I really wanrt to find a book I read as a young girl -it was a pony/horse book, maybe by one of the usual pony book authors but not sure - group of children go on holiday to remote house in Wales- very bleak and no food etc...any ideas -or failing that, any suggestions of authors I could trawl through- thanks !

First thought would be one of the Pullein-Thompson sisters. this site has bibliographies with descriptions of all their books but there are dozens and dozens to trawl through, unless any of the titles rings a bell.

thanks RosaLuxembourg- will check it out - there was another horsey author who was also a show jumper, but can't think of her name - maybe Sue something ?

Quootiepie · 09/01/2007 14:34

It's not the "Jinny" series? They move to a remote house in Scotland....

JackieNo · 09/01/2007 14:35

My sister liked these sorts of books, and the only ones I could remember were My friend Flicka and The Silver Brumby , but it doesn't look like either of those.

Piffle · 09/01/2007 14:36

Piffle · 09/01/2007 14:38

Flicka was set in montana Mary O hara
and brumby series was in Oz I think?

KezzaG · 09/01/2007 14:42

I dont know the answer to this but it is driving me insane. I cant do any work now, I am just reminiscing about Jills Gymkhana series.

I will be back to check this later and hope someone has found the answer. Am back off to trawl through amazon.

Quootiepie · 09/01/2007 14:43

Im going to dig out all my old books now

PinkTulips · 09/01/2007 14:44

oh the flashbacks are coming thick and fast at tall these titles!

i was very horsey and read every pony book under the sun but i also have a memory like a sieve so can't remember any of their names, lol

JanH · 09/01/2007 14:45

Monica Edwards wrote pony stories too - about Tamzin and Rissa (and the Punchbowl Farm lot too) - was the right era for bleak houses with no food!

Quootiepie · 09/01/2007 14:46

I know there was a series set in Wales... for the life of me I can't think of some of the titles... they were all cousins and the like though. But it's a more modern pony book series.

katelyle · 09/01/2007 14:46

My 11 year old is currently galloping(!) through the Jill books! She didn't like the Pullein Thompson ones - too old fashioned, but we have had Monica Edwards as bed time stories. Wonderful nostalgic stuff for me!

Binker, you aren't thinking on the Punchbowl Farm books are you?

Piffle · 09/01/2007 14:50

its not mary gervaise - secret of pony pass is it?

binker · 09/01/2007 14:51

Katelyle, no I don't think it was those...it's lovely to see all these memories coming back though !
I loved Follyfoot !
Did anyone else enter the yearly WH Smith Win a Pony Competition ? I always did, despite not having anywhere to put it,should I get lucky !!
I envied my best friend her Sindy horse but even better than that was my Thelwell pony, with lovely mane and tail - I think it was either Miranda on Merrylegs or Fiona on Thistledown - I had all the Thelwell books, come to think of it...

I dont remember the smiths win a pony comp, but I remember a pony magazine where they said you part owned a pony just by buying the mag. I cant remember what its name was, but there was a competition to find a rider for it.

I really believed I owned that pony!

Quootiepie · 09/01/2007 14:55

I remember a magazine with a horse called Freddy, and another called Muffin...

Piffle · 09/01/2007 14:56

and the jackie series are good read as well
Judith Berrisford
Oh gawd anyone else aching for their childhood again?

KezzaG · 09/01/2007 14:57

Freddy, that was it.

Blu · 09/01/2007 14:58

I loved the 'Jill' books.

And Pat Smythe wrote a series, didn't she?
