I've recently joined Weight Watchers as I have three stones to lose. Last year's chat thread has gone a bit quiet so I thought I'd start a fresh one for 2019!

Anyone else out there making a fresh start? Smile

Another 1.5lb off.
21lb in total in 12/13 weeks.
7lb to go till in the healthy BMI range. God I wish I was a few inch taller

RolandOnTheRopes · 01/08/2019 20:30

3lb loss for me this week, very happy.
Well done everyone.
If you have the WW app, we just had 'Caribbean-style salmon bowl' from the recipe section for dinner. It was delicious we'll be having that again.

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/08/2019 00:18

Can I ask you some questions?
Do you all follow Freestyle?
Do you eat many Zero Point foods?
Do you use your Weeklies and your Rollovers?

Thanks Smile

Hi Penelope
I am following Freestyle, online only so I just use the app. I've been doing it for nearly a month, and generally I do use the Weeklies. Sometimes my day can be a bit high (if eating out for example) so that uses up some of them. Last week I had some Pringles on my night shift so that used loads. I just got some Rollovers as I was below yesterday, I imagine I will use them.
I generally eat about 7ish points for breakfast (corn flakes or overnight oats). Then lunch is usually a Warburtons sandwich thin with eggs/turkey and salad (I bulk out lunch with zero points food). Afternoon snack using zero points fruit and 0%fat yoghurt. Dinner is then higher points, 10ish something like that. I might use some Weeklies on a couple of biscuits. On the whole it's definitely made me eat less chocolate/crisps as I'd prefer to use points on real food rather than rubbish. But if I really want a treat, I don't need to deprive myself.

@PenelopeFlintstone yup I follow freestyle. I base most of my meals around zero or v low point foods, then my points go for things to make it delicious like oil, sauces, cheese or a portion of carbs. I use the app a lot and have done a lot of the recipes off there. As for weeklies I use some but rarely all of them. I don't feel like I need to and save them for treats. But I'm also racking up a good 200 activity points a week so don't feel guilty if I do use them all.

Thanks Roland and ThisMeansNothing

I'm due to go today but I'm skipping because I haven't been good at all. The kids went back to school and I keep eating their school snacks. I'm definitely not going and definitely am going next week.

Wilma55 · 06/08/2019 07:25

You could go and check in but not get weighed. It's best to keep up the routine and stay to the meeting.

PenelopeFlintstone · 06/08/2019 08:27

Yeah, Wilma55, I've seen that you can do that these days. You couldn't do that years ago.

PenelopeFlintstone · 06/08/2019 08:48

Oh! You're Wilma and I'm a Flintstone!! Grin

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 06/08/2019 22:33

Who mentioned the orange and chickpea cake? I'd love the recipe please!

Realmumstuff · 09/08/2019 13:19

Hiya, I've just gone back on weight watchers. I'm doing it via the app. I've got about 2 stone to lose (it all goes to my tummy so I look 8 months pregnant!). I did the old smart points 4 or 5 years ago, I do find controlling and logging what I eat better for me.

The thing is whilst I'm happy that things like chicken breast and salmon are 0 points there are things on there that used to be far less points....I like to save my points for a tipple of vodka with Diet Coke or a glass of Prosecco which used to be 2 points but are now double points?? Why have a lots of things changed their points? I thought roughly it used to be 40 calories per ww point.

There are so many recipes now in the app, can anyone recommend any particularly tasty recipes I could try? Fridge full of fish and chicken 😀

Thank you!

Here's hoping for weight loss this week, got a friends birthday bbq tomorrow so got to try and be good. Grin

Hello, I've just signed up to the ww digital programme. I had my DD 11 months ago and weigh more than I did 2 weeks after she was born. I need to lose 2.5 stone really. I've never done WW before and am not really keen on all the counting but until I find some self-control I think it's probably best that I follow some sort of plan.

I just had a look at the app and wondered how you are meant to establish how much of something amounts to a 'serving'? Does it say it anywhere?

thismeansnothing · 10/08/2019 21:16

@Realmumstuff app recipes I've tried and that have been a family success (as in DH and DD have eaten with no face pulling) include :-

Blackened chicken traybake
Curried chicken and sweet potato traybake
Chicken broccoli and chorizo traybake
Harissa sausage traybake
Cod tagine
Sticky peanut butter chicken
Orange and ginger chicken with broccoli rice
Teriyaki chicken
Seared steak with mustard green bean and potato salad
Mustard chicken with green beans and sweetcorn
Chicken and lentil curry
Paprika chicken with lentils
Harissa burgers
Mozerella chicken with tagliatelle

becky1506 · 11/08/2019 20:00

Hi I have just signed up for the digital program too. I have put on a lot of weight over this year I think due to stress and being unwell for a month but I am ashamed of how I look which is not doing my mental health any good,
Any tips would be great but one question how do you measure a serving of pasta? Is it all in cup sizes and do you measure it dried?

thismeansnothing · 11/08/2019 21:45

@becky1506 on the app search 'white pasta, cooked'. Then click on servings and I switch to grams and weigh it out as I put it on my plate so 37g is 1 SP . How much you choose to have is up to you, your allowance and how you've planned your day. (I tend to have enough to take me to 4SP) First couple of times I did pasta / rice cos I'm weighing the cooked weight there was a bit of waste which the dog got then I got used to how much I needed to be doing for me.

I8toys · 12/08/2019 13:51

Just joined online. Due to holidays etc I am gradually gaining. I only want to lose 7 lbs or so but just need to get back on track re disciplining myself. I am getting used to the new smart points system as I've used pro points before.

thismeansnothing · 18/08/2019 13:55

Hi @l8toys

The holidays are hard work. Even with the simple things. No school run means I'm down 16 miles of walking a week. Routine is all over the show and with all the best will in the world there'll be a coffee n cake date with DD at some point. Roll on September.

thismeansnothing · 20/08/2019 15:23

Lost 3lb at weigh in (did gain 2 last week though).

22lb down now 😀

Kelly19587 · 22/08/2019 19:21

Hi there joined 2 weeks ago 4 pound loss so far.... did slimming world couple years back which did work but fancied a change .. got 3 stone of baby weight to lose so far so good

Gigis · 23/08/2019 20:42

Hi, wondered if anyone could clear something up for me. Hard boiled eggs are 0 points, right? But yesterday I bought a sainsburys egg and spinach pot - 2 smallish hatdboiled eggs (whole) and a handful of undressed spinach leaves. When I went to put it in, smugly thinking I'd scored the best 0 point snack ever, it said it was 3 points? This was with me inputting all the details myself too. Why would this be?

bingandflop · 23/08/2019 21:33

Hi Gigis

This will be because the calculator is basing its workings purely on the nutritional information and doesn't know that you are putting in 0 pt foods, ie WW know that boiled eggs and spinach are 0pts but the calculator will just take the calories fat etc...

I hope that made sense as I feel I have explained that really badly! 😂

Gigis · 23/08/2019 22:10

Ah thank you, that does make sense!
So should I not bother inputting 0 point food then because it will come up with points values? How will I know what is points and what's zero in that case?

thismeansnothing · 24/08/2019 13:03

@Gigis if it's anything 'processed' it'll have points. If it's a free food that has had anything added to it it'll have points. So it's worth getting really familiar with your 0 point foods so you can see at a glance if it needs scanning to get a points value.

Gigis · 24/08/2019 13:54

Ok, that seems like a sensible rule to follow, thanks.
One more question then - a fruit salad pot from the shop (you know the type with apple slices and grapes or strawberry and mango), is that 0 points, or should I be inputting that too? I can't see how a fruit pot could be considered processed in the same way a boiled egg might have been.
Sorry for all the questions, I really want to get this right after a year of yo-yo dieting
