I'm so desperate to lose weight . I 'only' want to lose 2 stone , heck 1 would do but despite my best efforts it won't budge .. I joined ww last week and I'm feeling really hopeful . I'm actually a good member from 12 years ago after my dd but it's changed a lot since then . I love the app and am sticking to it .. please give me some hope . 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I have just started again - I really need to stick with it but ruin myself with the weekend

imjessie · 19/05/2017 12:30

Thespian .. I think it's a slow burn on ww .. not massive losses like slimming world but more sustainable! Keep going !

vickibee - how are you doing it without officially joining? From memory or are there recipebooks etc?

ThespianTendencies · 19/05/2017 12:46

Thanks imjessie - also I don't have loads to lose so do you think that makes a difference? It seems like people are losing pounds and pounds in a short time though - maybe it is a metabolism thing...?

sez49 · 19/05/2017 13:41

Thespian. 0.5lb -2lbs a week is a healthy loss. I sometimes lose more, sometimes stay the same and sometimes gain! I have been on plan, since July and know I have been doing everything right. So far I have lost 7.5st, but had a gain this week. :( The scales don't always move as quickly as we would like, or even move in the right direction, but it does work and for me, this way of eating is becoming a lifestyle change, so once I finally get to where I want to be, I will hopefully be able to maintain it. I do not ever want to see those 7+stone ever again!

Everyone loses at different rates and has a different metabolism. As long as you are losing, And following the plan, be it tracking or no count (or a mix), I wouldn't worry too much. I would also suspect that you may find the losses are slower as you don't have too much to lose. I still have another 5st to go, but feel so much better than I have done for so many years!

ThespianTendencies · 19/05/2017 14:09

sez your weightless is incredible! Well done for sticking with it and not losing focus! i am in awe....Shock. I am drinking gallons of water too. (I think if i stopped the wine I would lose quicker) but on the whole, I am pleased that the scales are moving down and not up! Keep going with your remaining 5st - I think you're amazing. Also, that loss for me is not an entire week as I started on Sunday so maybe I should not knock myself out and weigh again Monday morning....

imjessie · 19/05/2017 16:09

Ethan .. can you use your weeklies at the weekend ? Are they enough? I agree weekends are the hardest bit ! .. especially if you are out with friends .

OP posts:
vickibee · 19/05/2017 18:21

I base it on filling and healthy but with sensible portion sizes. I am not religiously counting points. Lots of fruit and veg, eat as close to nature as possible, no processed food. Today porridge made with water and berries, lunch crackers and hummus plus grapes , tea was a green salad wit makererl. That is it for today so I will be hungry by bedtime.

sez49 · 19/05/2017 18:28

Thanks Thespian. It has taken me 25 years to finally get my act together but I think I have learnt by many failed attempts over the years what works for me and what I need to change and what I need to accept. Yes, just weigh once a week. if you want the wine and allow for it within your daily or weekly points then have it and build it in. No points sacrificing stuff that you will want to at some point in the future. i think it is much better to lose slowly but in a weigh that can be managed longer term, rather than quickly and then it all goes back on again when we start eating 'normally' again.

Ethan, I agree with imjessie. Can you not save your weeklies for weekends if that is where you struggle more? my very first time of joining WW many years ago I gave up chocolate and chips and also didn't eat out during the six months I was losing. Once I had a chocolate craving for two weeks and gained 11lbs! I never got that close to goal again and the weight just crept up and up and up. I now realise that if I make changes, they need to be sustainable in the longer term if I am going to suceed this time, when I have failed miserably in the past. I know that eating out is a part of my social life now and I need to be ale to manage these occasions. I also love chips, so building them in as a regular treat, really helps. I do have the occasional, chocolate treat too, but found I need them less now than I did in the beginning. Apart from this, the rest of the time I eat pretty healthily. I don't drink much now, but again, allow for it at the times I want to have a little tipple.

My coach was saying to a member the other day, if she keeps intending to do overnight oats but doesn't and has toast with butter, why is she trying to oats if toast is really what she wants. And maybe look st what she can change with the toast and have something with lower points on the toast instead of butter. I have managed to lose weight on both of my last holidays. Usually I would gain at least 7lbs, if not more. I have been careful, and walked much more, but also planned for treats too, so I don't feel like I am being deprived or missing out. Also I am finding replacing some of the snacks I used to have with lower pointed Cake recipes I have found, is really helping me now.

vickibee · 19/05/2017 18:35

7.5 stone is incredible , so well done, I have set myself a two stone target but teaaly need to lose more. If I set an impossible target I would just give up. It is so bloody hard. How do slim people stay that way? They must watch everything they eat and deprive themselves which is something I find difficult

sez49 · 19/05/2017 19:00

vickibee - I am setting myself small goals along the way. I felt if I could see how far I could go and lose what I could then that would be better than nothing. Aiming for my next half stone, the next stone, or next stone bracket has been key. I would have given up before I started if I focused on the fact I had over 12st to lose! I have managed to keep going, stay on track and lose the most amount of weight ever this time around. I have done things differently too. Thrown all my big clothes out. I will not need them as I have no intention of going back to those bigger sizes. I have always kept them in the past, just in case, and maybe sub-consciously I was already setting myself up to fail and to put the weight straight back on.

Maybe they are able to listen to their bodies more too and eat until satisfied, rather than eat until stuffed like I have done most of my life! We obviously love our food/drink otherwise we wouldn't be needing to lose some weight, be it a large or small amount.

IM LOving WW so far! I love the app, it's so easy to stick to using the app, and I've found it a really easy plan to get back on if you haven't stuck to it for a few days (holidays etc!)

I only do it online but I think I've lost about 16lb in total, my clothes look better and I have had a few comments about my weight loss.

I've got another 1-2 stone to go depending how I look as I get smaller! I could lose 2.5 and still be healthy but I think I'd look too skinny then...

I just want to feel more confident in summer.

ThespianTendencies · 21/05/2017 20:22

Oh dear, bottle of Prosecco last night at a friend's..... and nibbles. 😩

imjessie · 21/05/2017 20:46

I agree with the fact you can get straight back on it if you lose the plot a bit and don't need to have special food in , although I do buy ww chocolate treats as even a small wispa is 11 points !!😱

OP posts:
imjessie · 21/05/2017 20:47

What do we do without points by the way ? Are they just there to encourage you to exercise ?

OP posts:
WithCheesePlease · 21/05/2017 20:52

Yes I lost 3 stone back in 2000 with ww. I've managed to keep most of it off, but sometimes go up and down by one pesky stone. Once that happens I take back out my old books and start again. Although recently I heard the points system is different. Not sure if it's just psychological, but I'm finding it much tougher to go by smart points, not sure why!

imjessie · 21/05/2017 21:32

My previous post is supposed to read 'fit' points

OP posts:
ThespianTendencies · 21/05/2017 22:17

Apparently you can use them as good points. Bit confusing.

sez49 · 21/05/2017 23:34

imjessie - they can just encourage you to do more exercise, or you can eat some of them. You can set the app, so the fitpoints can kick into play after your weeklies have all been used up. Also, when you earn fitpoints each day, not all of them are available for consumption. Depending on how much you weigh, etc, you will find the first 3-5 fitpoints you are are deducted from the fitpoints that are made available for eating. So if you earn 15 fitpoints on one day, you are likely to have 11 or 12 of those available to use, if you want/need to. You don't have to use them, it is a personal choice. May also depend on how you are finding the plan and whether or not you are losing.

I liked earning them as it encouraged me to do more exercise. It was also nice to know I had them there as a buffer in case I went one or two points over my weeklies. I had a bit of a plateau earlier in the year. I then had a bad week where I polished off my weeklies and then had a load of fitpoints. That week I had a great result, so have continued to use some of my fitpoints. I don't use all of them. Some people use a few of them, some use most or all of them and other don't touch them at all.

ThespianTendencies · 22/05/2017 07:17

Lost 3lbs in 8 days! That's despite my overindulgent Saturday night (mostly liquid calories there...) I genuinely think it is the logging of food and the accountability you give yourself for every morsel of food that enters your mouth that is the key. I now realise how much I was eating without even thinking about it.; half a biscuit, a corner of cheese, a couple of chocs from the students etc. Very happy this morning. Have a lovely Monday everyone Smile

sez49 · 22/05/2017 10:01

Fantastic Thespian. Definitely the logging and accountability helps.

paap1975 · 22/05/2017 10:07

Yes, I lost 20 kg (almost 3 stone). Good luck!

imjessie · 22/05/2017 10:43

I didn't use any of the weeklies the first week and lost 3 pounds . The second week some were taken away . I haven't really used them this week yet either because I'm scared to frankly . I so want this to work ! I exercise quite a lot and have about 60 in the bank in 3 days so I probably could eat a few and it will be ok but I don't know what to do for the best 😬😬😬

OP posts:
ThespianTendencies · 22/05/2017 10:54

imjessie - it sounds like you could afford a little treat having worked so hard. But I am the same, scared to use them! Well done on your 3lbs loss - same as me :-) Aren't we clever Grin

imjessie · 22/05/2017 16:50

I'm hoping for another 3 this week ( fear I may be disappointed though 😬) 🙏🏻🙏🏻
