It doesn’t have to be the most notable or worthy, I’m just interested in which one you actually enjoyed the most so far. I think mine is To the Bright Edge of the World by Ivey Eowyn.

I re-read Middlemarch at the start of the year and adored it.
Also The devil in the flesh and Angela’s ashes.

Gilead. I try Home several years ago and didn't enjoy it, so was resistant to Gilead. And loved it.

"The Dry" by Jane Harper. It's been a long time since I've been so gripped by a plot that I was reading it at every spare moment!

BestIsWest · 23/04/2018 17:06

I thought The Dry was excellent too.

FairyPenguin · 23/04/2018 17:20

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Loved it.

bakingdemon · 25/04/2018 19:35

@SatsukiKusakabe I adored This Thing of Darkness and recommend it to everyone. I can't believe it's not better known

Nononononono33 · 25/04/2018 19:39

Three Things About Elsie by Joanna Cannon. Currently reading Eleanor Oliphant and I love it.

Update for this months books Have recently read Force of Nature by Jane Harper (author of The Dry) again a very good book and Falk returns

At the moment reading (and listening on audio) to The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne it’s fantastic has made me cry and howl with laughter. Narration by Stephen Hogan is brilliant (and only £2.99 extra when you buy the book on kindle)

Toomuchsplother · 28/04/2018 22:54

So far The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock, Life after Life, God in Ruins, Sing unburied Sing , All Quiet on the Western Front.
This thing of Darkness still in my TBR pile.

I've been having quite a good year for reading so far this year (but have fallen off the 50 books thread, must update)

Best read so far:

Winter of the World - Ken Follet. (I've also just finished Edge of Eternity the next one in the series, absolutely brilliant - very long but so worth it)
Glad to see his Columns of Fire recommended as well, because that's on my to be read pile.

I read A Gentleman in Moscow last year, and I really wanted to love it. I have a degree in Russian, and love historical fiction, but it really didn't do it for me.

A Little Life

keyboardkate · 06/05/2018 21:57

A man called Ove. I loved it, but we all have different tastes I know this.

I'm going to sneak in the Heart's Invisible Furies too. Absolutely brilliant book, I could not put it down, but had to now and then, and the fact that I've now read it fills me with disappointment, because I am unable to experience the book with wonder again like the first time!

Weepingwillows12 · 07/05/2018 20:13

I have just finished Circe by Madeline Miller and really enjoyed it. Also Tattooist of Auschwitz and Eleanor Oliphant were both good.

The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo. Outstanding. Nearly broke me though- heart breaking.

AnyFucker · 07/05/2018 20:51

.

The 7 Deaths Of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton was like being in a repetitive dream, very trippy.
Himself, by Jess Kidd, was wonderful.

Grumpbum · 07/05/2018 21:00

The tattooist of Auschwitz

Hearts Invisible Furies has leapt into my top five favourites of all time. Laugh out loud one minute and have tears welling up the next. Utterly brilliant. Am jealous if you haven’t read it.

Just finished The Trauma Cleaner, recommended in an Audible email, and I found that incredibly moving and strangely uplifting, considering the material.

Eleanor Oliphant totally delicious!

Ihatebuildabear · 07/05/2018 21:45

See you in September by Charity Norman is one of my standout favourites from last year.

keyboardkate · 07/05/2018 21:55

peanut,

Tell us the other four of your top five please!!

angelroad · 07/05/2018 22:03

Dolly Alderton's Everything I Know About Love - I don't think I've ever recommended something to so many friends (and it made me snort-laugh on the train on more than one occasion...).

JiltedJohnsJulie · 23/05/2018 07:40

I’ve read a few books but I still think my favourite so far is the Ivey Eowyn one. Has anyone’s choice changed? Smile
