Am just finishing The good man Jesus and the scoundrel Christ by Phillip Pullman. Easy to read and very interesting.
What books have other people got their noses in at the moment?

@Foxinsocks Get a copy of the Alexander's "Missing Boyfriend" whilst it's free too. I far preferred it to First Year Of Marriage. If you spot any other freebies, let me know - I have run out. Maybe we could start a thread for free downloads?

I've just finished Everything and Nothing by Araminta Hall. I saw it reviewed in the Sunday Times a couple of weeks ago and I've just read it in two days. She completely gets under the skin of what it's like to be a modern parent. I've got three kids and I work and I've had childcare issues and it's amazing how close to my life the book felt. (Not totally, I have to say, as some pretty fantastical things do happen). But the way the married couple relate to each other was scarily close to the truth!
I'd really recommend it to anyone juggling relationships, children, work and, basically, life.

Enjoyed Little Green Man (although the end was a bit of of a let down) now having a giggle flicking through Potty, Fartwell and Knob.

Childish I know but amusing none the less Grin

Im reading even the dogs by jon mcgregor. it is the most depressing book I have ever read. Brilliantly writen but the subject matter is very difficult and very very depressing. I can't forget about it, it is in my mind all the time, and not because it is a good story but because it is disturbing.

Tankatankaskunk I have read The Lacuna and loved it! good story and very interesting.

spingspong · 15/02/2011 20:08

Finished The Hand that First Held Mine by Maggie O'Farrell in the early hours - kept me up but so wanted to know the outcome.

I love all her books, the stories and characters stay with you after you've finished.

Haribojoe · 15/02/2011 20:26

Have finished giggling at childish names and started When will there be good news by Kate Atkinson.

Grabbed me from the beginning but did find the first few pages disturbing.

ThistleWhistle · 15/02/2011 20:32

I am reading Room by Emma Donoghue, The Help by Kathryn Stockett and The Bolyen Inheritance by Philippa Gregory.

Although I have lost Room in my shit tip of a bedroom. Someone has moved it/tidied it away and it was just getting good.

Blackduck · 15/02/2011 20:37

When will there be good news' is fab - some great descriptions in there...
Just finsihed Jar City (Icelandic crime novel - on my Nordic kick at the moment)
and have on the go 'The Windup Girl' - SciFi, 'After the Flood' (Atwood), The Forty Rules of Love (which I REALLY must finish) and mexican Food made Simple (do cookery books count? I drive dp mad by reading out the titles in bed!)

Hi, hope you don't mind me joining the thread??

Has anyone read Eat, Pray, Love? I read it over Christmas and absolutely loved it. So beautifully written and really amusing. (Although I'm at a bit of a 'want to run away for a year' stage in my life so that may have coloured my opinion! Grin

Have moved onto her second book 'Commited' and it's just as good, a great take on marriage and it's history (while still interesting). I've actually recommended it to a few newly wed friends, as well as some newly divorced friends, as it's such an honest and grounded take on marriage.

Anyway, apologies for my train of thought, I have no one to discuss these with in rl at the mo so thought I'd share here!!

Haribojoe · 27/02/2011 11:53

Eat, Pray, Love is on my shelf but haven't got to it yet.

Finished When Will There Be Good News, really enjoyed it, a proper page turner.

Have been on hols and despite 3DC managed to polish of Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother (would love to hear what anyone else thought of this).

And am now reading The Family by Martina Cole.

Haven't started The Slap for MN book club so need to get my skates on!

I'm trying to read, "One Of our Thursdays is missing" but not, I must admit, getting on with it very well...

RO45 · 19/03/2011 12:27

Just started the case of the missing boyfriend by nick alexander. Chic lit by a man! Really good so far.

RO45 · 21/03/2011 12:11

Wow! Thanks so much for suggesting The Case Of The Missing Boyfriend Jo. It wasn't actually free, but well worth £1.50. Perfect weekend spent in front of the fire with CC and her crazy friends. So rare to find someone you really care about in fiction. I quite miss her now :-( Hum, what next?

JoanneNotJo · 22/03/2011 19:57

Hey RO45. So glad you enjoyed it. I thought it was pretty great too. I could do with a really good read now... since the missing BF my choices haven't been so successful :-(

melliebobs · 14/05/2011 19:18
