16:30

I've just finished it too ! Well up to the usual standard. I live in Norfolk and often discover new places through her books. She should bring out
"Elly Griffiths' Norfolk" like Phil Rickman has with Herefordshire/Wales

Violinist64 · 04/02/2023 16:40

I treated myself to it in Waterstones on Tuesday - it was a signed copy and £3 off the rrp. When l arrived home, I found an Amazon package on my doorstep. I had completely forgotten that I had pre-ordered the book. I gave the second copy to my mother as an early birthday present as she loves this series too. I have started it and, as always, it is a wrench to have to put it down for work or necessary household chores.

SaltMarsh · 05/02/2023 14:48

No spoilers from me, but I loved Elly's use of 'truffling' on page 7! I'm only on Chapter 7 as I had another book to finish when this arrived on Tuesday. Unfortunately I don't get as much time to read as I would like - usually just a few minutes at bedtime before I zonk out - and I want to take this one a bit more slowly, it being the last. sobs

I would love Nicola Walker in an adaptation (I love her in everything). She's not what I see in my head - that's Ruth Jones from about 20 years ago - but I can imagine it working.

hiredandsqueak · 06/02/2023 13:58

I really enjoyed it as well, sad that it's the last one though, like saying goodbye to an old friend.
