What we're reading

GoT theories - Spoilers

Started this off the back of the chat thread, where we didn't want to disclose spoilers for those that have only watched the series.

What do you think happens?

Poor Jon Snow. Stabbed... to death? I think so, but Melisandra is at the wall. he'll be brought back. His vows to the watch ended since he died. I have a sneaky feeling he will be on the Iron throne due to his parentage.
(Rhaegar and Ned Starks sister (can't remember her name)

I really see Dany going the way of Mad King Aerys. I think someone will put an end to her the way Jaime did Aerys, possibly Tyrion. There is a lot of indication of the bond between the 2 brothers, i think both of them will be "kingslayers"

A big 'un - Eddard Stark, is he dead? I've heard theories that a faceless one took his place. Varys seems to be in control of a lot more than he appears (and he appears to be in control of a lot) I have a sneaking suspicion that these theories are right and he and Arya will meet up.

Yeah as Rhaegar's son, Aegon has the stronger claim than Dany, Rhaegar's sister. It is possible Rhaegar secretly married Lyanna, as Targaryens were not only known for marrying their sisters they sometimes had more than one wife.
I suppose the illegitinacy of certain claimants could be turned into legitimancy, after all, Ramsey the asshat wanted to be made illegitimate (hence killing off Roose's trueborn sons). It wasn't that Roose wasn't able to he just didn't want to as he didn't like Ramsey. A bit like Stalin complaining about Hitler's concentration camps Hmm

And Stannis tempted Jon Snow with legitimating him as Ned's son (even though we all think he wasn't) - and hence making him heir to Winterfell.

I hope Zombie Cat gets to find out that Jon wasn't actually Ned's son before she gets incinerated/decapitated/whatever.

Ah yeah I hadn't thought about the illegitimate thing, good point. Does Gendry know who his father was? He seems to be a bit of a loose end atm, the Brotherhood without Banner bores me slightly.

Kate...
When you play the game of thrones you either win.....or you die.

Who would Ned have favoured do you think?
Not Jon snow...he let him join the nights watch!
Gendry?

I think Ned was Team Stannis before his death, and the "revelation" that Robert had an illegitimate son would not have changed that. He was very loyal to Robert, so would never have supported a Tagaryan claimant as that would have been an acknowledgment that Robert's Rebellion was wrong. And he had strong feelings on illegitimacy, so wouldn't support Gendry.

Oh, of course he was!
It's been a while since I read the books...
Yes.
Stannis and then renly would have made sense wouldn't it?

Robert still has plenty of bastards alive. He had 16 in the books.

How can Sansa legally marry Harry?

Book is out 2015.

Hmmm 2015, had these false dawns before, here's hoping he sticks to a deadline!

I think the marriage between Sansa and Tyrion could be annulled on the basis of non-consummation.

Report
expatinscotland · 08/02/2014 17:07

Well yes, but until it is, she is legally married to him.

Report
Sheldonswhiteboard · 08/02/2014 17:15

true, I presume the High Septon has to declare an annulment, or given that Tyrion has buggered off maybe it's abandonment!

Report
expatinscotland · 08/02/2014 17:36

She was only 12 when she was married to him. And, in the books, after being around Lysa, Robert and Littlefinger, she starts to realise she preferred Tyrion.

KateSMumsnet · 08/02/2014 18:08

I want Sansa and Tyrion to become mates, and I want a scene where Sansa apologises to him for making things so difficult for him.

I have major love for Sansa though. She's going to learn all of Littlefinger's secrets and then push him out the moon door Grin. Like Badvoc said, in the game of throne you win or you die, and Sansa survived Kings Landing, so I think she's winning.

What do we think Arya is going to do? I hope there's a Nymeria reunion scene.

Report
expatinscotland · 08/02/2014 18:17

She was only twelve/ thirteen in the books. I don't think he holds her behaviour against her, tbh.

TripTuckerInMyStocking · 08/02/2014 18:49

Yep, I think Nymeria is the head of the huge pack roaming the Riverlands.
Arya is going to become a faceless man and off Varys! Which would be a shame because I kind of like Varys.

I'd also like to see Sansa/Tyrion. As for Sansa marrying Harry the Heir, I assumed Littlefinger is going to maintain the fiction that Sansa is his bastard, Alayne Stone.

Report
Badvoc · 08/02/2014 18:56

No one else think littefinger is grooming Sansa for himself?

Report
AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 08/02/2014 19:03

I'm absolutely positive that Littlefinger is grooming Sansa, but I'm not quite sure why. I guess his plan is to marry her to Harry the Heir, and at some point either produce evidence that Tyrion is dead (easily forged) or get the marriage annulled, reveal that she is the Heir of Winterfell, then get Harry bumped off, marry Sansa and rule Winterfell and the Vale through her.

Report
AryaOfHouseSnark · 08/02/2014 19:32

Does anyone else read Harry the heir as Harry the hair ?
I know that's not how you pronounce it, but for some reason, possibly the h in Harry, it sounds like that in my head.

Report
Sheldonswhiteboard · 08/02/2014 19:37

I have a feeling that Littlefinger is grooming her- she reminds him of Cat, he is so going out the moon door.

He is creepy, making her kiss him on the mouth. Should have gone to Casterly Rock with Tyrion when she had the chance.

I love this thread! So happy to see fellow GoT nerds. The Jon as son of Lyanna and Rhaegar could be too obvious.
2015! Cry!

I feel I should point out that all of Robert's bastards were horribly slaughtered.

Report
TripTuckerInMyStocking · 08/02/2014 20:42

I agree about the grooming, I think Aintnobody is spot on.

Jean - only the ones that were in King's Landing. Edric Storm is at Storm's End, so Joffrey couldn't reach him there. Though I think he ended up at Dragonstone, after Stannis's men beseiged Storm's End (I think Melisandre offed the castellon Renly left in charge.)
Also Mya Stone in the Vale of Arryn is one of Robert's bastards. There could be other bastards of Robert's elsewhere. Hell, the way he shagged anything that moved, there was probably more than 16, it's just there was only 16 he knew were his!

The woman who gave the prophecy to Cersei said he would have 16 children.
