I will go eventually, but I'll probably have to go on my own so dh can stay with dd. We have a friend that babysits (and vice versa) but our crappy little cinema only shows films at 7 and dd is still up at that time, and we haven't done the 'someone else putting her to bed' thing yet. Never been to the flicks on my own before - I won't look sad will I?

I'm back from viewing the wonder that is film 5

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 12/07/2007 20:17

Oooh do tell Mrs W.

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 12/07/2007 20:18

SB I like going on my own - I find it empowering, but DP will want to come to this one.

PhoenixSongbird · 12/07/2007 20:21

SSM (see what we did there?!) I must say the thought doesn't really bother me, I can sit where I want and won't worry about how much I blub!

And scoff loads of hot dogs, popcorn and revels without feeling guilty.
Tee hee!!!

Come obn Mrs W. tell all.

MrsWeasley · 12/07/2007 20:24

well its good becuase its Harry Potter but it could have been better.
I adore the books and have re-read number 5 a few times and the film misses out a lot of the bits I like!

I will say that the bit where this picture is from is powerful but way too short(dont blink).

katiebell100 · 12/07/2007 20:25

Siobahn for the Book Shop Killarney has emailed me to say she will reserve 2 copies of the book for me The books shop is only a five minute drive from the hotal so I should be settle with my book by about 10, hangover permitting

Glad the film was good MrsW, I'm now really looking forward to seeing it

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 12/07/2007 20:28

I suppose the book is so long they couldn't put everything in but I hope I'm not too disappointed.

persephonesnape · 12/07/2007 20:30

mrs w... do they manage to get the death eater in the bell jar with the babies head? or is it that a bit too tricky?

ds's and i are watching POA at the mo. oh, it's FINE! GOB on saturday night, ready for OOTP on suiday...

in a bizarre twist (...) my exes current gf is coming with us as ex DP refuses to have anything to do with it.

pfft! muggle!

MrsWeasley · 12/07/2007 21:05

I dont want to spoil it for you persephonesnape but its best if you prepare for disappointment

The battle in the MOM is very disappointing IMHO Sorry

The main bookshop in Munich is going to open at 7am on the Saturday am. - for a book in English!

My local bookshop in our small town, smiled indulgently when I called in to reserve my copy. They will not be open at midnight, but I did get the impression that I am the local equivalent of pottermania. I wonder if I will meet anyone else on their doorstep first thing!

MrsWeasley · 12/07/2007 21:30

you should be waiting on their doorstep in full wizard dress. show them how to do it properly

MrsWeasley · 12/07/2007 21:46

this thread needs one more thing to make it homely: A countdown
ONLY 8days 2hours 13minutes 45seconds to book 7

There thats better

Nightynight · 12/07/2007 21:56

lol
they would KNOW I was bonkers then.

Its rural Bavaria.

MrsWeasley · 12/07/2007 21:58

LOL

MrsWeasley · 13/07/2007 08:28

hi I have been tossing and turning all night thinking about the film!

I feel I should say this: I dont want to spoil it for anyone but if you are pulling in any major favours to see this maybe combine it with a nice meal so that you're not too dissappointed!

crookshanks · 13/07/2007 08:49

MrsWeasley - thanks for the opinion on the film, i have decided to wait for the dvd as i would be leaving dh to babysit and i would feel a bit guilty

Were you disappointed because of what was missed out, or that it wasn't quite what you had imagined. I find that with the other films i get quite miffed at some of the stuff that is taken out. I know the books are quite long, but JKR is giving you the whole story and i feel that the films shortchange the books - maybe i am a bit weird

PhoenixSongbird · 13/07/2007 09:01

Errr, no, you're not weird! Usually my favourite bits in the books are the funny little character references - what's the betting U-No-Poo gets left out of the HBP film? Time and time again you see that people who haven't read the books get a bit confused watching the films. OOTP is the longest book, but apparently it's the shortest film! WTF??

Some time in the future (hopefully) they'll get serialised for TV - that way they can have everything in!

Think how well LOTR was adapted for film, and those books are much more inaccessible and involved than HP. Could have done way better with HP I reckon. I still enjoy them though

MrsWeasley · 13/07/2007 09:02

I have come to see the books and films as to very different stories really!
but having not long ago re-read book 5 I suppose it was too fresh in my mind.

They of course missed out big chunks and some bits just didnt "gel" however I am off to see it again on sunday to take my 6 yo so may enjoy it more then.(hopefully)

rosmerta · 13/07/2007 09:03

Seeing it tomorrow night and still quite excited. But then I never expect too much from the films after the first two!

I did read one review which said that because this book is pretty much setting it all up for the last one then its a kind of middley film which you have to see to follow the story.

BandofMuggles · 13/07/2007 09:04

omg, you guys already have over 100 messages.

Charlee my little bro is 22. doesn't look like him per say, but the similarity is there.

MrsWeasley · 13/07/2007 09:06

yes I got the sense that certain things were tokenisms in this film, setting up for future events but to non readers it could put them off!

BandofMuggles · 13/07/2007 09:21

Mrs W, please tell me they left in the part where Umbridge is hem hemming in MacGonagall's lesson.
I love that bit.
