Don't post here if you don't want to know who dies and what happens.

You've been warned.

yes Rosylily, for me, Lupin just pipped it, but it was so moving. The idea that he wanted to look into Lily's eyes one last time before he died..

fawkeoff · 24/07/2007 16:17

i think it was supposed to be like that.......i think lupin and tonk'sdeath was supposed to be as much of a shock to as it was to harry. i was sobbing uncontrolably when it became apparent that harry had to die.......for about half an hour, sad i know.

fawkeoff · 24/07/2007 16:19

and i think kreacher is fab!!!!!!, but was really sad about dobby

tigerschick · 24/07/2007 16:21

You want sad, hey? I was in tears, but they were happy, proud kind of tears, pretty much all the way thru the battle, especially when anything heroic by someone unexpected happened - like Neville, or when the House Elves came out to join the fray. I'm so glad dh was a work. I was getting all choked when I was telling him about it and he was looking at me like I'd lost it then! Imagine what he'd have thought if he'd see me with tears streaming down my face!!

fawkeoff · 24/07/2007 16:25

dp actually caught me crying i got "ur crying.......over a book...sad" i was all u dont understand sniffling,he was giving me strange looks

tigerschick · 24/07/2007 16:29

I'm so glad it's not just me who has a dh/p who doesn't get this whole thing
He will watch the films, like he will watch kids tv if dd is watching it - but not from choice!!

ThestralFeet · 24/07/2007 16:33

I told dh that I was going to collect the book at 12am

He called me a mentalist

He has absolutely no interest whatsoever.

tigerschick · 24/07/2007 16:33

BTW - if there is anything you are not sure about from the story - anything you didn't follow or understand - have a look on wikipedia. There is an amazing amount of information up there already.

my dh not much of a fiction reader and has never read the HP books, so I am feeling a bit isolated at the mo!

can you imagine how good the last film is going to be when Alan Rickman dies and wants to look into Lily's eyes again....

Pixiefish · 24/07/2007 16:36

I managed to get it finsihed this morning. I cried buckets when H was going to face V in the forest and his mum and dad were there and he was scared

BellaBear · 24/07/2007 16:42

I've just reread the first book, wow they are different - Philosopher's Stone much slicker, much better edited perhaps? As far as I could work out nothing extra to be found from having read the rest of the series. On to the second then!

(Plus PS feels much more like a children's book than the last three, which is of course what they all are!)

persephonesnape · 24/07/2007 17:33

I wasn't so sad at snapes death, just shocked. there had been so many false starts for people dying ( was sure hermione would cop it when she was being crucitused) that i had to read everything from chapter 32 onwards twice. I did think Sev was just too clever to get caught out, although he does keep going on about 'let me bring you the boy, dark lord''. He knows something is up, he's trying to get out.

the line that gets me is when DD says, ' you don't want people to know the best of you' to severus. his whole life loving someone, looking out for her son who reminds him of someone who bullied him at school...all those horrible little children going on about his greasy hair - he just didn't care what he looked like...he just wanted Lily.

great tragic literary hero!

Dumbledior · 24/07/2007 17:43

I was really touched when Harry said to Albus that he was also named after the bravest man he had ever known (Albus Severus) - that brought a lump to my throat.

I'm so sad - I was grinning away when I finished the book. It was so good.

DobbyMOO · 24/07/2007 17:57

Victoire is definitely a girl - it refers to Teddy snogging her.

FillydoraTonks · 24/07/2007 18:03

book interesting

dp bought us two copies, and we'd both finished them by 4am

I feel rather bereft now

Pixiefish · 24/07/2007 18:04

i know what you mean Filly. It took me a few days to read it but I have a3 yo dd and can only read int heevening in between eveything else I need to do but I do feel a bit- so what do I do now

FillydoraTonks · 24/07/2007 18:04

I did also think there should have been more words.

The ending was very rushed. there was no need for that

I wanted to see more of the durseleys
also

FillydoraTonks · 24/07/2007 18:05

lol

I mean 4am THE MORNING IT CAME OUT

have just got home from holidays

now have nothing else to think of save no more hp

Pixiefish · 24/07/2007 18:06

I guessed that's what you meant. Was just saying that i've only been able to have the odd hour here and there in the evenings

FillydoraTonks · 24/07/2007 18:19

it was good though, wasn't it?

MrsWeasley · 24/07/2007 18:20

yes, very

VoldemortrepentsandmarriesLuna · 24/07/2007 18:22

I agree that tehre should have been more words and that it would ahve been nice to find out what happened to the Dursleys.

Also would have been nice to hear more aobut the DA and those at hogwarts.

FillydoraTonks · 24/07/2007 18:29

i'll tell you what sunk me into a bit of despair

that EPILOGUE

fgs

it read like it was ghostwritten by a 13 yo harry-ginny shipper. I mean, it wasn't just trite and ffs. It was badly written, instant gratification shite.

FillydoraTonks · 24/07/2007 18:29

PIT of despair, aargh

fawkeoff · 24/07/2007 18:50

i loved the way that harry was protecting everyone with the charm of sacrifice.....i was heartbroken when i thought he was going to snuff it for good.....it was like a dementor was sitting in bed with me lol
