Hope you find this ladies!

BandofMothers · 29/08/2007 11:25

You are so talented.

rosmerta · 29/08/2007 21:04

I can't think of anyone for Slughorn or Aberforth (though I did agree with Matt Lucas as Slughorn, whoever suggested that).

Hmmm, will ponder this and return later

rosmerta · 29/08/2007 21:05

Pete Postlethwaite as Aberforth?

MrsWeasley · 29/08/2007 21:08

its tricky to think of someone who we already picture in our minds then try to find an actor to fit the e-fit!

rosmerta · 29/08/2007 21:19

Very true MrsW, but I just can't remember many british actors

Btw, are any of you coming to the MN xmas party? Don't know if I've asked that or not already so sorry if I have!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 29/08/2007 22:19

Was there a Mundungus in the OOTP film? Bob Hoskins could have done that.

Another possible Slughorn - Mel Smith. Not bad actor at all, v. good in Twelfth Night.
Xenophilius Lovegood - Rhys Ifans is mad. But maybe not old enough.
Fenrir Greyback - the v. lupine Oliver Cotton

Ariana - is the only role my 5yo DD1 could play. Boo hoo. Why haven't I got teenagers that I could force onto the stage and bask in their reflected glory?

MrsWeasley · 29/08/2007 22:27

hi Rosmerta
No I'm not down to come to the xmas party.
Remind me when and where it isbeing held ? LOL

Oh now that oliver cotton already looks the part LOL.

slughorn has to be matt lucas although I could see mel smith doing it too.

trying the think who bob hoskins could play maybe Luna's father ??

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 29/08/2007 22:37

Oh no, not Matt Lucas as Slughorn. I really don't like him as an actor. And he's not old enough. Slughorn is retired. Which means he's about 103.

Although... if he were to be played by someone younger and Hugh Bonneville ate a few pies, I think he'd do a splendid job.

BandofMothers · 29/08/2007 22:38

oh he would be quite good wouldn't he. Fat suits are pretty good these days

MrsWeasley · 29/08/2007 22:56

oh yes I could see Hugh Bonneville as him but maybe hes a bit too pretty.

I have to keep googling these actors to know who they are. I am rubbish at remembering actors names.

rosmerta · 30/08/2007 09:30

I could see Oliver Cotton as Rufus Scrimgeour (sp?) and Greyback!

Stephen Fry should have a role in the films I think

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 30/08/2007 10:19

After I'd linked to Oliver Cotton I was thinking "hmm, who could play Scrimgeour - oh, Oliver Cotton could!!!".

Stephen Fry would overact horribly if let loose on an HP film. Think Cold Comfort Farm.

Orlando Bloom should have been Firenze if they really wanted all the girls to swoon over him.

persephonesnape · 30/08/2007 11:37

I can only see jim broadbents as Lunas dad.

MrsWeasley · 30/08/2007 19:59

he would work too!

persephonesnape · 30/08/2007 20:47

somebody at work said something today which has been playing on my mind - i appreciate your opinions.

he said, having finished DH on tuesday night that the epilogue was now and that everything else had happened in now less 19 years, less seven years for when harry went to hogwarts. therefore harry went to hogwarts in 1981! he was born in 1970 and therefore marauderers era would have been around 1960 or so.

I'm sure I've read stuff that heartily disproves this (...) but it does give the books a place in that quaint sort of era when things were a bit nicer ( ie when i was growing up and probably when JKR was doing so as well) I think the books tend to be set in a non-time, but the films give the children modern dress (hoodies!) when they're not wearing dress robes ( although ginny could have passed for 1986 fashions or so in the OOTP) I'm also pretty sure that dudders gets some computer games for a birthday - i seem to remember 'pong' being around 1984/5 or so?

i do think wizarding world doesn't attend to muggle fashions/music etc, so there is difficulty in placing things as far as older wizards are concerned. that said, there does seem to be a lack of appreciation of wizarding dress in the younger generation who seem to prefer muggle fashions!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 30/08/2007 22:58

That's interesting - I've often thought HPs childhood had date-similarities to mine (I'm born 1969). Vernon has '70s business man' written all over him. Dudders computer games & TV's & airgun, Dudders and his mates out on their bikes which I immediately imagined to be Choppers but it doesn't say that! And they visit a zoo - how 70's is that?! And Sirius has a huge 70's motorbike with a sidecar. And. And. And. I could be here all night

But yes it is timeless so I guess people in their late 20's think BMX and those in their early 20's would think mountain bikes etc. So yes, timeless. Until I read evidence to the contrary!

MrsWeasley · 30/08/2007 23:40

According to the Harry Potter Lexicon: Harry was born on 31/7/1980, started Hogwarts in 1991, making the 19 years later chapter to be in 2017.

HTH

rosmerta · 31/08/2007 09:48

Agree with DoN, that you tend to read this as when you were growing up, I do anyway!

But bow to MrsW, HP sage!

MrsWeasley · 31/08/2007 11:33

obsessed ? me? never

PhoenixSongbird · 31/08/2007 12:23

Oh, hello again everyone! I go away for a week, and see what happens! Oliver Cotton is indeed very lupine, and would make a great Greyback ? do we know how old he?s supposed to be?

My fave Scrimgeour? Billy Connolly! The man can act, and he looks rather lion-like.

I still like Matt Lucas as Slughorn. I pictured Slughorn rather like Toady from Wind in the Willows, ie, fat and more than a bit ridiculous! Not least because Matt Lucas was a great Toady, I think he does ?ridiculous? very well. We?re not reeeeeally supposed to like Slughorn, are we?

What about Cissy? Beautiful but mean looking blonde actress roughly same age as Helena Bottom-Farter? Mmnn?.. Victoria Smurfit

persephonesnape · 31/08/2007 13:00

I'm now favouring Nigel Planer as Xeno Lovegood. i think he's very underestimated as a 'straight' actor. s

PhoenixSongbird · 31/08/2007 13:07

Oh yes, I like that!

OP posts:
janeitebus · 31/08/2007 14:14

Never heard of that actress but yes, she does look the part for Narcissa. Not at all convinced by the Matt Lucas idea I'm afraid. Think I've read somewhere that they might not bother with Scrimgeour in the films, although I could well have imagined it.I'm also surprised that Stephen Fry hasn't been in the films, also Colin Firth and Hugh Grant, as them seem to be in any other "English-type" film!

janeitebus · 31/08/2007 14:15

"They" not "them"!

Nymphadora · 31/08/2007 19:25

Oh Yes Nigel Planer would be fab!
The woman for Narcissa looks good too!
