To celebrate the publication of bestselling author Lucy Diamond's latest novel The House of New Beginnings, we're asking you to share your big plans for this coming year.

Number 11, Dukes Square looks just like the other houses on the Brighton seafront: a Regency terrace, a winding staircase, and post piling up in the hall for its three new tenants. It might be part of the city's history, but it's also a place for fresh starts.

Georgie has followed her childhood sweetheart to Brighton but is determined to carve out a career for herself in journalism. Charlotte's in the city for a new start, hoping to keep her head down and somehow get over the heartbreaking loss she's suffered in the past. A terrible revelation sent Rosa running from London to start again as a sous chef. As the three women find each other, it's as if a whole new chapter of their lives has begun.

From the bestselling author of The Secrets of Happiness and Summer at Shell Cottage, this is an uplifting story about love, loss and starting over.

To be in with a chance of winning a hardback edition of The House of New Beginnings, a bottle of champagne PLUS a luxury box of macarons from Brighton's famous Julien Plumart Patisserie (featured in the book), just tell us - what are your resolutions and ambitions for 2017? Three runners-up will also receive copies of the book.

This discussion is sponsored by Macmillan and will close at midday on Thursday 23 February

My resolution for 2017 is to start taking control of my life by making sensible decisions and by stopping self-destructive behaviour. For too long I have let mental health problems plague my every decision, I have let them run my life. I've realised that the only person holding me back now is myself and that if I just started making sensible decisions instead of impulsive ones based on emotions that I could be really happy and so could my husband and children. Happiness is in my hands and in 2017 I just need to start putting this in to practice.

My husband (a Brighton man) is ill with a blood cancer. This week he is having heavy duty chemotherapy followed by a stem cell transplant from a donor...a risky and nasty procedure with lifetime consequences for him. He'll be in hospital for, probably, a couple of months. But, it is his only chance of a "cure".

So this year our plans have completely changed... I will be supporting him and caring for him and doing everything in my power to get him better. Neither of us asked for this...it came as a bolt out of the blue in the summer and has already changed our lives beyond any comprehension, both in practical ways and emotionally. But we have pledged to each other to do this together and this is what we are doing. He has to do al the tough physical stuff, I have to make it as easy as I can for him, and hold as much of our lives together as I can.

This is what real love looks like.

Get fitter and lose some weight. Was exercising three times a week and was a healthy weight before I got pregnant. But pregnancy and a year of sleepless nights have taken their toll. Want to sort that out this year .

I was suddenly and totally unexpectedly widowed 7 years ago with a toddler and a baby on the way. I had to get my head down and 'get on with it' - I got remarried to an amazing man and thought I was doing ok... until at the end of last year I ended up having a mental breakdown - repressed grief, work stress, guilt, a sense of failure all contributed.

So I suppose my resolutions and ambitions are: drag myself out of a horrible depressive pit and become myself again - except this time a little bit more resilient. I also want to do something I have always lacked confidence to do - start up a small business and make it work. I have got as far as registering with Companies House, so baby steps are being made!

Wish me luck...

2017 is the year I'm going to finally finish my first novel! I have so many ideas but I've actually started writing one this year and I'm determined to finish it too. Also hoping to complete the Book Riot 2017 Read Harder challenge, and write on my blog more regularly. All mine are reading/writing themed!

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/01/2017 17:58

I'm retraining to do nails, lash extensions, hot waxing & spray tanning.

My aim is to be the best in the area in all four treatments.

My husbands in an awful job & I want him to be able to leave if it gets worse.

FeelingSmurfy · 29/01/2017 18:08

To not put things off and to not think 'what if...'

I want this year to be about doing things I've been thinking about over the last few years but never got around to doing, and to do little things that I normally talk myself out of then regret later, like standing up to applaud at a theatre, going out wearing a Christmas hat (in December!) say hello to a stranger I see regularly but have only ever nodded at etc

DaisyDando · 29/01/2017 18:37

My ambition is rather more lowly than some of those previously posted.
I intend to stop binning the body lotion bit out of bath gift sets and do something about my crocodile skin.
I did have plans to write a book whilst on maternity leave. Now I'd settle for reading a book.

foxessocks · 29/01/2017 18:38

Not waste so much time on my phone and do things like read, watch films, talk to dh more...

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 29/01/2017 20:15

My resolution/ambition is to lose 52lb and become fitter.

I've recently had a heart scare and the look of horror on my DP's face was enough to stir me into action. So far I've been exercising every day and lost 5lb.

My future is in my hands - it's my responsibility to make that reality.

0ryx · 29/01/2017 23:28

My 2017 goals are to really nail the learning a language thing. I've played around with language lessons in the last few years but I'd really like to have a confident grasp of my chosen language by the end of year.

Additionally, I'd like to find a purpose in life. Though I'm not sure how to go forwards with this one!

haveacupoftea · 29/01/2017 23:28

I am terrible with money and am having a baby this year. I resolved to get organised and get things bought for baby well ahead of my due date - and have been doing well so far Smile still a way to go with organisng finances but its a lot less intimidating than it was on New Years Eve 2016.

Tiggles · 30/01/2017 11:09

My son was in a bad road accident just over a year ago. He is now generally well (but very unfit having not been able to do any exercise for a year) so is planning a 40 mile cycle ride to raise money for the hospital that helped him. So in my infinite wisdom to give him some encouragement in his training I have committed to getting up an hour early every day and doing an hours exercise rowing and cycling. 1 month in and still going...

jonniesmum · 30/01/2017 11:10

I'm investing time in me as a writer this year and going to Greece on a writers' retreat. Can't wait.

VioletHornswaggle · 30/01/2017 12:04

Ooh, I do like a Lucy Diamons novel.

So, this year, I am leaving my job after 17 years and retraining. Hopefully I'll be in employment by the end of the year! I am also moving house and settling in a brand new area, getting DD into a new school and hopefully getting to know new people and friends. There is a lot to do and I am hoping to sell off a lot of stuff to raise a bit of spare cash! I will go from being a decent earner to having nothing, then hopefully a little something but it will be a 40K pay drop at first. I am making the change for a different quality of life and hopefully more stability. Having been in one organisation for 17 years, despite being successful I am doubting myself. What if I have just done well by a fluke and I am actually a bit crap? What if I cannot find a job?! Lots of self-doubt going on right now!

WowOoo · 30/01/2017 12:12

My ambition is to eat a little more healthily. I've noticed pounds slowly creeping on. Nothing major so I've just been going for slightly smaller portions and lots more veg. I want to make it a habit to reach for a carrot as a snack instead of half a bar of chocolate.

CordeliaScott · 30/01/2017 15:42

Last year I resolved to read 50 books, although failed miserably. This year I am going to give it another go and hopefully get closer than the 17 I managed last year!

Whilst not just for this year, I am aiming to get debt free (apart from the mortgage) over the next 3 years so that I will feel more financially secure.

boo2410 · 30/01/2017 15:47

I have secondary progressive MS and my goal this year is to try and get my core strength back in my torso as the muscles have gone. It's a bit of a tall order and I have been told it will be hard but I need to do this for my son. I want to be able to lean over in my wheelchair to pick things up instead of relying on him to do it all for me.

berrow1951 · 30/01/2017 15:52

I hope to get a hip replacement, then there will be no stopping me

agnapoop · 30/01/2017 15:53

I want to be more confident in my abilities. I plan to take myself outside my comfort zone at least once a week.

jammy388 · 30/01/2017 15:54

I'm aiming to declutter by concentrating on one room per month, with a view to down sizing in the next few years.

clairegraham801 · 30/01/2017 16:08

This year I'm going to make sure I make more time for myself and not feel guilty about doing so, which I normally find difficult. So far I've had an hour a week to do something I enjoy which doesn't sound much but makes me feel good and in turn is better for family life

NurseKeegan · 30/01/2017 16:09

I am endeavouring to balance work (just back to my full time job as an ED nurse after 11 months of maternity) and my almost 1 year old daughter, Pippa. It's so nice to have some structure back in my life, and I'm using my brand new diary! I feel like a grown up again after almost losing all my brain cells to In The Night Garden marathons. And I get to eat 3 square meals again, when there aren't too many lives to save! Woohoo!

rupert23 · 30/01/2017 16:16

My goal for 2017 is to get fit.lose weight .declutter the house and spend lots of time with my five children who are all growing up so fast.

kateandme · 30/01/2017 16:17

to be more at peace.in my mind to be less anxious
