Would anyone like to be part of a reading group?
I need something to encourage me to read more regularly - i absolutely love to read but seem to have put it on the back burner recently....
want to get back to enjoying it again
I anyone is interested, we could agree on a book (easier said than done, I suspect!)
read it then discuss....
hmmmmmmm
anyone>?

POssibly. I do kind of belong to a reading group here (recently joined) but been a bit lax. This way may be easier.

SenoraPostrophe · 14/12/2003 20:27

Good idea.

We did do this last year. We chose 3 books, but the discussions sort of petered out. It would possibly work better with just one choice, but I'd need at least a month to order it and read it! (or would we do it chapter by chapter? that may be better, but I'd still need a few weeeks to order it.)

Did you have a book in mind?

lyndsey66 · 14/12/2003 20:28

I would love to be part of a reading club (! do I sound over keen and geeky!) I love reading - although I dont get loads of time - about to start a thread about how disorganised my life is!! What sorts of book do you like?
Must admit that for 2 years all I have read is baby books!
Let me know what sort of stuff you like.

popsycal · 14/12/2003 20:29

i don't have a particluar book in mind at the moment....

The way we do it is one person each month (kind of on a rota) selects 3 books and gives a brief review and explanation of what it is about (usually from Amazon!). The others then vote for the book they want and we go with the majority. We then have a month to read the book, and discuss it on a set date.

fairydust · 14/12/2003 20:32

i'd love to do it to - posted a thread earlier in the month i want a book for over xmas -

use to read loads but suddenly stoped and i really miss it -

no horrors please i get nightmares to easy

Hulababy · 14/12/2003 20:34

I'm not keen on scary ones either, or horrific type ones. First book for my book group was A Sundat at the Pool in Kigali - all about the genocide - didn't enjoy it at all and couldn't finish it.

Well...

Favourite books are:

Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut (v short, but a bit sci fi, possibly not to everyone's tatse)
Gulliver's Travels
Regneration by Pat Barker (read this for the last attempt at a book group! )

There are more but I read them a while ago.Particularly like political satire, historical and sci-fi-ish novels, but am easy really!

fairydust · 14/12/2003 20:36
