must be downstairs

but i did find a FAB book
hurry hurry mary dear

anyone read that

Blandmum · 15/02/2006 14:54

hmmm, not bad. I spent bloody ages thinking about him as I read the book, that is for sure

SorenLorensen · 15/02/2006 14:55

OK, MI - he didn't deserve to be eaten, but he should have expected to be eaten. The fact that he didn't (expect to be eaten), and lived in a little tent in the middle of a load of hungry bears means he was a nutter.

I rest my case.

Don't know about being compared to cod though - should I be flattered or insulted In my defence, I haven't left the house in days and I am slowly losing my mind. In fact I'm thinking of taking the tent and pitching it in amongst some big old bears...

motherinferior · 15/02/2006 15:00

Jez Alborough looks sort of sleazy but not quite sleazy enough, IMO. I find his books curiously off-putting, too.

I do see Bear Bloke was a nutter, really, SL...

Enid · 15/02/2006 15:01

no not my type

like a jester hat wearting glastonbury type

needs to be a bit dirtier or rugged

SorenLorensen · 15/02/2006 15:01

Do you have empathy for Bear Guy, MI? I think you do...

Do you have any urges to swim with dolphins, or embrace snakes, or tickle tarantulas?

Blandmum · 15/02/2006 15:03

I'll admit it, I'm sad and need to get out more

OK so who is a hunky children's writer then?

(bet you wouldn't kick him out of bed tho......)

harpsichordcarrier · 15/02/2006 15:03

anyone for Owl Babies?

SorenLorensen · 15/02/2006 15:04

My voice wobbles when I read Owl Babies...

hunkermunker · 15/02/2006 15:04

Are you selling them on eBay, HC? Think that's very likely illeagle.

hunkermunker · 15/02/2006 15:05

God, I'm tired - I'm snorting at that

SorenLorensen · 15/02/2006 15:05

Illeagle owls?

harpsichordcarrier · 15/02/2006 15:05

HM
they are all legit, guv'ner
orphaned innit?

harpsichordcarrier · 15/02/2006 15:05

Owl Babies is very sweet

and she came

Blackduck · 15/02/2006 15:06

Duck in a Truck....
What IS that line about 'here are the feet that jump the duck down'!.....

hunkermunker · 15/02/2006 15:07

Now have an image of you opening one side of your coat on busy London street like a man selling knocked-off watches - only your coat lining is festooned with little owls.

Must sleep.

fennel · 15/02/2006 15:14

Love Farmer duck
Gruffalo and Bear hunt overrated
snail and whale and hairy maclarey ok

hate all the "where's my mummy" books such as owl babies. encouraging the assumption that poor mummies are not allowed to be out of sight.

the dds favourite for ages as toddlers was a 70s school text book "how is lego brick made". wordy, no rhymes. long story of oil production. they still like it very much.

motherinferior · 15/02/2006 15:23

Farmer Duck has a very odd rhythm, though; I can never quite work out whether it's meant to be rhyming text or not. 'There once was a DUCK who had the bad LUCK to live with a grumpy old farmer.' I do like the message of Overthrowing the Exploitative Oppressor, if a little Orwellian, though.

spots · 15/02/2006 15:23

Loathe Hairy Maclary. Something rather sinister about the illustrations, like Giles cartoons. and I think the author is spinning out the line somewhat.

Clary · 15/02/2006 15:32

yes MI, farmer Duck is very hard to read, I sometimes adapt it to a rather ponderous versical rhythm. Don't like children's books that don't rhyme.
Will make an exception for Storybook Wolves tho.

SorenLorensen · 15/02/2006 15:38

I think my favourite read aloud author is Dr Seuss - I'm quite proud of my Fox in Socks
