This month we are delighted to bring you Hoot Owl, Master of Disguise. This hilarious tale from masterful storyteller Sean Taylor and celebrated graphic artist Jean Jullien tells the story of Hoot Owl, an extraordinary owl and master of disguise, and how he uses his expert camouflage powers to trick his unsuspecting prey.

Laugh-out-loud and boldly illustrated, Hoot Owl is the perfect book for reading aloud together and we think you'll probably enjoy it as much as the kids.

Walker Books have asked us to find 50 Mumsnetters to read Hoot Owl and tell us what they think about it on this discussion thread. Go to the giveaway page to find out more and apply for a free copy.

You don’t have to win a free copy to take part in the discussion. Anyone who has read Hoot Owl can post their feedback here, and all who post before 25 April will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 Love2Shop voucher.

My granddaughter (aged 5) borrowed this from the library and initially I thought it was quite sinister, but how wrong I was. It's a very funny story of an owl who thinks he can perfect a disguise to catch his dinner but things don't work out as planned. It's a lovely book with colourful illustrations which I'd recommend to young readers and their granny's. It's a hoot!

My nephews enjoyed this book. Always looked interested and excited when I was reading it to them. Visually appealing too.

From the winning subheading "master of disguise" to the serious, unblinking eyes created by Jean Jullien, Hoot Owl is a blast! Packed with adorable, close-up cartoon animals and driven along with Sean Taylor's fun, memorable chorus, this book will entertain toddlers and early readers.

What sets this book apart is the adventurous choice of vocabulary, the absurdity of Hoot Owl's disguises (which are a delight!) and the unusual way Hoot Owl finds his food.

There are plenty of pitch-black pages in this book, which is fitting for the nocturnal lead, and is reminiscent of the feel of Owl Babies. Other pages are loosely colour-themed, helping to structure the story for pre-school children.

The writing has a certain urgency that, when performed for children at home or at school, will keep everyone's attention - even before the start of the story!

A fine, fun, fictional account of an owl that plans, instead of preys on, its food.

Really good read, enjoyed it.

Definitely a "Hoot" with my little one. Great for adult and child participation. Illustrations superb and as a result, my little one wants to see some real owls, so we're planning a trip to a nearby owl sanctuary.

Still a bedtime favourite weeks later. 'I am wise, I am a master of disguise' is a regular catchphrase for my three year old.

chr1ssy0908 · 24/04/2016 20:22

Our DD is absolutely nuts about owls and would have been hooked anyway, but the storywriting was brilliant and not patronising at all! Loved it and I wish there were more books written as well as this for our little ones!

dirtypop · 24/04/2016 20:41

Kangakate · 24/04/2016 22:02

jamielmdjs · 24/04/2016 23:36

it was a hoot (pun intended). genuine humour throughout - loved the disguises, loved each misadventure as the prey eludes him. brilliantly illustrated too.
