It doesn’t have to be the most notable or worthy, I’m just interested in which one you actually enjoyed the most so far. I think mine is To the Bright Edge of the World by Ivey Eowyn.

Eleanor Oliphant for me too.

I've read This Thing of Darkness and The Go-between previously and they're both excellent.

I'm going to keep an eye on this thread for books to add to my to read pile.

SatsukiKusakabe · 03/04/2018 20:17

Love the Go Between too

mycatthinksshesatiger · 03/04/2018 20:20

Another vote for Eleanor Oliphant - was gutted when it ended! Also loved the Secret Wife

Spartacunt · 03/04/2018 20:20

Another vote for The Heart's Invisible Furies - outstandingly good. Anyone who loved A Little Life will love this. Also enjoyed Still You and Pachinko.

HuckfromScandal · 03/04/2018 20:26

Loved Eloenor oliphant, just finished the silent wife this morning, and was gutted that it ended. I also really loved big little lies, but haven’t enjoyed the tv series at all.

ScribblyGum · 03/04/2018 20:27

My Cousin Rachel by Daphne Du Maurier.

buckeejit · 03/04/2018 20:33

The hearts invisible furies for me. Just started a gentleman in Moscow & liking it but don't want to RTFT in case of spoilers. Endured & enjoyed a little life recently too. Both those on audio

bassackwards · 03/04/2018 20:35

I've only read one book completely so far this year (clingy baby at home!). It was 'Call Me By Your Name' ie the novel on which the recent film is based. It's about a love affair between two young men who meet in the southern Italian countryside, with plenty of passages paying homage to good music, literature and philosophy. Very touching and romantic!

SquishySquirmy · 03/04/2018 20:37

Non fiction: 50 things that changed the modern economy

Fiction: Probably the sleeping Giant by Kazuo Ishigaru

mittensofsteel · 03/04/2018 20:40

@carbuncleonapigsposterior - I read it too! I can’t stop thinking of the characters, so real and funny and brilliant.

Showergel1 · 03/04/2018 20:54

I hated the go between when I read it for A Level. 18 year old me was all 'so they have sex big deal' re-read it about age 25 or so and got a lot more out of it.

This year I've really enjoyed The Nowhere Man and Orphan X. Think they'd make terrific action films. I'm really struggling to enjoy the next generic cop thriller book I'm currently reading though as a result because these previous two were so good.

Tournesol · 03/04/2018 20:59

Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders. So strange but so wonderful!

Wildernesstips · 03/04/2018 21:00

The Wallcreeper by Nell Zink - a little offbeat but quite captivating. Stumbled across her looking for a book to listen to.

A Gentleman in Moscow is on my to- read list. Loved My Cousin Rachel and The Go Between.

turnipfarmers · 03/04/2018 21:00

A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute.

BaconAndAvocado · 03/04/2018 21:09

Elinor Oliphant was fantastic.

Also,loved a Gentleman in Moscow.

Currently reading Swing Time by Zadie Smith, it's okaaaay.

mmack · 03/04/2018 22:13

The Heart's Invisible Furies is the book A Little Life wanted to be. There was much too much much misery and purple prose in A little Life and no humour at all and it was all too unbelievable.

SisterConcepta · 03/04/2018 22:25

A handmaids tale - just finished and loved it.
Cornflakes for breakfast - Heartwarming Xmas gift

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/04/2018 00:27

Eleanor Oliphant I absolutely loved it

Also enjoyed The Dry by Jane Harper

DowntheTown · 04/04/2018 00:49

Eleanor Olliphant - recommended by my mum!

MarshaBradyo · 04/04/2018 00:52

I read what must have been every Liane Moriarty book, they were all pretty good - easy, light, nice to read

Curlyshabtree · 04/04/2018 08:48

Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall. Fascinating geo-political read.

GeorgeHerbert · 04/04/2018 12:46

Reservoir 13 and 4,3,2,1 are top of my list this year so far. Also loved Hag seed but it is just pipped by the other 2!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 04/04/2018 16:02

I’ve read Eleanor Oliphanr this year too and loved it. I passed it onto my DM who devoured it in 2 days.

I read A Handmaid’s Tale last year and enjoyed it too.

Really do need to read some of the others on this list Smile

I am looking forward to A Gentleman in Moscow, which was recommended by a well-read friend, who had bought multiple copies as presents.

Otherwise, I have just finished Testimony, by Scott Turow, which is a thoroughly good thriller and interesting about the work of the International Courts of Justice and the Serbian conflict. One of my favourites so far this year.

PrincessoftheSea · 04/04/2018 20:34

I also loved A Gentleman in Moscow. I enjoyed Eleanor Olliphant while reading it, but afterwards thought it a bit Meh...I also thought The woman in the window was a page turner.

Have just picked up The Silent Companions which looks promising.
