I have only seen Victoria Smurfit in a few things and in those she seems a bit too harsh, could she play the subservient wifey type?

BandofMothers · 03/09/2007 07:48

Nigel Planer would be great, but Fry could also do xeno and it wouldn't matter if he overacted in that role.
Victoria Smurfit would be a good cissy, thought she was younger tho.

Last month when it was Harry and JKR's birthday they said he would be 27, I think.

PhoenixSongbird · 06/09/2007 11:33

Mark Gatiss, another suggestion for Xeno Lovegood. Very good actor and fricking hilarious. His book, The Vesuvius Club is really funny.

There are loads of new characters in the 6th book (Slughorn, Scrimgeour, Voldemorts mother, uncle and grandfather etc) and several more who become important but have been missed out of the film versions (Lavendar Brown, Blaise Zabini etc) They were holding open auditions for Lavendar and the young Tom Riddle in the orphanage.

I agree about Matt Lucas as, like someone else said, I see Slughorn rather like Toad in Wind in the Willows. I think that Brian Blessed would overact beyond belief!

PhoenixSongbird · 06/09/2007 14:49

Ooh, that was me! He?d be great wouldn?t he? I saw Slughorn as slightly effeminate in the books, asexual at least, so Matt Lucas would definitely be good. Brian Blessed is too masculine and booming ? he might have made a good Hagrid if he could tone down his theatricals! I still think Billy Connolly for Scrimgeour!

Billy Connolly would make a good Scrimgeour, I reckon. But then, for me, whoever they put in will work. I think that I have totally accepted everyone mainly because I'm of the mind that the books and the films are 2 separate things. So, it doesn't matter who they put in, it will work for me!

I didn't realise that Draco Malfoy was played by someone so much older than the others. And people comment on Daniel Radcliffe et al!

MrsWeasley · 17/09/2007 23:01

Just read on Mugglenet that "Jim Broadbent has confirmed that he will be playing the role of Slughorn in Half-Blood Prince"

MrsWeasley · 17/09/2007 23:21

for all potter fans : Just read on Mugglenet that "Jim Broadbent has confirmed that he will be playing the role of Slughorn in Half-Blood Prince"

chipmonkey · 18/09/2007 00:03

Billy Connolly couldn't be Scrimgeour, he's already Nearly Headless Nick.

becklespeckle · 18/09/2007 00:25

John Cleese is Nearly Headless Nick!
Can sort of see Jim Broadbent as Slughorn, found a pic here of him with a fairly fine tash - that could be cultivated into a walrus mustache, add a padded waistcoat and he might pull it off

MrsWeasley · 18/09/2007 09:09

He did mention that he has been for lots of costume fittings and will be wearing padding!

LazyLinePainterJane · 18/09/2007 09:35

Lavender Brown has already been in a film, she was in PoA.

I did remember reading that one of the girls who played a minor role in one of the early films was not asked back again because of her terrible attitude. Had assumed it was LB.

chipmonkey · 19/09/2007 10:01

OMG! I really thought that was Billy Connolly! Just shows what a wild curly wig can do!

lilibet · 19/09/2007 13:37

It has to be Hermione Norris for Cissy.

She would be perfect

rosmerta · 19/09/2007 13:59

Jim Broadbent would be good as Slughorn, think of him as Harry Ziegler (sp?) in Moulin Rouge!

rosmerta · 26/09/2007 14:28

Did I kill the thread?

PhoenixSongbird · 28/09/2007 09:50

Haha, I?m still ?watching? this thread but I?ve run out of things to add! I?m always disappointed when there?s nothing new, though.

Now look what's happened! It's been so long with no Harry chat that I've lost my phoenix!

rosmerta · 04/10/2007 21:08

Will he be reborn?

Songbird · 10/10/2007 13:16

Haha, if JKR writes another HP book, he may well be

Sunshinecursedmummy · 10/10/2007 13:19

Hello - Albus here. Anyone else missing it as much as me?

rosmonster · 10/10/2007 14:14

I am, hi Albus! But I guess we have pretty much talked HP to death

Sunshinecursedmummy · 10/10/2007 15:15

We have but surely there is more to his story. Would like to know more about characters such as Fred, Hagrid, Draco as well.

rosmonster · 10/10/2007 21:01

Well, we did start off writing our own HP so perhaps we could do one around the more minor characters?

tigerschick · 10/10/2007 21:09

Wow - can't believe this thread is still here - feels all comfy and home like

Can I confess something? Earlier I was reading a thread about trying for another baby if you have 3 of the same sex, just in case you get one of the other (IYSWIM) and I so nearly quoted the bit in Deathly Hallows where the horcrux tells Ron he's the 'least wanted of 7 sons'! But I didn't think others on the thread would appreciate it

Anyway - I like Jim Broadbent for Slughorn. You see, the problem we have with guessing who is going to play the different parts is that there are soooo many fantastic actors out there it is impossible to guess!

Oh, and while I'm confessing, I also thought that Billy Connolly played Nearly Headless Nick, but I googled it before I posted
