GoT theories - Spoilers

Started this off the back of the chat thread, where we didn't want to disclose spoilers for those that have only watched the series.

What do you think happens?

Poor Jon Snow. Stabbed... to death? I think so, but Melisandra is at the wall. he'll be brought back. His vows to the watch ended since he died. I have a sneaky feeling he will be on the Iron throne due to his parentage.
(Rhaegar and Ned Starks sister (can't remember her name)

I really see Dany going the way of Mad King Aerys. I think someone will put an end to her the way Jaime did Aerys, possibly Tyrion. There is a lot of indication of the bond between the 2 brothers, i think both of them will be "kingslayers"

A big 'un - Eddard Stark, is he dead? I've heard theories that a faceless one took his place. Varys seems to be in control of a lot more than he appears (and he appears to be in control of a lot) I have a sneaking suspicion that these theories are right and he and Arya will meet up.

Oh made mistake of engaging Fuckery junior (font of all GOT knowledge) about what he thought. My brain is now pouring out of my ears. Bran becomes dragon warg (love that word) yes. But has completely revised his plausible theories about it all. Apparently, GRRM has said one thing he isn't going to do is a popularist ending. So no Jon as king, no Jaime/brienne, Dany goes snooker loopy and allies with Greyjoys, Rickon snuffs it. I tried to get him to sign in to do a spread sheet of theories but he just went (hmm)

I think Bran will end up permanently in that tree.
The Hound is the gravedigger.
I wonder whether r + l =j is too obvious?
Jon will be brought back from the dead, maybe UnJon, like UnCat ( Hope not though she still annoys me undead).
No happy ending for Jaime and Brienne, I think though that they are still alive at the moment. I don't think Jaime is the valonquar, I'm sure that means little brother, so although that could be either Jaime or Tyrion, it could be any little brother, mabe even Tommen! I reckon it will be Rickon who eats her liver with a bottle of Arbor red after spending too much time on that cannibal island.
I'm still convinced that Sansa will push Littlefinger out the moon door and she will be Queen in the North. Dany won't sit on the Iron Throne, she'll go completely mad and like Aerys will think she is immune to fire (I know she survived Drogo's funeral pyre), but I think she will be consumed by dragon fire. Westeros will dissolve into the 7 kingdoms again.

Yes I think Bran will warg a dragon, so agree with him there.
GRRM has said it will be a bittersweet ending. Some of our very favourites are going to die horribly, or kill each other.
Is Fuckery Jr on Here ?

Yep, I hope Sansa does for Littlefinger, the slimy git.
I bet she does end up married to Harry.

I reckon Dany will get herself killed at some point and Jorah will do himself in.
Does anyone else think the Quentyn Martell storyline to be utterly pointless?

I also wonder about poor Myrcella :( And what will happen to Selyse and Shireen on the wall now that Stannis is dead.

I'd like to tie Ramsey and Joffrey together and stick them in the Sarlek pit!

Stannis isn't dead - I'd put money on it. His story has a way to go yet, we've only got Ramsey's word for it that he's dead, and apparently there's a chapter been read out from WOW which has him alive.

WhoWasThatMaskedWoman · 06/02/2014 22:56

I'm hoping that there's more to come on Shireen though. Assuming Stannis ends up dead (not now, but probably before the end of the saga) then she's the only legitimate Baratheon heir, and the hints we've had of her character have been good.

I'd like to see some prophecies NOT come true. Not in any interpretation that anyone (in-universe) can see.

e.g. Cersei dies before all of her children

Because even in a world where true prophecies exist (perhaps especially in that kind of world) there will still be plenty of charlatans.

AryaOfHouseSnark · 07/02/2014 11:14

Yes Trills, I think GRRM will have put a few red herrings in,just to fuck with us. Grin
I think a lot of prophecies will be self fulfilling, especially in Cerseis case, I often wonder if she is the younger and more beautiful queen and she will be her own down full.

Has anyone read 'The Princess and the Queen', from the Dangerous Women anthology?

It is about the first Dance of Dragons where the Princess, the named heir, isn't informed by her stepmother of her father's death because her stepmother wants her own son to be King.

The body count, both human and dragon, is horrific, and it has served to convince me the last thing we want is more Targeryens on the throne!

I loved Aiden Gillen in the wire, I have a bit of a crush on him too.
I haven't read The Princess and the Queen yet, not long finished the hedge knight. It's in the same series isn't it ?

I kind of hope that Stannis isn't dead, just because it would be too awful Ramsey killing him because he is such an evil fucker.
But you have to admit Renly and Stannis almost deserve their fates for being too hard headed to work together. Stannis WAS Robert's rightful heir and the chances are Shireen would never inherit the throne, making Renly's Stannis's heir. IF they worked together, they could have taken the Iron Throne from Cersei and Robb would have been content to let him and returned North.

miserywaterfall · 07/02/2014 13:19

Agreed there Trip Stannis and Renly should have put their crap aside and worked together. Poor Renly

Noooo I don't want Dany to end up a bad mad Targ But it would be classic GRRM. And it definitely wouldn't be a populist ending Sad

I totally have Danearys down on my potential baby name list. Thankfully DP is sensible and will stop me calling our future children Daenarys Lyra even though that would be a brilliant name

It's ages since I read the books, who's the dude who was on the boat with Tyrion who is actually a Targ? I think he's going to turn out to be a rum one.

I think the Martells are really interesting, especially the Sand Snakes. I want to see them developed more in the future books, whenever they arrive

Supposedly Aegon. It was believed he was killed in the sack of Kings Landing but the theory is that another body was presented to Robert and Varys smuggled the real Aegon away.

If genuine would bugger up Danys plans as he is older then her.

Daenerys is lovely :)
If he kills jon off I will be deeply unhappy.
Deeply.

That's the badger. So the people with the best claim to the Iron Throne are:

Ageon - Targaryen descent but a bit of a prick IMO
Gendry - trueborn son of Robert Baratheon - would his claim would be stronger than Stannis'?
Jon Snow - if we accept the Lyanna/Rhaegar theory, but bound to the Black Watch until DEATH
Daenarys - Targargen and BAMF

Am I missing anyone? Interestingly, these are all characters that the Lannisters/Freys/Baratheons either don't know or don't really care about.

Report
KateSMumsnet · 08/02/2014 14:38

Of course, having a claim to the throne doesn't actually mean anything, it's going to be about who has the most power, and manages to kill Littlefinger and befriend Varys. C'mon Sansa!

Report
Sheldonswhiteboard · 08/02/2014 14:53

Gendry is illegitimate though so I suspect Stannis would have a greater claim.
Jon Snow - illegitimate as well (unless there was a secret marriage and R + L = J I still think it's too obvious).
I think Aegon currently has the greatest claim but is he for real?
Dany, no if Aegon is the real deal

At the end of the day I suspect might will out, so at this point who knows!

I'd love Sansa to off Littlefinger, maybe she is the younger more beautiful queen who will replace Cersei. I just want GRRM to get the rest of the books written!
