yes me too

we have ant and bee and the doctor

it has thinly disguised gay subtext

hilarious

Helen38 · 16/02/2006 10:21

Hate bear hunt book, refuse to have a copy in the house, I have always know it as a rhyme that I used to do when I worked in preschool. Do it with my kids and get very grumpy when ds1 corrects me cos I am not using the words from the book has been brain washed at school

Love Hairy maclary books which is good as ds2 is obsessed at the mo, also big bear little bear, can't remember who by, Can't you sleep little bear is the best.

Can read each peach pear plum with out the book!

Troutpout · 16/02/2006 11:21

Is Seuss more of a boy thing? do we have girls who love Seuss?...Just interested
ds loved them all...and dd has absolutely no interest...
ds does have a more intense imagination though...perhaps that's it

Dont mind bearhunt. If you want one to make you cry, try "I'll love you forever" by Robert Munsch
I've had to ban it because I can't read it without sobbing! Go on try it and let me know how you get on

wilbur · 16/02/2006 11:27

Oh lord, we've got two copies of Love you Forever - one given to me by my mum. I simply cannot read it, floods, floods, floods...

BettySpaghetti · 16/02/2006 11:48

Only just come across this thread. I don't mind Bear Hunt but has anyone else mentioned a hatred of the sodding Elephant and the Bad Baby? -can't abide it, neither can DP. Unfortunately DD cottoned on to this and took great delight in choosing that book for her bedtime story as often as she could just to see our reactions!

Cassoulet · 16/02/2006 12:05

Loathe Mr Men and Little Miss - shudder despise vomit; also anything 'written' by Disney whether bowdlerised or original.

Loved Big Bear Little Bear stories. Rainbow fairy (Daisy Meadow) got dd (now 6) reading for herself. Right now she loves Unfortunate Events (they're pretty hard to read, though - very long sentences!, but lots of long new words) and Harry Potter. Don't know Bear Hunt but will look at library.

Sherbert37 · 16/02/2006 14:21

Just remembering the HOURS spent poring over the Baby's Catalogue - they loved the naughty ones best and had to make up little stories about each baby. Amazing how many of these books I can remember off by heart - Dear Zoo, Cat in the Hat especially.

harpsichordcarrier · 16/02/2006 14:27

cassoulet you are so right
the Mr Men books are utter utter crap
spread the word

suzywong · 16/02/2006 14:42

I fcken hate the Mr Man books, I knew I'd forgotten something

When I left for Oz, my mum bequeathed me the entire collection of MM books including the eye-pokingly-out awful John Mouse

I gave them to a friend knowing that I would never willingly read them aloud to the kids and wouldn't ya just know it, ds1 is obsessed with them and I am mug enough to buy him one a week and have to read the bloody awful things. Very lazy, padded text IMO

I hate them

suzywong · 16/02/2006 14:44

NO BETTY

I adore the elephant and the bad baby, especially when they go "rumpeta. rumpeta, rumpeta' All down the road. And the cakes, cream, cherry, almond, raspberry, coffee and what's the other one. Oh god I love it.

harpsichordcarrier · 16/02/2006 14:44

yes they're AWFUL
and so LOOOOONG as well

suzywong · 16/02/2006 14:46

I bloody hate them
what 's the one where the entire action is some badly drawn character meeting other badly drawn characters whilst walking along the road. Mr Clever, that's the one.

Hate them
Get them on the bonfire

Popsycal - just love Hurry Hurry Mary Dear, and my 17 month old loves it too!

Like Bear hunt, love the gruffalo et al and Peepo, but absolutely hate Owl Babies - so naff.

tomsmumautism · 16/02/2006 16:45

the best book is pants. I mean, the best book is "Pants" - small pants, big pants, giant frilly pig pants. etc etc ad lib to fade. I love it.

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 16/02/2006 16:48

Pants on your head when you've gone crazy!

motherinferior · 16/02/2006 16:57

Run away from SCARY pants!

SorenLorensen · 16/02/2006 17:17

I'm normally opposed to book burning, suze, but when it comes to the Mr Men books, hell, I'll provide the matches.

dreamingoflamu · 16/02/2006 19:14

So wonderful to see Ant and Bee mentioned - I've never met anyone else who knew who they were! Always wondered where the mum was in Bear Hunt - or is that blonde one the mum?? She always looks like a big sister to me and mum seems to be missing.

Anyone else know 'The foot book' by Dr Seuss - that is no.1 fave with ds (9months) and is loved by all just because his reactions to it are just the best

Pobsycat · 16/02/2006 20:16

We love the Sarah Garland books - coming to tea, doing the washing, etc - i know they're all 'mummy at home' type of books, but they're just normal, everyday things that happen. I like the fact that the mum is clearly pregnant in one of them, and it's not all 'oooh, mummy is going to have another baby', is just is, somehow. And the blonde toddler is a dead ringer for DS2, which makes me like them evenmore.

tiredbutloveum · 16/02/2006 20:18

love bear hunt to bits read it a thousand times but still love it . my dd2 used to sleep with it she loved it so much.
i hate "i dont like peas" dd2 has never eaten peas since !!!!
